Identity Management and Access Control
Identity Management is about proving you are who you say you are. This is important in identifying users and giving them appropriate access to premises (Physical Access Control) and information (Logical Access Control). Borer’s FUSION system combines Smart Cards and Biometric technology to provide you with a secure and easy to administer physical access control and personnel identification management system.
Key Benefits include: • Complete control over the production and issue of Corporate Identity Cards enabling you to produce secure identity cards that you can trust. • Provides you with the means to capture, encrypt and store in the cards memory the cardholder’s details including biometric templates and digitised photograph. • Using computer networks and TCP/IP to connect all sites across cities and countries to a central database. • Reduces the cost of providing access control by using Network Cable and Power over Ethernet technology to reduce installation time, the amount of equipment deployed and energy consumed throughout the systems operational life.

Cardholder Enrolment with Contactless Smart Card and Biometric Integration From enrolment through to revocation, FUSION delivers a comprehensive set of management tools with an audit history of alterations to each person’s record. You have complete control over every aspect of the enrolment process from the capture of the new employee’s personal information including biometric templates, to the generation of the AES encryption keys used to protect data written to the smart card. The user also designs the layout and graphics to be printed on to the card. Users are not forced to source pre-encoded identity smart cards from the system supplier, as is normal practice, but instead are free to source blank smart cards on the open market thereby reducing costs.

Open Architecture Borer is committed to developing scalable systems using Open Standards and an Open Architecture design philosophy. FUSION users have the freedom to source smart card stock from independent suppliers and design, encode, print and issue their own identity cards.
Integration FUSION provides a single user interface and common database that supports a range of security and administrative functions including: Security Access Control and Visitor Management, Alarm Monitoring, Roll Call/Muster Reporting, Attendance Recording, Employee Enrolment and ID card production. FUSION can exchange data with other databases and applications including MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, LDAP, etc. FUSION supports SIP/VoIP for the transmission of voice and text messages and alarms over both mobile and landline telephone networks.
FUSION Smartcard Reader
FUSION is supplied with an API and script engine for integrating to third party systems.
Scalable Software Solutions and Virtual Systems FUSION is totally scalable in that it can grow from a small collection of a few doors connected to a single PC into a very large network covering thousands of doors across hundreds of locations connected to a central database using the LAN or WAN (Local or Wide Area Network). This scalable network based architecture makes it ideally suited for users who have a central station and want to manage remote locations from one or more control centres.
FUSION Keypad Reader
FUSION is also suited for Campus environments (Universities, Hospitals and Research Centres) who want to decentralise the management of the system, delegating day-to-day administration to building manager and department heads. With FUSION, Borer has pioneered the concept of virtual access control systems that allows local building managers to control their own sites while group management maintain control over the security policy and manage the security database. FUSION enables many sites and facilities to be combined into a single integrated system.

LAN Access Control and Alarm Management Large access control systems often have complex sets of access privileges that demand a lot of administrative effort to manage.
Attendance and Absence Recording FUSION Attendance Management supports a full set of attendance recording and reporting arrangements including flexible working, fixed and shift working and job sharing. FUSION records and reports on normal attendance, overtime worked, as well as absence and tardy attendance.
FUSION Setting up Access Control Credentials Borer has built tools into FUSION Software to reduce the levels of complexity and make the systems more manageable. These include providing four ways of allocating and managing cardholder access privileges:
FUSION Web for Attendance Management is an intranet based self-service option for staff working flexitime that allows members of staff to view and manage their own time accounts significantly reducing the administrative overheads.
• Access Groups for cardholders with the same access privileges. • Access Profiles which are a collection of access groups that enables the user to rapidly alter access permissions across multiple sites. • Temporary Access Groups that give time limited access ensuring that access privileges for visitors and contract staff are automatically cancelled at the end of the visit or contract. • Access Roles that give access privileges associated with the cardholder’s job function or role (e.g. only electricians have access to plant rooms). FUSION Time & Attendance (Reporting)
Visitor Pre-registration and Reception FUSION Visitor Management enables authorised staff to preregister visitors via a simple web application on the Intranet. This enables visitors to be vetted prior to the visit with improved security, faster through-put and a reduction in congestion at the visitor reception. Unexpected visitors can be booked in on arrival at reception. FUSION maintains a log of all visitor activity including frequent and return visits. FUSION Access Control Events Log
Muster Roll Call Muster roll call enables the user to maintain a log of whom is onsite and in the event of a site incident, produce a list of safe and missing personnel.

Power over Ethernet Technology delivers both Power and Data to the door over CAT5e/6 cable
Borer manufacture a comprehensive range of door control and networking equipment for physical access control, alarm monitoring and data collection applications. Borer’s FUSION access control solution provides online and offline access validation and decision making capabilities at the point of access. FUSION delivers a modern network based architecture using Power over Ethernet technology to reduce the size, cost and amount of equipment deployed. FUSION reduces installation costs because it has fewer components, eliminating the need to install control panels, wall boxes and mains power supplies at every door. The FUSION family of card readers and controllers include:
One & Two Door Lock Managers
• Borer’s Midspan Bridge supplies power and data directly to door control equipment down a single CAT5e/6 network cable. • Borer’s One and Two Door Lock Managers use Power over Ethernet technology enabling doors to be easily added to the access system without having to install specialist cable, mains power outlets and 12v power supplies at the door. Readers and Lock Managers can be configured with a local 12v power supply with battery backup if required. • Smart Card Readers that support open standards (ISO 14443A/B, 7816-4, 15693, MIFARE® and DESFire® EV1) with AES data encryption where a single card can be employed for a range of applications including banking, travel andvending. • Interfaces to third party card reader heads using legacy technologies (Wiegand, Clock & Data, Barcode, RS232, etc.) needed by users who want to update systems without swapping out ID cards and readers. Borer employs ‘Clean Design’ principles to produce products that use less energy with higher level of integration, reducing the amount and size of the equipment.

Less Equipment to Install With up to 80% less equipment to fit at the door, the install can be completed more quickly. Because there is no need for local power supplies, batteries and control panels, there is no need to find space in the ceiling void to fit enclosure boxes to house the extra equipment. All equipment can be installed at door handle height so that it is accessible for ease of installation and maintenance.

Save on Energy Costs Substantial energy cost savings can be made using Borer’s power management and energy delivery system. A typical door (illustrated opposite) using FUSION will draw between 1 and 4 Watts from the mains supply compared to 40 Watts or more using comparable alternative solutions. This equates to an annual saving of in excess of £40 per annum for every access controlled door.
Reduce Maintenance with Online Assistance FUSION provides the tools for online monitoring of almost every aspect of the door installation including the status of the door sensors, energy consumption at the door, condition of the data links and operating temperature of the equipment. This enables the system to be monitored online reducing the number of maintenance site visits. Site based equipment can be remotely programmed and reprogrammed, configured and power reset. This saves on system downtime and reduces maintenance visits together with their associated travel costs.
