sensor detector 8.5x11 5/30/07 7:21 AM Page 1 MOTION SENSOR INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FUNCTION AND OPERATION ADVANCED FEATURES OF YOUR LANTERN 1. Optional photocell function to enable the light to turn on at dusk and off at dawn automatically. 2. Manual overriding via wall switch to keep the light on 8 hours. 3. Detector rotates to achieve a wide angle of 150 degrees from 5’ up to 35’. 4. 6000 volt surge protector to prevent damage to the sensor from lightning storms. 5. Auto power outage reset function to allow the light to stay on after power interruptions. 6. Light will shut off only after motion ceases; never blinking as long as motion continues. 1. IMPORTANT: When power is first applied, the light will turn on immediately. Wait 30 seconds to allow the sensor to move into the predetermined test mode you set. 2. The sensitivity will be raised as the environmental temperature cools. You may desire to make adjustments for nightfall or seasonal changes. You should gently dust the lens with a soft cloth every few months to maintain the sensitivity of the sensor. 3. Sensitivity (see fig. 3). The sensitivity was set at the maximum of 40 feet. By turning the knob counter clockwise, the distance can be decreased to a minimum of 5 feet. 4. Shut-off delay time (see fig. 3). The shut-off delay time setting may be done in Test Mode or Motion Mode. You may set the desired time by dividing the turning angle equally from the minimum of 5 seconds to the maximum of 3 minutes. The light will stay on as long as the motion is continuously detected, and will only turn off when there is no further motion detected and the delay time has elapsed. 7. 5 second to 3 minute stepless adjustment. You may set shut-off delay time as desired. WHERE TO INSTALL YOUR LANTERN IMPORTANT: Be sure your lantern is mounted horizontally level on the wall. A shorter detection distance may result by any inclination of installation. 1. Ideally this lantern should be installed at least 6.5 feet above the ground. At this height, the lantern will provide detection up to 40’ at 20C (see fig. 1). 2. The sensor rotates across a detection range of 150 degrees, with a fixed angle of 100 degrees (see fig. 2). 3. The sensor will be more sensitive to motions across its detection path than motions towards it directly. Adjusting the sensor in the proper direction to suit your needs. MANUAL OVERRIDE MODE By switching the wall switch off for 2 seconds and then switching it on again, the light will stay on for 6 hours. To return to Motion Mode, turn the switch off and on again in the same manner. TROUBLE SHOOTING If the light does not work in Test Mode: 1. Make sure the slide switch is at the TEST position (during day time). 4. To reduce possible nuisances, do not mount the lantern near heat source such as air conditioners, vent or furnace exhaust, nor in a direction facing any reflecting object or other light source. 2. Adjust the sensitivity knob in a clockwise direction towards the maximum. If the does not come on at all: 1. Make sure the wall switch and circuit breaker are on. Fig. 2 Fig. 1 150’ 2. Make sure the wiring is correct. 3. Cover the sensor with your palm to verify the ambient light is not too high. 100’ If the light stays on continuously: 6.5’ 1. Make sure the light is not in Manual Override Mode. 2. Make sure there is no movement to be detected by the sensor. 8.0’ 40’ 5.0’ 3. Adjust the time knob counter-clockwise to reduce the delay shut-off time. If the light blinks: 1. Make sure the light is not mounted near a barbeque, air conditioner, or other heat source. 2. Adjust the sensitivity knob counter-clockwise to avoid the unnecessary triggering such as a passing car or reflecing object. Modes Test Switch Position Test Mode TEST Operating Illustration Function Description Fig. 3 TEST MODE: (Day and Night) Allows you to adjust the sensitivity of motion detector to a desired level at dusk or dawn. When motion stops, the light will turn off in about 5 seconds. SENSITIVITY DUSK to DAWN Motion Mode MOTION MODE: (Night Only) This is the normal operating mode of the fixture. The lantern will detect the ambient light level and allow the fixture to operate only at night. The light will turn on when motion is detected and will remain on as long as the motion continues. When motion stops, the light will remain on for the predetermined time you set (5-180 seconds) and then turn off automatically. MOTION MOTION TEST Dusk to Dawn Mode DUSK to DAWN DUSK TO DAWN MODE: To enable the light to turn on at dusk and off at dawn automatically. TIME
