Creating a New Configuration
3.1
Creating a Virtual Drive The following table and figures describe the virtual drive configuration differences in the MR and IR controller.
Table 5 Create Virtual Drive – MR Controller Versus IR Controller MR Controller
IR Controller
Simple Configuration You can use the free capacity of an existing drive group or unconfigured drives for creating a configuration. MR controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 6. Drive type mixing is allowed. You can assign an unconfigured drive as a hot spare during volume creation. Drive security (Avago SafeStore™ Data Security Service) is supported. If High Availability DAS is supported on the controller and you are creating a virtual drive using simple configuration, by default, the virtual drive is shared with the other servers in that cluster. See Figure 9.
Simple Configuration
Advance Configuration You can create Spanned drive groups. MR controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60. Drive security (Avago SafeStore™ Data Security Service) is supported. You can set the following virtual drive settings: — Virtual drive name — Initialization state — Strip Size — Read policy — Write policy — I/O policy — Access policy — Disk Cache policy
Advance Configuration
NOTE The system creates the best configuration possible using the available drives. NOTE IR controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 10, and 1E. NOTE Drive type mixing is not allowed. NOTE Drive security ((Avago SafeStore™ Data Security Service)) is not supported. NOTE High Availability DAS is not supported. See Figure 10.
NOTE You cannot create Spanned drive groups. NOTE IR controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 10, and 1E. NOTE Drive security ((Avago SafeStore™ Data Security Service)) is not supported. NOTE All of the parameters except the virtual drive name in the virtual drive settings window are disabled. After you create the virtual drive, you can only change the Disk cache policy. NOTE High Availability DAS is not supported. NOTE SSD Caching feature is not available. See Figure 12 and Figure 14.
NOTE After you create the virtual drive, you cannot change Initialization state and Stripe size settings. If the controller supports High Availability DAS, the Provide Shared Access option enables you to share the virtual drive to between the two servers in a cluster. You can enable or disable SSD Caching on the new virtual drive. See Figure 11 and Figure 13.
