GM650 is a wireless industrial module that supports open platform and GSM/GPRS+GPS. It provides users with reserved CPU resource and plenty of hardware interfaces, widely used in various industrial and civil applications. The module has high-fidelity voice, messaging, data connectivity, GPS positioning and other functions. If your MCU has only one UART interface but your product requires GPRS communications and GPS positioning functions, GM650 is a perfect choice. This document defines the features, indicators, and test standards of the GM650 module and provides reference for the hardware design of each interface. 2 Appearance Table 2-1 GM650 appearance specifications Specifications Description Dimensions 30.0 mm x 24.0 mm x 2.7 mm Weight 3.7 g Package 74-Pin LCC 3 Simplified Block Diagram GM650 consists of baseband controller, Flash, audio section, RF section, application interfaces, power manager, and GPS section, etc. All sections coordinate with each other to provide such communication functions as GPRS data and voice. The pins are in stamp-hole type (half hole). Figure 5-1 GM650 pins The maximum input voltage at all IO ports cannot exceed 3.3 V because the module uses a 2.8 V IO power system. The input voltage should be lower than 3.0 V so that the module can work properly. During the application, the IO output voltage from the 3.3 V power supply system of the external circuit might greatly overshoot 3.3 V due to the signal integrity design. In this situation, the IO pins of the module might be damaged if the IO signals are connected to the IO ports of the 2.8 V system. To rectify this issue, take measures to match the level. For details, see 6.2 UART. Table 5-1 GM650 pin definition Pin Signal I/O Function 1 GND PWR Ground Level Remark 0
