Description
MXL-G is a PC based color graphics display package designed for use with the Cerberus Pyrotronics MXL system. It is used to monitor alarms, supervisories, troubles and security violations as detected by the MXL. MXL-G maintains details of all detection devices connected to the MXL control panel and holds screen image files to show, graphically, the location of the devices. Up to ten screen image files may be related to each detection point, there by offering multiple levels of ZOOM. These screen images are bit mapped representations, usually floor plans generated using CAD software. Screens may also be images from drawings or brochures of buildings and floor layouts, or even photographs captured using a color scanner, or other graphic capture devices. One or more screens may be complete text screens providing the operator or fire department with response instructions specific to a device or area. System software includes a TSR (terminate and stay resident) screen capture program that allows the use of a customer’s existing drawings regardless of their original CAD format. When an event occurs (alarm, supervisory, trouble or security), MXL-G displays the first screen image file for the active device. The operator then has the option of ZOOMING in for further details of the location of the device, or may
look at details of the location of the device, or may look at details of other devices currently active. A new alarm or supervisory will override any trouble or security events currently on the screen. If a TOUCH SCREEN is installed, it may be used for these functions. If a TOUCH SCREEN is not provided, function keys and/or the mouse may be used. When an alarm is received by the graphics system, the PC’s internal audible activates to alert the operator. This audible can be silenced by pressing any key on the PC keyboard. If an event has not been acknowledged, then the symbol for the device will flash. After acknowledgment, active devices are shown as solid colors according to the type of event. Active devices currently in alarm are shown in red, supervisories in magenta, troubles in yellow and securities in blue. Staus events such as active fans can also be displayed. The system can optionally display inactive devices in green. The device whose details are currently being viewed is encircled by a flashing ring. Up to two local printers can be connected to the MXL-G system. The primary printer is a wide carriage parallel printer (PAL-1) connected to LPT1. It is supervised and will print all events as they occur. It can also be used to print history log reports. If a color printer is used the device in alarm will print red. This printer can also be configured to

print a graphic screen, although the use of a separate graphics printer (connected to LPT2) is recommended. A graphic screen can be printed manually by pressing the print screen button on the keyboard or touch screen. The last zoom screen of the FIRST ALARM EVENT can be configured to print automatically on the designated graphics printer. This screen can be configured to contain important information such as best access route for the fire department. MXL-G provides four separate disk based history log files, one for each type of event. These files can be sorted, viewed, and printed according to event type, device type, date, screen, etc. The number of events logged is limited only by the size of the PC hard drive. When the disk is full, backup copies can be made and the log cleared. In addition to being used as a graphics annunciation system, MXL-G can also function as a fully interactive terminal allowing complete operator control of the MXL including acknowledging events, silencing audibles, resetting the control panel, disarming points, changing smoke detector sensitivity settings, and generating diagnostic reports such as sensitivity voltages. The unique “context sensitive” on-line help feature guides the operator by providing descriptions and examples of command usage as commands are being entered. Command descriptions and examples can also be called up alphabetically from a rolling list. This rolling list displays all the command’s information when the command is highlighted. The PC can switch from monitor to terminal mode with a single keystroke. In maintenance mode, devices can be armed and disarmed graphically via the touch screen or mouse. Password protection is provided to prevent unauthorized access to critical system functions. These passwords may be entered through the keyboard, touch screen or mouse. The graphics package may be configured to request the password or to enter the password automatically for repetitive operations. MXL-G is supplied with a microprocessor based interface adapter that plugs into the serial port (COM-1) of a standard IBM or IBM compatible PC. The adapter also connects to the MXL using the PIM-1 module. The distance limitations are provided with the PIM-1. The connection between the PIM-1 and MXL-G PC is supervised. The MXL-G interface module’s dimensions are: 61/8" L, 23/8" W and 9/16" D. This equipment’s approved operating temperature range is 0°C to 49°C.
