Sartorius MP8 Series Balances and Scales Making Changes to the Balance Operating Program 1) The Program Locking Switch Before any changes can be made to the balance operating program you must first unlock the program locking switch. The location of the switch depends on the model. Check your Owners Manual for the location of the switch. On most models it is behind a black plastic cap. 2) Entering the Operating Program At this point you may enter the operating program of the scale. Please follow these instructions carefully as an incorrect code being entered may not give you the desired result. Start with the balance turned on. Press and hold the Tare key down. While holding the Tare key down, turn the balance OFF and then ON. Continue to hold the tare key down until ‘CH5’ appears in the display, then release the tare key. The display should now show the letter ‘C’ and a number to the right of it counting up. If it shows an ‘L’ with a counting number it is an indication that the program is locked. Go Back to the first step. 3) Select the Program Code You will now enter the code of your selected function. For Example: To change the digital filter setting to ‘extreme’, for ‘very unstable’ ambient conditions the code is ‘C 1 1 4’. When the number ‘1’ shows in the display press the tare key. This will freeze the first number in the display [C 1 ] and a second number will appear and start counting up. When the second number reaches ‘1’, [C 1 1 ], press the tare key and the third and final number will appear and start counting up. When the third number is on 4, [C 1 1 4], press the tare key. You will see an extra segment of the display turn on to the right of the third number. The third number will then turn off and the second number will be counting up.
4) Return to the Weighing Mode *NOTE: Never shut off the scale while in the programming mode! The program must be exited correctly to insure that the scale will function properly afterwards. When the second number is on ‘0’, [C 1 0 ], press the tare key. The second number will turn off and the first number will be counting up. When the first number is on ‘0’. [C 0 ], press the tare key. If the number starts changing before you press the tare, just wait till it comes around again. The scale will automatically reset and the new menu choice will be saved. * If you enter the operating program and do not wish to make any changes or accidentally enter an incorrect code, you must back out of the program mode. Press the tare when the currently cycling number reaches ‘0’, and continue to delete each number in this manner until the last number disappears and the scale resets itself to the weighing mode.

Sartorius MP8 Series Balances and Scales
Balance Operating Menu Definitions Ambient Conditions / Digital filtration The display is updated approximately every 100ms/ 200ms/ 400ms/ 800ms depending on the setting. Menu code ‘C 1 1 1’ is the fastest and ‘C 1 1 4’ is the slowest. It is possible to weigh even under extreme operating conditions. The fastest update rate is obtained with the balance on a vibration free support.
Stability Range The ‘Stability range’ is the tolerance by which the weight that will be accepted by the microprocessor as stable may vary. For example, the C 1 2 5 setting of + / - 4 digits signifies a total range of 8 digits. The setting is very important for the control of the Stability Indicator (the ‘g’ symbol) and for the menu parameters; Display format: codes 1 3 x, Tare mode: codes 1 4 x, the calibration function, as well as the conditions for the Data output: codes 2 1 x. Depending on the selected setting, the microprocessor waits with the control of the ‘g’ symbol, execution of the tare command and , if necessary, the output of data via the interface.
Display format The display of the last digit (e.g. 102.345) is controlled by the setting of the display format C 1 3 x.
Tare parameter A tare command originating from either the tare key on the balance, an external tare key or from a peripheral device is immediately executed for setting C 1 4 1(without stability) and, for setting C 1 4 2, executed after the microprocessor has recognized stability according to the range setting C 1 2 x.
Auto zero Whenever the balance is tared and displays a zero, a small drift in the display of less than 0.5* digit per second is automatically tared and will not be displayed. This is done irrespective of a weight on the pan. *The value depends on the resolution of the display. See the Installation and Operating Manual for the specifications.
External calibration Calibration of the balance by putting a weight on the pan can be blocked*. The command is given by the ‘CAL’ key or by a peripheral device.
Internal calibration The operation of a built-in calibration weight switching mechanism can be blocked with this function*. The command is given by the ‘CAL’ key or by a peripheral device.
Polyrange balance The setting can be changed, however it does not cause any change of function.
Program lock ** Only with setting 4 1 2 will the slide switch ‘program lock’ be in operation and protect the settings against an error by the operator. Beeper ‘Acoustic signal’ the built-in beeper can be switched off to cancel the acoustic acknowledgment when commands are received from peripheral devices.
Auto off Permits the automatic switch-off of battery powered balances after 2 or 4 minutes of non-use. Calibration weight switching mechanism Depending on the setting, the built-in weight is lowered by motor and the weight displayed or a calibration is done.
* only with the ‘Menu Access Switch’ in the ‘locked’ position. ** The function is accessed on older MP8.0 and Ultramicro balances by connecting pin #s 7 and 19 of the Data output connector.
