High-definition MPEG2 for monitoring of surveillance camera images at any location. With the new Panasonic WJ-GXE900 MPEG2 encoder and the WJ-GXD900 MPEG2 decoder, a high-quality video image monitoring system can be built by connecting camera surveillance points and the monitoring room. With conventional wide-area/large-size image surveillance systems, there exists the problem of increased deterioration of image quality the farther away the camera is located from the monitoring room. The Panasonic system compresses the camera image with a high-quality MPEG2 image encoder and transmits the data to IPs, while a decoder receives the data to be displayed on a monitor. This technology ensures that the image quality will not be affected by transmission distance, thus enabling image monitoring from anywhere with a high quality image equivalent to that of TV broadcasting. There are two types of image transmission systems the multicast system and the unicast system either of which
can be selected and configured according to the type of system or application software. Major Advantages
• High-definition MPEG2 • MPEG2 is an image compression technology used for DVD-video discs and digital satellite broadcasting. The technology ensures remote surveillance with high-quality video images.
• Low delay of approximately 150ms • The difficulties of camera switching and PTZ control have been significantly reduced.
• Camera control using a single coaxial cable • Camera functions, including panning, tilting, and zooming, can be controlled from the system controller by using CGI commands through a single coaxial cable.
• Camera title display • A title can be superimposed on the camera image with up to 16 alphanumerics.
• Multicast transmission • The transmission system reduces loads on the server, thus ensuring efficient utilization of the network.
Broadband communications transmit camera images in high-quality video Video images from a camera connected to the encoder are digitally compressed and transmitted. A decoder receives the digital data and reproduces it on a monitor. The adoption of the MPEG2 system combined with Panasonic,s unique transmission technologies ensures video monitoring with natural and high-quality images.
High-quality transmission in MPEG2
Multicast system
MPEG2 image compression technology, employed in digital satellite broadcasting, is used to send and receive video images and voices at a rate of 9Mbps and 30frames/second maximum. You can monitor the status at remote locations with high-definition images. Image

Unicast system
The multicast system is best suited to cases where the number of cameras exceeds that of monitors or where video images from one camera are monitored with multiple display monitors.
The unicast system is best suited to cases where video images from specified cameras are displayed full-time on specified display monitors.

Panasonic,s unique technology has successfully reduced the delay time for sending data to the decoder from the encoder to as low as 150ms. The result is natural, smooth monitoring without the difficulties inherent in conventional systems when operating the camera.

Camera control through a single coaxial cable Panning, tilting, and zooming combinations of the camera can be controlled, without installing additional control cables, by sending CGI commands from the system controller. The system controller can be customized according to the size of the surveillance system and the operating methods. Equipment control with RS-485 cables is also possible. Highly reliable system
Existing system
Up to now, the complicated cable wiring of surveillance systems for a complex facility has been one of the factors that deteriorate system reliability. Now, by installing Panasonic,s MPEG2 encoder and decoder at each surveillance point or monitoring room with dedicated fiber optics, you can arrange the cable wiring in a simpler way, thus ensuring highly secure system stability.

System850 (WJ-SX850)
Video images from multiple cameras can be distributed simultaneously by introducing the MPEG2 encoder and decoder, which are compatible with the multi-cast system featuring high-speed switching capability and dedicated large-capacity fiber optic cables. Now, you have the flexibility to expand surveillance points and monitoring rooms.

Surveillance points identifiable with characters A variable transmission rate is available anytime The video transmission rate can be dynamically varied during an alert or through the CGI control from the system controller without rebooting the system.
A title of up to 16 characters can be given to each camera on the network. You can identify camera locations with Alphanumeric characters, thus enabling reduction of false recognition.

MPEG MPEG is a standard constituted by the ITU-TS (International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for the compression/expansion of digital video images and voice. The Motion Picture Experts Group, a subordinate organization to the ISO, which was responsible for setting the standard, simply represents the title of the standard. MPEG2 is a technology for digitally compressing video images. The data transmission rate covers a range from several Mbps to several tens of Mbps. It is capable of displaying 30 frames/second of 720 x 480-dot images. All in all, it features high-quality images that are also used for DVD-video discs and digital satellite broadcasting.
