Now here's something I haven't written in a long time, a switch. The switch is a network bridge that processes and routes data to different devices in an Ethernet network. Switches are used to create a mirrored image of data that can be sent to an external device. A user may share his or her Internet connection via a switch. But what if it is the latest LVD KVM switch from ATEN Technology? Well, in that case, things change a little. Why? Keep on reading and see what I mean.

The TouchScreen LCD KVM (KL3116T) switch is the latest ATEN and industry's first Dual-Rail touch screen display LCD all-in-one switch. It offers access to up to 16 servers and support for both USB and PS/2 in a 1U rack configuration. The 17-inch touch screen LCD allows the user to monitor and troubleshoot servers and, by daisy chaining additional KVM switches, the user is able to control up to the “modest” (you know that's ironic) amount of 512 computers or servers. A slide in-out keyboard with built-in touchpad is available if you don't like the touchscreen interface.

John Owen, director of sales, ATEN Technology, Inc., had a few things to declare regarding the LCD KVM switch, “Our new Touch Screen LCD KVM (KL3116T) is uniquely suited for server operations where administrators require quick configuration changes such as industrial, manufacturing and laboratory environments. […] By integrating touch screen functionality into the LCD panel, users enjoy the convenience and productivity gains of managing servers with quick touch and tap commands instead of a mouse.”

This is a wonderful and definitely useful device and were it not for the price of 3.499 USD, I would recommend it to everyone. But since the price is pretty high (understandable, however), I warmly recommend it to network administrators that deal with huge networks of intertwined computers. The rest... well, we will have to wait until it is cheaper... a lot cheaper.
