More Than an Update – the ZyWALL ZLD v2.20! The new 2.20 firmware for the USG product range from ZyXEL provides more than 90 enhancements including a new user interface, support for an End Point Security check and more. ZyWALL ZLD v2.20 – More Than an Update! The new ZyWALL v2.20 firmware solution offers a comprehensive set of improved and new features helping users to deploy the USG easily. The new feature set provides various major benefits as well as many additional enhancements such as the following. Easy to Deploy The new GUI (user interface) with a better “Look n`Feel” offers improved usability and multiple benefits. This includes a reorganised menu tree as well as easy possibilities for administrators to monitor the device status (virtual device). User-friendly table operations and improved troubleshooting options - which offer a GUI page

Improved Routing Architecture The ZLD v2.20 now creates the routing policy internally so that users do not need to create policy routes in various scenarios such as NAT 1:1 mapping, NAT loopback or LAN/WAN traffic routing, and IPSec VPN. In addition, the firmware v2.20 allows the policy route priority to be changed, resulting in a higher precedence for the policy route over the direct route.

This problem sometimes caused hassles to find out which object has been related to which policy. With the new object reference, administrators can easily find out the relations of an object.

Intelligent Gigabit PoE Switch The GS2200-24P is ideally suited for small and medium businesses looking for deploying voice, wireless, and IP surveillance solutions which require Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity. It provides high-performance and secure 10/100/1000Mbps connectivity, access resiliency and security, traffic management and QoS. High-performance PoE Switch Architecture The GS2200-24P provides 56Gbps switching capacity and 41.7Mpps performance to enable the connection of high-performance desktop devices with resources at the heart of the network. Alternatively, the GS2200-24P can be deployed at the edge of the network to provide PoE power to devices such as IP phones, wireless access points (APs) or IP based CCTV cameras. It also offers extensive features for SME businesses including VLANs, CoS/QoS, Port Trunking, Rapid Spanning Tree, port security, RSTP (802.1w), security (port security, 802.1x authentication) and network management to meet future SME requirements. Convergence Application Aware Switching To enable businesses to utilise a truly converged application network the GS2200-24P provides all of the features to optimise traffic prioritisation. This enables businesses to support data, voice (VoIP), video and CCTV streams across the same network. This is achieved through eight 802.1p hardware priority queues and the WFQ, WRR and SPQ scheduling algorithm feature. This ensures that the switch reacts to time-sensitive applications first by assigning services to specific VLANs within the switch and the switch network. The GS2200-24P also provides multi-layer Access Control Lists (ACL) for the application of policies to network traffic. Simplified Deployment The GS2200-24P can work with other PoE standard-based devices such as wireless access points, VoIP phones, and CCTV IP surveillance cameras without the need for separate power supplies as the Ethernet switch provides the necessary power. Consequently, the deployment is much easier without the need for new

installations of electrical power sources both externally for CCTV cameras and internally in the ceiling for wireless access points. Intelligent PoE for Cost-saving ZyXEL’s intelligent PoE feature provides two power supply modes : • Classification mode: The switch reserves the maximum power (mW) to each powered device (PD) according to the priority levels. • Consumption mode: The switch manages the total power supply, so each connected PD gets the actual power it needs. ZyXEL Launches New Web Configurator ZyXEL has developed a new user-friendly Web GUI (graphical user interface). The “Easy Mode” allows installing the device quickly and safely in every home environment. ZyXEL’s NBG-419N is the first home router equipped with the new configurator. Later in 2010 it will be standard on all consumer routers. Easy Mode for Quick Setup The “Easy Mode” comprises navigating functions, basic setup tasks and a comprehensive network map. TV Production Company Increases Network Security with ZyXEL KM Prod is a production company that produces programmes for French television like “Grand Journal“, “Dimanche Plus“ and other TV shows during the Film Festival in Cannes, has expanded continually since it was founded in 1994. Parallel to this, the need for more Internet access has increased. In order to avoid any illegal downloading, to limit unnecessary access to the Internet and to increase staff productivity, KM Prod opted for the installation of a ZyWALL USG 300, a ZyXEL UTM firewall, and for a wireless hotspot gateway ZyXEL G-4100. The Challenge Today, more than 200 employees, who work from the two production company locations, need daily access to the Internet. The need increases when events like the Cannes Festival take place when more than 600 people are working for KM Prod and 200 of these additionally need access to the Internet. “Due to the growing demands, we really had to pose ourselves the question of how we can provide Internet access and also control it,“ Marc Tayar, KM Prod’s IT Manager, comments. “For certain programmes, for example “Grand Journal“, a reliable Internet access is especially important. High availability has to be guaranteed. Forbidden downloading has often caused connection overload.“ To increase the network security and to guarantee high availability of the Internet connections systematic supervision of the KM Prod employees was called for. The Solution “For several years now, we’ve been looking for an efficient solution which puts a stop to illegal downloading,” Marc Tayar points out. Then, at an IT trade fair in 2008, KM Prod met up with the ZyXEL team. Every external employee gets his own user name and password and is granted two or six hour or whole day Internet access. “Owing to the fact that the Internet connection is not run via our internal company network, temporary staff do not have access to any internal documents of our production company and illegal downloading is no longer possible. The new security mechanisms have made a decisive contribution to the higher network security of our internal network and our Internet access,“ Marc Tayar concludes.
