Network Hardware Upgrade – Questions 1. Reference 4.1.2: Please provide, if possible, the specific model of Cisco phones in use. 7905, 7912, 7940 and 7960s are the most common phones. Approx. 130 phones. 2. Reference 4.2.4.1.4: Are there any specific technologies or protocols in mind when you propose a "distributed flow-based architecture"? No specific protocols are required. 3. Reference 4.2.2: Is this the total ports/switch or is it the total port count combined? Total ports per location. 4. Reference 4.2.4.1.5: Does this requirement constitute a preference for a non-stacked dualcore solution? Would realization of this requirement extend to a stacking solution that provided device-level fail safe and load sharing? No preference is considered regarding stacking solutions. It is simply a functional requirement for redundancy. 5. Reference 4.2.3.2: "Power supply sufficient to support all active POE+ ports (fully populated switch)." Is this sufficient power to enable PoE+ simultaneously on all ports, or sufficient power to support the maximum power output of PoE+ on each port simultaneously? The City wants to make sure that the power is sufficient to supply the maximum power output of PoE+ on each port simultaneously. 6. Is network management software as part of a full proposed solution within the scope of this project? Network management software is out of the scope of this RFP. 7. Are fiber runs single- mode or multi-mode, hence single-mode or multi-mode transceivers? Currently, City Hall is multimode and all other sites are single mode (Library, ACC, Youth Center, Corporation Yard and Laureola Park). 8. Reference 4.2.4.3.5 –Proof of concept, evaluation on site- What specifically are you looking to see provided for this POC/demo? City would like to see evidences that the proposed solution will work as specified and the transition will cause close to zero downtime per section 4.2.4.3.4. 9. Is there an option to have the proof of concept/demo off site? It is an option. 10. If POC is to be held on site, how long will you need to evaluate the equipment? TBD 11. Is a site visit possible? Site visits are not planned. 12. Can you please you provide further information on the type and setup of the firewall. Firewalls are out of the scope. 13. Please confirm the firewall is not in scope; if it is in scope, explain what is required. Firewalls are out of the scope. 14. What are the requirements for the DMZ, particularly if the firewall is not in scope? The DMZ will host City’s Web servers. 15. In the reference design, does the DMZ switch sit between the network firewall and the network core routers? Yes. 16. Which routers have the FXO telephony cards, and what type of FXO cards are they? How are they used by the Call Manager system? Routers are out of the scope of this RFP. 17. Are the FXO cards and the routers they are installed in considered out of scope if all other routing/switching function is transitioned to other devices? Routers and phone system are out of the scope of this RFP. 18. Are there any requirements related to the storage LAN not mentioned in the edge switch requirements (4.2.3.2) and port counts (4.2.2)? Section 4.2.3.2 list the minimum requirements of the edge switch. 19. Which protocols are in use within the network on the devices in scope? City network is considered a LAN, VLAN, Spanning trees are currently being used. 20. In order to provide a more complete plan on the transition methodology, could additional detail on the existing setup and configuration of the network be shared? Additional details required to generate a “zero downtime” plan could include the IP addressing scheme, the routing protocols in use, details of if and how spanning tree and variants are used, ACLs, security policies, and capabilities of out of band management systems (if any) as some examples. Additional information will be shared with the apparent winner of the RFP. 21. For the Proof of Concept, what exactly is envisioned and required as part of the RFP response? City would like to see evidences that the proposed solution will work as specified and the transition will cause close to zero downtime per section 4.2.4.3.4. 22. Please provide fiber type/distance for connections between closets/locations/rooms. This is necessary to properly select the fiber jumpers and transceivers to quote. Currently, City Hall is multimode and all other sites are single mode (Library, ACC, Youth Center, Corporation Yard and Laureola Park). 23. Is there room, and power in most/all locations such that devices may be installed in parallel, or is a rip and replace migration required? Most location should allow for devices to be installed in parallel. 24. Is there spare fiber between most/all locations such that new devices may be operated in parallel with the old network? Most of the locations have redundant fiber uplinks. Youth Center and Corporation Yard are not redundant. 25. Section 6.3 requires an itemized breakdown of installation costs. We anticipate that much of the services costs for installing and transitioning to the new network equipment will be up front during the configuration development, testing and planning phases, and is difficult to associate directly to specific items to be installed. May we provide installation pricing as a series of deliverables instead of associating it with specific pieces of equipment? City would like all proposals be in the same format for easy of comparison. 26. Does the City's upgrade path to 40Gb include the links to the Access layer switching? ( will the city require 40Gb uplink requirements at the Access layer switching for future upgrades?) The 40G will not include links to access layer switches. It is for servers and storage networks 27. Does the City require only the "Capability" to Stack switches, Or does the City wish the Vendors responses to include stacking modules and cables to provide a 'Stacked Solution'? City would like the vendor's response to include stacking modules and cables when there is a need per port count requirement. 28. Would an upgrade to the network management system be part of the response? Network Management system is out of scope of the RFP. 29. What type of fiber is utilized for the WAN connections to each location (multi-mode, single-mode, size)? Is that fiber dark (private) fiber or leased fiber? What is the transmission distance for each fiber run? Currently, City Hall is multimode and all other sites are single mode (Library, ACC, Youth Center, Corporation Yard and Laureola Park). The fibers are combination of city owned and leased fiber from Comcast (Inet). Fiber in City Hall is between 100-400 ft. from MDF to each IDF. Library is less than 900 Ft and ACC is less than 500 ft. Distances to other location are no known at this time. 30. What is the model number of the Cisco wireless controller that is currently installed? AIR-WLC4402-12-K9. Note: that Wireless system is out of scope of this RFP. 31. What is the model number of the Cisco wireless access points which are currently installed? Access points in use are AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9, AIR-AP1131AG-A-K9 and AIRLAP1252AG-A-K9. 32. Would you prefer a higher level of support for the network core, server room and DMZ switches? RFP asked specific questions regarding support. Vendors can propose other support options. 33. What Cisco routers need to be replaced, and what services does each router provide? Cisco Routers are part of the phone system, they are out of scope of this RFP. 34. Does the Cisco firewall need to be replaced? If so, what is the model number of the firewall and what services is it running? If not, what are the interface types connecting it to the network? The firewall is out of the scope of this RFP. 35. Your port count table in section 4.2.2 states that the “Server Room” switches require 16 1Gig ports and 32 10Gig ports. Are all of the 10Gig pots SFP+ or BASE-T (excluding the ports required for uplink to the core switches)? Uplink ports are SFP. All other ports will be Base-T. 36. There is a storage switch depicted in the network diagram in section 4.2. Is this switch to be included in the response to this RFP? If so, what are the specifications for the switch? Storage switch is out of the scope of this RFP. 37. Can we respond with the section number , _____Acknowledges and Complies without exception, and a response to each section? Or is the City expecting the entire RFP (33 pages) with a response under each section? Either method is acceptable but the City prefers a response under each section. 38. What type of physical connection is provided between the Network Core switches and other locations in Figure 2 (Library, Park, City Hall, etc)? a. If fiber-optic, is the fiber single-mode fiber or multi-mode fiber (what grade of multi-mode fiber)? Currently, City Hall is multimode and all other sites are single mode (Library, ACC, Youth Center, Corporation Yard and Laureola Park). b. What are the distances between the Network Core switches and other locations? City Hall fiber is between 100-400 ft. from MDF to each IDF. Library is less than 900 Ft and ACC is less than 500 ft. Distances to other location are no known at this time. c. What quantity of fibers (or copper) are provided between the Network Core and other locations? All, except for Youth Center and Corp Yard, have redundant pair uplinks to Core. 39. Are there any PoE requirements for devices in the Servers and Storage room? No need for POE. 40. Are there any PoE requirements for devices in the Core (Garage MDF) room? No need for POE. 41. Are 10G transceivers or cables to the Servers / Storage devices to be included in this RFP? TBD a. If so, what type of transceivers or cables are required (may be dependent on the host device)? Current servers do not have 10G interface. b. What type of 10G interface exists on the servers / storage devices and how far are they physically from the 10G switch(es)? Same as 4.a 42. Section 4.2.4.2 describes Edge Solutions with 4.2.4.2.1 specifying stackable switches. 4.2.4.2.6 then describes non-stacked switches for redundancy. Are LAGs across different members of stacked Edge switches acceptable? (Edge only, Core switches will not be stacked) Yes
