How Does It Work? The CampusTours MultiMedia Engine generates presentations entirely in Macromedia Flash™. Presentation data is stored in XML files in a relational database-like structure, providing the advantages of relational access to data without the overhead of the database application. The MultiMedia Engine runs not on the organization’s server(s) but on a client workstation, and publishes a full version of the presentation to a test directory, allowing for staging prior to posting to production. Once satisfied that the new presentation is complete and correct, departments simply notify the Webmaster that a new version of the presentation directory structure is available, and it is copied onto the production server(s). No additional scripts or processes are required on the server. MultiMedia Engine presentations are constructed dynamically at runtime, ensuring that only the necessary files are delivered to the visitor, and allowing for integration with real time organizational data feeds. The MultiMedia Engine gives organizations the flexibility to incorporate any type of multimedia into a comprehensive presentation easily, without having to rely on programmers each time a change is required.
