RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN HORSE EVENTS: Please read and follow the rules as set out by the Oliver Agricultural Society. Failure to read and understand the rules is not an excuse for unacceptable behaviour. 1. Always think safety first. 2. Waivers releasing the OAS of all liabilities/responsibilities must be signed before anyone should be mounted on a horse at any time on the Fairgrounds. Parents or legal guardians must sign for youth. These waivers will be filled out in the office upon arrival at the event. 3. Competitors and/or horse owners must be members of the OAS to participate. 4. Youth 17 years of age or under must be accompanied by an adult while on the Fairgrounds. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for the safety of their children. 5. All competitors under the age of 19 are required to wear an ASTM/SEI or BSI approved helmet in good working condition. We strongly suggest that helmets be worn in all events by all competitors. 6. Only Western or English (with breakaway stirrups) saddles may be used. 7. Any horse crossing the finish line before completing the pattern will be disqualified with a broken pattern. 8. A five (5) second penalty will be added for each pole or barrel knocked over. A rider may not reach out to prevent a pole from falling. 9. Clothing must be conservative and consist of boots with a heel, long pants and long or short-sleeved western shirts or blouses. Tank tops or shirts without sleeves are NOT permitted. 10. Clean and well-fitted tack is mandatory. 11. No form of abuse to animals or people will be tolerated; this includes all officials, volunteers, competitors and horses. We want to foster a fun environment and would like all our competitors to have fun! 12. Any horse considered to be unwell, unhealthy or injured (as determined by officials of the event) may be excused at any time. The official’s word is final. 13. The same horse may be entered twice, provided there are two separate riders in different divisions. The same horse may not be ridden by two people in the same division. 14.
