Upgrade Instructions Product Code(s): KV0004A Product Name(s): ServSwitch Freedom & Glide & Switch Date Modified: August 8th, 2012
Multi-Head Firmware, Software and Driver Installation Guide The firmware, software and drivers listed below are still in BETA mode. This means that the following files may contain known and unknown bugs. Please notify Black Box Technical Support of any identified bugs so we can fully document and fix them.
Operating System Support: Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7
Known Issues: - Wireless mice have been found to not be supported by the Glide and Switch system - Unique specific devices other than USB Input Device & HID-compliant mouse have been found to not be supported as the Target Computer operating system loads a different driver higher in the driver hierarchy instead of the Multi-Monitor drivers.

Layout: The setup below shows (4) computers that have (2) monitors attached to them. Each computer is referenced as the Target Computer. The Client PC / Laptop will have the Glide and Switch software installed which will allow the user to send the layout to the ServSwitch Freedom via the RS232 Upgrade Cable (DB9 to RJ45).
Installation Instructions: Download all files at: ftp://ftp.blackbox.com/connectivity/SERVSWITCH/ss_firmware/Freedom/firmware/1.61d_beta(multi-head)/KV0004A__freedom_firmware-multi-head__1.61d.zip
Step 1: Disconnect the power from the ServSwitch Freedom, then hold in both the COMPUTER and MODE buttons while powering up. This will put the switch into UPGRADE mode which can be confirmed by the letter U on the LED panel.

Step 5: Now click on the Browse button and locate the file KV0004A_161d.txt from the FIRMWARE folder. When selected, press the OPEN button to upload firmware to software.

Step 7: When firmware upgrade completes successfully, you will be notified by the message below. Press the OK button and close the KVM Firmware Uploader software.

6 You will need to perform the next step for each Target Computer that has multiple monitors connected to the video card. If you have 3 computers, you should perform the following steps 3 times for each Target Computer. This process will install the Mouse Filter and Multi-Monitor driver, along with the Glide and Switch 1.4 software on each system. The image below confirms a system is not currently supporting the ServSwitch Freedom Multi-Head drivers. The highlighted items below show a standard USB HID mouse installed and operating. This image was taken from one of the Target Computers before installing the Freedom Multi-Head drivers and software.
Step 8: Navigate to the DRIVERS folder and run Install-Multi-Monitor-Glide-And-Switch.exe.

8 Step 10: Connect the Target Computer up to the ServSwitch Freedom via the USB cable, and then plug in a USB keyboard and Mouse into the console of the switch. Confirm the drivers have loaded correctly on the target computer. You can confirm by opening up the Device Manager on the target computer and verifying the following devices exist in your setup. Under Human Interface Devices, you should now see a Multi-Monitor USB Mouse HID, and under Mice and other pointing devices you should now see Multi-Monitor USB Mouse Filter. If you do not see these drivers, the mouse may not have been detected. You may need to confirm the switch is on and all cables are plugged in accordingly, and then try power cycling the target computer. If you are seeing a specific device instead of the drivers below, please check Step 12 below.
Step 11: Repeat steps 8 through 10 on each Target Computer

9 Step 12: Some USB mice in the market may force the operating system to load a default driver instead of the MultiMonitor drivers above. An example of this is if a user plugs in a Microsoft Mouse into the ServSwitch Freedom and sees something like the image below. If your USB mouse declares itself as anything other than a USB Input Device & HID-compliant mouse, then the mouse is not compatible with the ServSwitch Freedom. You will need to find another USB mouse that identifies itself as a generic pointing device rather than a specific device.
