ACTIVE VIDEO COMPONENTS MULTIMEDIA Active video components offer a wide range of possibilities: whether you want to transfer a video source to multiple output media via a video splitter or play multiple video sources with a video switch on one output device. Especially active video extenders become more and more important in times of HDMI 2.0 and their more rigorous length restrictions. 4K Resolutions are hardly realisable in lengths of more than 10 m with conventional cables. If the link pass 15 m, active video extenders are particularly suitable. They can bridge large distances with modern network cabling and are available in several variants for different interfaces.
HDBaseT™ Until recently, the cabling of the video network was predominantly guaranteed by means of pure video cabling. For solutions to extend the length limits of the current video cables, proprietary systems were used. Disadvantages of these systems, however, include possible losses in quality, due to a compression of the data or the incompatibility with 3rd party manufacturers. Added to this, that 4k resolution is gradually becoming more and more common in our everyday lives. With the result that higher demands are placed on bandwidth, which also brings this systems to its limits. The HDBaseT™ Alliance has introduced HDBaseT™ technology to the market in order to provide a connectivity standard to solve those problems and provides many other benefits. HDBaseT™ builds on a so-called 5Play ™ system, which combines the function of transmitting video, audio, Ethernet, control signals and power over one single network cable. In this process, one network cable of Category 5e or higher is used as the transfer medium, which can transmit the data and power to a distance of up to 100m.

This builds upon the 4PPoE (4 Pair PoE, IEEE802.bt) standard, which allows to transmit power up to 25W over one twisted pair. In conjunction with HDBaseT™, the technique is called PoH. Is the Type C connector a guarantor for the USB3.1 standard? In 2014, the new Type C connector was released simultaneously with the USB3.1 standard. A connection of the Type C connector and USB3.1 was therefore obvious, but not realistic. Although the Type C plug is a very versatile connector that can implement the high performance requirements of the USB3.1, it does not rule out the possibility that it can also be used for other applications.
As a result, different cable variants with the Type C connector exist on the market and the USB standard had to be adapted accordingly in order to counter the chaos.
The USB3.1 Standard has been divided into two generations: Cable packages for up to 5Gbit/s, which includes the older USB3.0 standard, can now also be named USB3.1 Generation1. Cable assemblies designed for 10Gbit/s are renamed to USB3.1 Generation2.
Further Type C cable variants Alternate mode cable Cable termination with a Type C plug that is used in an alternative operating mode. This allows to manufacture cables which support DisplayPort, HDMI or MHL. In the future, only the Type C socket would be needed in a notebook or smartphone for external video output. The output screen is connected e.g. with a Type C to HDMI alternate mode cable.
Thunderbolt 3 The well-known Thunderbolt 2 connector based on the Mini DisplayPort interface, which is particularly found in Apple devices. This will prospectively be replaced by a Thunderbolt 3 cable with Type C connector. These are cables that can simultaneously transmit video, data, USB and energy.
