The hotline number is listed on the last page of these instructions. How navigation works Your TravelPilot EX-V uses GPS, a satellite-supported locating system, to determine the current position of the vehicle. GPS stands for Global Positioning System, a system which can be used to reliably determine your location anywhere in the world. A “gyroscope” and the electronic speedometer signal are also used to track the vehicle’s movements. The TravelPilot EX-V navigation system compares this data with the data stored in digital form on the navigation DVD-ROM and uses it to calculate the routes in route guidance. If the TravelPilot EX-V is connected to a TMC source (“TMC D-Namic tuner box” or appropriately equipped car radio), it will be able to take the current traffic situation into account when calculating the route. For more information on TMC, please refer to the section on “Dynamic Route Guidance with TMC”. Switching the unit on If the TravelPilot EX-V has been properly connected to the vehicle ignition and continuous plus, the TravelPilot EX-V will switch on automatically when you start your vehicle. The TravelPilot EX-V analyses incoming TMC traffic messages, adapts the planned route to the current traffic situation, and displays traffic reports symbolically on the map display. Plus Point: The TravelPilot EX-V always calculates the optimum route in terms of travelling time; i.e. if a detour around traffic congestion increases travelling time significantly, the TravelPilot EX-V would remain on the route passing through the traffic congestion under certain conditions. This depends on what kind of traffic congestion has been reported and how long it is and on how long the possible detour is. Dynamic route guidance is only possible when the TravelPilot EX-V is connected to a TMC receiver. TMC receivers include the “TMC D-Namic tuner box”, which was specially developed for the TravelPilot EX-V, and a number of Blaupunkt car radios. Please contact your authorized Blaupunkt dealer or ring the Blaupunkt telephone hotline (the hotline number is listed on the last page of this instruction manual) to find out which Blaupunkt car radios can be used in conjunction with the TravelPilot EX-V. Plus Point: If you do not have a “TMC-Tunerbox D-Namic” or a suitable Blaupunkt car radio, you can enter a detour manually to avoid traffic congestion. For further details, read the “Using the traffic congestion function” section in the “Route guidance” chapter. BA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil3 44 28.10.2005, 12:22 Uhr Dynamic route guidance with TMC Switching TMC on/off The TMC function is switched on or off in the Route options menu. For more information, refer to the section on “Selecting route options”. Selecting the TMC station with the TMC D-Namic tuner box The “TMC D-Namic tuner box” automatically searches the frequency band in the background for TMC stations within reception range. The TMC stations within reception range appear in a list which is updated continually. You can select a TMC station from this list. 1. Press ! on the remote control unit. The “Congestion” menu will appear. ✔ 2. Select “TMC station list”. Press OK . The TMC station list will appear. ✔ Note If there are no TMC stations available, you will hear a beep. 3. Select the TMC station. Press OK . The “Congestion” menu will appear. The TMC station currently selected will be displayed next to the menu item. ✔ Plus Point: The “TMC D-Namic tuner box” will automatically tune into the TMC station you have selected (preferred station). This means that after you leave the reception area served by your preferred station (the system will tune into a different TMC station) and return to this reception area again later, this is the station that will be selected even if other TMC stations are available. This intelligent switching function means that the station indication may change frequently in the reception area as well. This ensures that you always receive all of the traffic information which is transmitted by the TMC stations within reception range. 45 BA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil3 45 28.10.2005, 12:22 Uhr 46 Dynamic route guidance with TMC Selecting the TMC station with the car radio A TMC-enabled car radio is able to provide traffic information to the TravelPilot EX-V. 1. Note If, during route guidance, you tune into a station on the car radio which does not transmit TMC data or if you leave the reception area of the TMC station, dashes will appear in the display in place of the station name. In this case it will not be possible to receive traffic information. If you want to receive traffic information, it will be necessary to start TMC seek tuning for the TravelPilot EX-V again. BA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil3 46 28.10.2005, 12:22 Uhr Dynamic route guidance with TMC Calculating the route with TMC while route guidance is in progress The traffic messages are transmitted by TMC stations along with their regular programming. If a traffic message affects the route calculated, then a new route to the selected destination will be calculated automatically. You will hear the following voice output: “The route is being calculated taking traffic reports into account”. Note The TravelPilot EX-V always calculates a time-optimized route. This means that if the reported traffic problem were to involve too long a detour, the TravelPilot may decide not to calculate a diversion at all and instead lead you through the traffic. This behaviour depends on the length and type of traffic problem and the length of the possible detour. Displaying traffic messages Displaying on the map The received traffic messages are displayed on the map using different icons and a dashed line. If the traffic obstruction lies along the route calculated by the navigation system, the traffic congestion symbol is displayed with a red border. Care tips for DVD-ROMs If a DVD-ROM becomes dirty, never clean it using a circular motion but always from its centre to its outer edge using a soft lint-free cloth. If the DVD is very dirty, we recommend you wash the DVD using standard washing-up liquid. Again, when washing the DVD, never clean it using circular movements but always wipe it from its centre to its outer edge and leave it to dry. We also recommend that you handle both the under and upper sides of the DVD with care, since the structure of the DVD is such that the information layer is located directly beneath the printed layer (i.e. label side). BA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil3 74 28.10.2005, 12:22 Uhr Appendix Some comments regarding questions on reading quality: A dirty or damaged DVD can lead to difficulties when reading the DVD. The severity of the reading error depends on the amount of dirt present and the severity of the physical damage. Severe scratches cause “read errors (data errors)”, which lead to the DVD jumping or getting stuck during playback. All DVDs must be handled with care and always placed in a protective case when stored. 75 BA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil3 75 28.10.2005, 12:22 Uhr 76 Wide screen monitor settings The display brightness, the contrast, the brightness of the keypad illumination and the display on/off switch are all controlled at the front of the monitor. The TMC data are sent to the navigation system. The navigation system analyses the information itself and takes the traffic flow, traffic congestion length and legal speed limit into account when working out a new time-optimised route. The gyro (gyroscope) is integrated in the navigation system. It is used for determining changes in direction when taking turnings or driving along bends. GALA The automatic volume adjustment feature adjust the volume to suit the speed at which you are travelling. As your speed increases, so too does the level of noise inside the vehicle. The navigation system therefore adjusts the volume of the voice output automatically. You can set sensitivity of this adjustment feature. Positioning To ensure that the navigation system provides the driving recommendations at the right time, the position of the vehicle on the road network must be determined very precisely. Sensors detect the route being travelled along, the direction of travel and changes in direction. The position of the vehicle is tracked by way of a GPS satellite receiver. The information from these sensors is constantly compared to the course that the road takes according to the digital map on the DVD-ROM. 12:22 Uhr Installation instructions Safety precautions Congratulations on your purchase of this Blaupunkt product. Thank you for the trust you are putting into our brand! The following installation instructions are intended to help you getting the best performance from your Blaupunkt product. To avoid the aggravation of costly mistakes and serious damage to your system, please read all of the instructions carefully before you begin. If you’re not confident that you can install the unit correctly, have it installed by a qualified Blaupunkt installation technician. Installation and connection regulations While connecting and installing this equipment, make sure to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Important! Observe all safety precautions provided by the automobile manufacturer (alarm systems, immobilisers, airbag)! Before drilling the holes for mounting and wiring, make sure that no existing wiring or vehicle parts will be damaged (e.g. petrol tank, petrol lines). Use wire bushings for all sharp-edged holes. To avoid interference, make sure to lay the wiring far enough away from the wire harness. Attach a fuse to the positive supply wire at a maximum of 30 cm from the battery to protect the battery and the positive supply wire in the event of a short circuit. The navigation equipment is suitable for vehicles with: • 12 V battery power • Negative pole on the vehicle body 83 EA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil4 83 28.10.2005, 12:24 Uhr 84 Installation Description Installation preparations The TravelPilot EX-V navigation system is an independent system with an integrated gyroscope. After a destination has been entered and activated, the system delivers visual driving recommendations as pictograms on a colour monitor and spoken driving information via a separate speaker well in advance of any turns or changes in driving direction required. In this way, the system guides the motorist from his/her starting point on the best route to the selected destination. All of the available functions are described in the specifications of the DVD-ROM used. Before starting the installation, check to see that no parts from the installation pack are missing. ............ page 90 The following steps must be completed to install the equipment: • • • • • • Installing the navigation unit (computer) ............ page 85 Installing the GPS antenna ................................... page 85 Installing the display (monitor) ............................ page 86 Installing the operating unit ................................. page 86 Installing the speedometer signal wire ............... page 86 Installing the back-up lights signal wire ............. page 87 Notes on how the system functions The TravelPilot is equipped with an automatic calibration feature which is required to determine the current vehicle position. Depending on the GPS reception available, the calibration is completed after the vehicle has been driven approx. 15 km. Driving along a winding route (in the city), which is indicated on the monitor on a map, accelerates the calibration. The speedometer signal connection in the vehicle allows the system to determine the distance driven. If there is no speedometer signal, it will be necessary to have a route sensor installed by an authorised customer service centre. In this case, you will have to order a sensor kit (route sensor, magnet strips, bracket, plug and installation instructions) from your dealer. Order No.: 7 607 611 093 EA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil4 84 28.10.2005, 12:24 Uhr Installation Installing the navigation unit Where to install the navigation unit The TravelPilot EX-V can be installed in the car radio compartment in the vehicle (installation depth 218 mm). You will need an installation bracket (order no. 8 601 310 555) (see Fig. 1 page 93). For vehicles without a DIN compartment, a universal equipment housing has been included (see Fig. 1.1 page 93). Check to see which method of installation is required for the vehicle and, if necessary, use a vehicle-specific installation kit. When selecting an installation location, you must remember that the navigation unit has to be built into the vehicle body. Installation position: right / left slope to the rear min. -5° / max. +5° 0° / max. +30° To allow for sufficient air circulation, make sure that the air vents are not blocked. Use only the hole strips to attach the unit to the mounting bolt. Make sure that there is enough room to insert and remove the navigation DVD. Positive connection Connect the navigation unit to continuous plus and the positive connection to the ignition. Lay the continuous plus wire (red) to the battery (do not lay the wire directly along any wire harnesses). Connect a fuse holder to protect the positive wire at a maximum of 30 cm from the vehicle battery (if necessary, drill a hole in the splashback and use the necessary wire bushing). Connect the switching plus wire (black) to terminal 15 on the fuse holder (plus is switched by the ignition) behind the fuse. Negative connection Screw the negative wire (brown) directly to the vehicle body. Scratch the contact points on the ground down to the metal and grease it with graphite grease (important for a good ground). Installing the GPS antenna Install the antenna according to the enclosed instructions. If the GPS antenna is installed inside the vehicle, there is no guarantee that the system will function properly. 85 EA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil4 85 28.10.2005, 12:24 Uhr 86 Installation Installing the display Safety instructions The display support must never be greased or lubricated with oil. The monitor cable must be laid so that it is not subjected to any tensile strains or other loads. Important! Do not mount the monitor within the inflation range of the airbags (on the driver’s side, the passenger side or the side airbags) or where it might strike the head or knees of anyone in the vehicle in the event of an accident! Before drilling the holes for the mounting screws and wiring, make sure that no damage will be done to covered wiring, the petrol tank or fuel lines! Installing the display 1. Attach the display support to the display (Fig. 2, Page 93). Mount the display together with its support onto the dashboard or console (Fig. 3, Page 93). Connect the cables and run them towards the navigation unit. Uninstalling the display 1. Press the tab on the plug and carefully pull out the plug (do not pull on the cable) (Fig. 4, Page 93). 2. Push together the lugs on the display support and pull out the display in an upwards direction (Fig. 4, Page 93). EA_TP_EX-V_gb_Teil4 86 Installing the control unit Mount the control unit bracket in a location where the control unit will be easily accessible, e.g. on the centre console. Important! Do not mount the control unit within the inflation range of the airbags (on the driver’s side, the passenger side or the side airbags) or where it might strike the head or knees of anyone in the vehicle in the event of an accident! Before drilling the holes for the mounting screws, make sure that no damage will be done to covered wiring, the petrol tank or fuel lines! Make sure that the vehicle operating elements remain easily accessible and are not obstructed in any way (gear stick, hand brake, etc.)! Note: The “wide screen” monitor is equipped with an integrated infrared receiver. This means that the supplied receiver for the RC 09H does not necessarily have to be installed. Important installation information for the speedometer signal When connecting the speedometer signal, make sure to observe the following information: 1.
