INSTALLATION To start an installation of the program, connect to the Internet and download the bootstrap using the link specified in your e-mail. The installation will start automatically. The installation program will download and run the Getting Started Wizard, which will guide you through the main features of the Backup Manager and help you provide initial settings for it. Follow the step-by-step instructions of the Wizard to complete the process.

Proxy Settings In the Proxy settings screen, choose the appropriate type of proxy server and enter your credentials. Then click Next to continue the installation. •
In this case, click the No button to return to the previous screen and make necessary corrections. To verify that the settings are correct, please click Yes to enter proxy settings.

On the Access control screen, enter your user name and password in the appropriate fields, and click Next

Security Code •
Enter your key in the Security code text field, re-enter the key in the Confirm field. Click Next to proceed.

Note: The security code requires special attention. The code can be any word or sentence of your own choice. Using this secret code, you can encrypt your files with a strong encryption algorithm, therefore keeping your private data secured and protected from an unauthorized access. The most important challenge is finding the best code, the one that you can remember, but that no one else knows or will guess.

If the device was used earlier and you have entered the right security code, you will get a warning message like the one shown below.

Schedule your backup •
You can either schedule your backups to run daily at a fixed time or you can select making a backup each time you shut down your system. If you wish, you can activate both options. Once you have done this, select Next button to proceed to the following step.

Files exclusion •
To limit the amount of data you want to back up, add File Exclusion Filters. When using this option, please specify which kind of files will be used for automatic filtering. If you select Audio files filter '.aac', '.aif', '.iff', '.m3u', '.mid', '.midi', '.mp3', '.mpa', '.ra', '.wav', '.wma' files will be excluded from backup by default. If you select Video files filter '.3g2', '.3gp', '.asf', '.asx', '.avi', '.flv', '.mov', '.mp4', '.mpg', '.wav', '.rm', '.swf', '.vob', '.wmv' files will be excluded from backup by default. If you select Backup files filter '.bkf' files will be excluded from backup by default. You can include any of them after installation will be completed in Settings tab.

Report via e-mail •
In the E-mail address field, enter the email address if you would like to receive daily reports summarizing all your backup activities. The reports will then be sent to the address you have given. You can fill in two or more emails, which have to be separated with a comma (for example:
[email protected],
[email protected]). Using the drop-down list, you can also select the frequency at which you want to receive dashboards. Once you have done this, click the Finish button to complete the installation process.

NOTE: You might face a situation when a Network Shares backup cannot be performed. The reason is that a backup process has started under a System User by default, but some network shares require Administrator privileges. You will need to change the log-on user for the Backup Service Controller service to an Administrator with the correct privleges. Here are the six steps to do that: 1. Run services.msc 2. Find the Backup Service Controller service, right click it and choose Properties 3. Click the Log On tab and change Log on as to an appropriate administrator account 4. Enter an account name and a password for administrator, click Apply and then OK 5. Restart the Backup Service Controller service 6. Open the Backup Manager, enter the Shared Folders tab, fill in the network shares credentials and check for availability Now network shares are available for a backup.

Network Shares BACKUP •
To start working with it go to the Shared Folders tab and set the network share credentials.
NOTE: Before starting to use network shares for a backup, you should add the whole path to the desired shared folder and appropriate access credentials: (the domain, the user and the password). This is needed because a backup process has started under System User by default that has no access to the other machines from the network. But the user should have full administrator rights to the destination they would like to back up, otherwise they will get an access denied message and no data will be backed up.

Now the Network shares plugin is available and has appeared on the Backup tab. You can make a necessary selection for the backup:

How to Backup MSSQL SUMMARY This article will tell you how to back up MS SQL. INFORMATION Backing up of MS SQL is an ability to back up a MS SQL database. Only instances which are translated by VSS can be backed up. Before attempting a SQL backup, you should migrate to the MS SQL VSS plugin. NOTE: •
MS SQL Writer is a default part of the MS SQL server and a backup of MS SQL cannot be performed without it. Thus, please, make sure that MS SQL Writer is running correctly.

We don't truncate logs in MS SQL, as the MS SQL VSS writer used for the backup does not support that

NOTE: If the database uses the Simple Recovery mode, its logs are truncated automatically by the MS SQL server when the database reaches a transaction checkpoint.

The unit of backup for VMware plugin is the contents of virtual machine's disk. It’s recommended to select the whole virtual machine in the corresponding Backup Manager's tab, not a single virtual disk.

There are two options for a VM restore: •
The first one is to restore to the original location. For this option to work, the original VM and its disks must exist in vCenter/ESX inventory:

Here is a typical example of a Restore to procedure: 1. Create a new empty VM with the same hardware configuration as the source's one (network, disks) 2. On the Restore tab, select one of the disks of the VM that was previously backed up 3. Select one disk of the newly created VM as a restore target. Pay attention to the fact that the target disk should be of the same size as the source's. 4. Click the Restore button to perform the restore 5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 for each disk of the VM that was backed up 6. Check the restored VM (power it on, boot the guest OS)
Hyper-V Backup and Restore Starting from version 13.0.0 of the Backup Manager, the backup of Hyper-V is supported.
