See back of this instruction book for details. (UK and Ireland customers only) www.morphyrichards.co.uk Steam Mop & Cleaner Please read and keep these instructions Limescale • Naturally occurring minerals in tap water can result in a build-up of limescale inside all water heating appliances. This can affect performance and, with time, could result in blockages that could stop the product working. To prevent this possibility, we strongly recommend using distilled/de-ionised water in this steam cleaner. This is especially important in hard water areas. • Distilled/de-ionised water should be obtainable from most large supermarkets. • If distilled/de-ionised water is not used, then after approximately each ten uses, the boiler and steam outlet must be cleaned as described on page 7. Failure to do so may invalidate the warranty. Never use it on objects or surfaces which cannot resist this temperature, or on delicate materials such as dralon, plastic, natural fur etc. If in doubt, check carefully on a part of the material where minor marks will not matter. 1 Press the ON/OFF switch Ù and the red power ON light ˆ will illuminate. The boiler will start to heat but no steam will be emitted. 2 Press the STEAM switch ı, after about 30 seconds when the boiler is up to temperature, the water pump will start, the green steam ready light ˜ will illuminate and steam will be emitted. 3 The steam output B can be regulated using the variable steam setting control on the side of the handle B. FILLING THE WATER TANK In hard water areas, we strongly recommend using distilled or de-ionised water (available from larger supermarkets). This will prevent limescale build-up which with time will affect the performance of the cleaner. Problems caused by limescale are not covered by the guarantee. 1 2 3 Remove the tank filler cap by unscrewing it anti-clockwise and fit the funnel provided. With the cleaner held at around 45°, pour the water into the funnel. The maximum capacity is 0.8 litres of water which will give more than 30 minutes of steaming. Use less water if required. Do not overfill. When using on hard/wooden floors, we recommend setting to minimum steam to prevent the floors becoming too wet. • Remove the funnel and refit the cap. Press the black centre of the cap to ensure the air valve is free. This valve prevents water escaping but allows air into the tank. Test this valve by pressing the centre after every filling. After switching the cleaner to OFF, steam will continue to be emitted for a few seconds until the boiler is empty. WARNING: Switch OFF and unplug before changing nozzles. After use, nozzles will be very hot, allow to cool before handling. ASSEMBLY 1 To stop the steam, switch either switch to the OFF position Ù. For quick breaks, we suggest just switching OFF the STEAM switch ıs. CARPET CLEANING Depending on the task, decide on the nozzle and prepare the nozzle as shown in later sections (pages 4-6). To fit the nozzle to the main body, align the hole in the nozzle with the lock button „ on the main body. Press the lock button in and then push the nozzle fully on until the lock button clicks into place A. IMPORTANT: Carpets should be dry vacuumed thoroughly before using the steam cleaner. For freer movement of the steamer over larger carpeted areas, the carpet glide base attachment Ú can be used. A 1 Detach and remove the steam comb section Ò from the carpet glide attachment. 2 Fold the floor cloth (for carpets) È and place inside the carpet glide base Ú C. C USING THE PRODUCT WARNING: Before switching ON, make sure the nozzle is located in safe area and away from persons. Steam will be emitted after around 30 seconds. For details of other Morphy Richards products, please see our website: 3 VC70490MUK Rev1_Instruction Booklet 04/01/2011 11:54 Page 4 3 Secure the floor head ‰ inside the carpet glide base attachment Ú and connect the floor cloth (for carpets) È to the attachment by using the floor cloth grips  D. D When the floor cloth becomes very wet or too dirty, rinse out the moisture, use the reverse side or replace with a clean, dry cloth. Stubborn stains on hard floors To remove stubborn stains on hard surfaces, fold and attach the floor cloth (for carpets) È whilst leaving the brushes underneath the floor head ‰ visible G. G 4 When cleaning carpets and rugs, set the variable steam setting ¤ to “maximum”. Use slow forward and backward cleaning strokes over the desired area. Carpet pile rejuvenation To rejuvenate flattened carpet piles, remove the floor cloth (for carpets) È and connect the carpet glide base attachment Ú to the floor head with the steam comb attachment Ò in place E. E Move the brush sliders Ê so that the brushes appear underneath the floor head ‰. Move the brushes back and forth over the area. IMPORTANT: Do not use the brushes for routine carpet and hard floor cleaning as unnecessary scrubbing may cause damage. SANITISING BEDDING AND UPHOLSTERY HARD FLOOR CLEANING Reduce the steam flow to a lower setting by turning the variable steam setting ¤. Use both forward and backward strokes across the floor area. When cleaning parquet, laminate and wood floors, set the variable steam setting ¤ to “minimum”. Both sides of the floor cloth (for hard floors) Ë can be used. Choose the smoother side for easier movement and attach to the floorhead using the floor cloth grips  to secure it in place F. F To sanitise and remove dust mites and allergens from bedding and upholstery, fit the utility nozzle and pass the steam slowly and evenly over the surface, ensuring all areas are treated. Repeat the process. Leave the mattress to dry thoroughly before covering. ATTACHING ACCESSORIES IMPORTANT: Before connecting any of the accessories (excluding the floor head ‰), first connect the deflector nozzle Ì to the end of the steam outlet on the main body of the steam cleaner. Fit the required accessory over the deflector nozzle by aligning the hole in the side of the accessory with the lock button „ on the main body of the steam cleaner. Ensure that the lock button clicks firmly into place H. Use this nozzle at maximum steam flow. Point it directly at non-permanent stains on carpets or upholstery whilst holding a clean cloth near the stained area to capture any loosened dirt. For cleaning glass and mirror panels. Use the squeegee at a very low steam flow by adjusting the variable steam setting ¤. Use a cloth to wipe the blade and remove excess water during usage. NOTE: When the steam cleaner is used for cleaning in a horizontal or inclined position, shake the steam cleaner gently to ensure that the weighted tubing inside the tank is in the correct (immersed) position. This accessory is ideal for cleaning windows, patio doors, conservatory glass, tiles and shower screens. To clean windows, start at the top of the window, pressing the squeegee to the surface and drag downwards. Move the squeegee in straight passes from top to bottom. Wipe the rubber blade and the bottom edge of the window dry after each pass. STORAGE Wrap the cord around the two power cord holders › and ‚, folding the lower holder out from its location on the lower handle ·. For small window panels, remove the squeegee tool and spray the steam directly onto the surface. Use the squeegee separately to wipe away the moisture. Your steam cleaner comes with a hanger strap ⁄ to hang the product from during storage. WARNING: Do not use on very cold glass, as the sudden temperature change may crack the glass. Spot brush Ó For cleaning the grout between tiles or stubborn marks and stains on hard surfaces. Use at medium or high steam flow by adjusting the variable steam setting ¤. Apply gentle pressure. Too much force may damage the bristles. Two sets of spare bristles are supplied. To change, loosen the screw and pull out the bristle set. Utility nozzle Ï For cleaning tiled surfaces, cabinets and worktops in kitchens and bathrooms. Also use this attachment for cleaning upholstery, curtains, blinds, pillows and mattresses. Use on a low to medium steam flow by adjusting the variable steam setting ¤. Cover the utility nozzle Ë with the elasticated utility cloth Í I. I AFTER USE Follow the two maintenance steps below after every use. 1 Switch the cleaner off and unplug from the socket. Wait until the cleaner has cooled down completely. 2 Empty the water tank by unscrewing the cap and pouring out the water. Allow the inside of the water tank to dry out before replacing the filler cap. CARE AND MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT: Unless distilled or de-ionised water is used, then after approximately each ten uses, the steam outlet must be removed and cleaned along with the boiler. Rinsing the water tank Regularly rinse the water tank ‡ to release any limescale deposits that have collected on the bottom of the tank. Use clean cold water and fit the filler cap fi to allow vigorous rinsing. Naturally occurring minerals in tap water can result in a build-up of limescale inside all water heating appliances. This can affect performance and, with time, could result in blockages that could stop the product working. To prevent this possibility, we strongly recommend using distilled or de-ionised water in this steam cleaner. This is especially important in hard water areas. If steam flow appears reduced, the steam nozzle may be blocked. Insert the nozzle cleaning pin Ô into the centre of the steam nozzle. This will clear any blockages that may have formed M. After unblocking, remove the outlet and clean the chamber. If distilled or de-ionised water is not used, then after approximately each ten uses, the boiler and steam outlet must be cleaned as described on page 7. Failure to do so may invalidate the warranty. M Steam outlet cleaning 1 Unplug the cleaner from the electrical outlet and allow the steam cleaner to completely cool down. 2 Pull down the nozzle lock J1 and twist the steam outlet J2, releasing it from its locked position. Cleaning the cloths J The floor cloths Ë/È and the elasticated utility cloth Í can all be machine washed (60ºC max). For heavy soiling, soak the cloths in warm water and detergent or a mild stain remover. Allow to completely dry before storing. 2 3 Contact our hotline to purchase replacement cloths.
