Ross Rugby Club - Newsletter no 10 – February 2016 Player/member profile Name: Guy Pearson D.O.B.: still a pup Married/children etc: Single Occupation: General handy man and entrepreneur Playing/coaching career: Started playing for the 2nds on the wing but has also played in the centre and at fullback. Has made some appearances for the 1st XV, again on the wing and adopted the nickname ‘the octopus’ for his knack of latching on to his opponents in tackles. Has been missing a bit this season following a succession of shoulder dislocations – man up Guy ☺ . Helps out with the junior section wherever he can Interesting facts: Works with his grandad in the building industry. Also works with former first team captain Gavin Oates, where he is third at the helm to their empire, albeit doing ALL the graft. Guy is very much a ladies man with natural charm and charisma. Plays skittles. 1 1st XV Ross on wye 0 Ashley down 13 December 5 2015 Kingswood 21 Ross on wye 9 December 12 2015 Ross on wye 12 Bristol Aerospace 6 December 19 2015 Ross on wye 21 Westbury 7 January 23 2016 We are 4th in the league with 39 points, 3 points behind Old Colstonians and we have a game in hand. The Ladies have had all new training kit sponsored by Crizal Uv and Central engineering from the optical part of the world and are very proud of their new training kit - do look at the website for more pictures of it. 5 Juniors This Sunday sees Sam Verralls of Worcester Warriors coming to Greytree to give some coaching to the Under 12s Numbers continue to be pleasing especially in the newly formed Pups coached by Casey, Bas and Stuart The Under 13s are effectively disbanded owing to lack of numbers and are with the Under 14s We are still struggling with the Under 10s with a lack of numbers but are running a festival at Greytree with the RFU and Worcester Warriors for local primary schools in February The end of season awards night will be in the Eagle Inn on April 22 – details to follow Under 13/14 County Representation Ross has an U13 player who has been selected both to play for the county and onto the Worcester DPP (Developing Player Pathway). This is a fabulous achievement, well done Ryan Comfort. The U14s representation has grown from 4 county players last year to 10 this year. The boys were successful in being selected for the county squad despite stiff competition for many of the positions. We have five forwards, scrum half and backs representation. There were three players who were not selected but all of these showed good levels of rugby commitment and one had been asked back for a second assessment. Congratulations to the selected players for their progress and achievement in rugby: Flynn Ruddiforth, Joshua Simms, Jaydn Decloedt, Cameron Ogilvie (also with Worcester DPP), Luke Osborne-Ford, Ben Pilot, Josh Lewis, Callum Coe, James Aston and Ollie Cross. 6 Coaching – • Kicking Game CPD will be run at the club on February 7 • Rugby Ready Course to run at Greytree in March – we have at least 10 booked on from the club. This comprises Brian Harris, Malcolm Hannaford, Ben Taylor Davies and Scott Parker. A great deal of work has been achieved by the committee and proposals are now being presented to various potential funds. A big vote of thanks to the committee for their efforts on our behalf Christmas Draw Christmas draw took £1300, £300 to the First Responders and after printing costs net profit £780 - thanks to Brian yet again for his sterling efforts Web site http://www.rossrugby.co.uk – don’t forget, you can find all club info on our site.
