Revision 2 — August 2012 This is the second edition of the Vid-Center6.0 User Guide.
New Features French localization of Vid-Center Embedded: All Vid-Center Embedded UI functions are available in French. Most logs and messages are in English only. Spanish localization of Vid-Center Embedded: All Vid-Center Embedded UI functions are available in Spanish. Most logs and messages are in English only. Support for Pacom 8001 and 105x Controller integration: A licensed feature that allows the EdgeVR to connect to a Pacom controller, which sends the EdgeVR alarm and door access message which trigger configured events. For more information, refer to TN525 Pacom Alarm Panel Integration with Nextiva EdgeVR. Support for Multi-Zone for DMP Control Panels: The EdgeVR now supports the concept of Zones from the DMP control panel. Support for VideoTec PTZ Keyboard: The EdgeVR now supports the VideoTec DCZ USB keyboard for PTZ control in Vid-Center Embedded. Support for Panasonic WV-SW352 camera. Custom camera passwords: The EdgeVR allows changing the password to be used for communication between IP cameras and the EdgeVR. Added "Enable Direct Camera Setup" checkbox to the Network page: If checked, this feature allows the remote Vid-Center users to be able to open the IP cameras Web interfaces, even if they are on the EdgeVR second network.

New Features Relay Output on DVR Events: The relay output on the EdgeVR is controllable through events. Motion detection, dry contacts, webATM or analytics events can automatically control the relay output state. The relay output closes for the post event duration and returns to the normal state after. For more information, refer to the EdgeVR for Firmware 15.0 User Guide. Surveillance Analytics through S1808e and S1816e encoders: The EdgeVR supports Surveillance Analytics on the Edge from the S1808e and S1816e encoders. Setup and licensing is done on the S1800e encoders. For more information about configuring Surveillance Analytics and setting up events, refer to the Nextiva S1800e User Guide and the EdgeVR for Firmware 15.0 User Guide . IP camera connection lost: A new icon
is displayed when a camera stream is lost.
Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) Alarm Panel Integration: A licensed feature that you can configure the DMP panel to send alarm, access and keypad events to the EdgeVR. The EdgeVR can then be configured to change recording rates, resolution, pre and post record times based on the events received from the DMP panel. Vid-Center is a versatile video viewing software intended to help security guards, operators, and other managers to perform common tasks such as viewing live video, recorded video, and event video, as well as exporting and saving video for distribution. Compatible with the EdgeVR, NetDVR II, MicroDVR II and mDVR, Vid-Center features an intuitive user interface that displays up to 16 independent camera views on a single screen. Once Vid-Center has been installed and configured by the system administrator, you can begin using it to view live or recorded video. Starting Vid-Center
Starting Vid-Center If Vid-Center is deployed with Op-Center, you may need to provide login credentials when starting Vid-Center. The Op-Center user permission management feature allows system administrators to restrict access to certain features of Vid-Center based on user permission defined in Op-Center. If the user permissions feature has been implemented, you will need to obtain your login credentials with the corresponding permissions.Passwords are case-sensitive and only support English characters. Vid-Center recognizes two types of users: Administrators: have complete access to the EdgeVR. Users: have only basic access to view video. Administrators can further restrict access for users depending on their requirements.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. From Windows XP

Switching Languages The Vid-Center user interface is localized into the following languages, English, French and Spanish. You can change the language through the Help menu.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. From the menu, click Help > Languages. 3. Select the language.
Logging into a DVR You connect to a DVR to view live or recorded video stored on the device. There are two ways you can log into a DVR. You can use the one of the following ways to connect to a DVR The Dashboard: Lists all the DVR that you connected to in the pervious session under Recent Connections. The Task Actions pane: Lists all DVRs that you can connect to. Vid-Center provides two types of access to connect to a DVR: Administrator: For individuals who have permission to program the DVR. With administrator access, you can view the system log, reset the DVR, set or update the date and time, update the DVR software, and change the DVR settings. User: For individuals, such as shift managers who maintain and use the DVR but do not need to have access to its control properties. NOTE: Only one administrator can log into a DVR at a time. Other administrators who try to log in will be given user access.

Viewing Live Video Once you have connected to the DVRs, Vid-Center allows you to view live video coming from cameras connected to the DVR. You can also play an audio message that you have recorded. VidCenter intelligently fits up to 16 video in the Video tab. You can optionally choose for one camera to be larger than the rest by double clocking on the desired camera.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 2. From theTask Center pane, click Live Video.
3. From the Video toolbar, select the tile layout. Choose one of the following: Auto Camera Layout: Displays video from all cameras and maximizes the area used to display the video, but force all video to be the same size. Double-click a video tile to make it larger than the rest. 1 Camera Layout: Displays video from 1 camera. 2 × 2 Camera Layout: Displays video from 4 cameras. 3 × 3 Camera Layout: Displays video from 9 cameras. 4 × 4 Camera Layout: Displays video from 16 cameras. 3 × 2 Camera Layout: Displays video from 6 cameras. 5 × 3 Camera Layout: Displays video from 15 cameras.

Maintain Aspect Ratio: Select this option to keep the video proportions when resizing the video. Buffer Live Video to File: Select this option to keep all video in a temporary file on the computer from the time you make the request. This allows you to seek to back and forth through video. Otherwise, clear this option for better performance and to view live video indefinitely. NOTE: If this is option is enabled, playing live video continuously can cause you to run out of temporary space on the computer or degrade the overall live playback performance. You should set up a guard tour with zones to run live video for a prolonged period of time. Allow Frame Dropping: Select this option to play video in real time. Frames will be dropped to maintain the specified playback rate on older computers that are incapable of playing all video frames. Otherwise, disable this to play all video frames. Video Renderer: Select a Video Renderer that is appropriate for the computer that you are using. The default selecting is Verint Direct3D Renderer (Normal).

Using the Relay Switch
Using the Relay Switch Events can be configured to trigger a relay output on the EdgeVR. Motion detection, dry contacts, webATM or analytics events can automatically control the relay output state. When an event occurs, the relay is activated (turning on a light or buzzer) and remains active until the event ends after which the relay switch returns to its original state. For events configured to trigger a relay output, the Relay operation switch allows you to stop the current event recording and deactivate the relay out. NOTE: Deactivating the relay out and stopping the current event recording should only be done after ensuring that no further action is required.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Live Video.
4. Play live video. 5. From the Video tab, click Camera Properties . 6. Click Relay Operations to view the relay switch.
7. Move the switch left to activate the relay or right to deactivate the relay.

Viewing Recorded Video Vid-Center allows you to view recorded video stored on the DVR. You can view video from a set of cameras that can be from a single DVR or from multiple DVR that have been combined into a Virtual DVR.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Recorded Video.
4. From the Task Actions toolbar, click Choose View. 5. Select the cameras to view. To Perform the following steps view video a. 6. Click Duration to set the length of video to view. NOTE: If no duration is set, video retrieval will continue indefinitely until you make another request for video, a request for DVR properties, or click Stop Download in the Video tab. 7. (Optional) Click the Motion playback icon

8. Select the time period to view. 9. To specify the starting date and time, From the Task Actions toolbar, click the Request Video icon . a. Set the starting date and time.
b. (Optional) Select End Time, and enter the end date and time. c. Click OK. 10. To browse to the starting minute, from the Task Actions pane, expand the video tree and double-click on a minute to begin retrieving video for that time.

Viewing Recorded Video Using the Video Browser The Video Browser provides thumbnail images that allow you to quickly view video from a single camera during a specific interval (day or time period). This allows you to easily track objects over a longer period of time without having to watch the entire video. The Video Browser divides the day into three views: Every Hour: Displays 24 image thumbnails from every hour in the day. Every 10 minute: Displays six image thumbnails from every 10 minutes in the selected hour. Every Minute: Displays ten image thumbnails from every minute in the selected 10 minute span.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Recorded Video .

Viewing Recorded Video Using the Video Browser 4. From the Task Actions pane, expand the video tree to the day or hour folder.
5. Click one of the following: Browse Day Browse Hour 6. From the Video Browser tab, double-click a thumbnail image to change views (Every hour, Every 10-minutes or Every minute).

Using the Video Browser Navigation Bar The Camera Navigation buttons allows you to select different cameras from a DVR and view thumbnail images from the selected camera.
# Description 1 Previous Time Span: Broadens the time. 2 Previous Camera: Display thumbnail images in the Video Browser from the previous camera in the DVR. 3 DVR list: All DVRs in a virtual DVR. You can choose which DVR that you want to browse video from. 4 Camera list: All avaiable cameras from the selected DVR. 5 Next Camera: Display thumbnail images in the Video Browser from the next camera in the DVR. 6 Change Time Span: Allows you to return to the video tree view if you have navigated to another task and change the starting time.

Viewing Recorded Event Video
Viewing Recorded Event Video When events are triggered, the event is recorded to the DVR. You can play back event video at any time for review. During playback, you can also view transactional data receipts generated from ATM or WebTeller.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Events .
4. From the Task Action pane, set the starting date and time.
5. (Optional) Select Use end date/time, and set the end date and time. Selecting this option will download event log entries that occurs between the two dates. If you do not set an end date and time, event log entries from the start date to the present will be downloaded. 6. (Optional) Select Download preview images to also download thumbnail images of the event. 7. Click Start Downloading Events.

Using the Video Playback Controls
Using the Video Playback Controls When viewing recorded video, you can use the Video Playback controls to move through the different frames of the video. The Video Playback controls work exactly like the buttons on a DVD remote allowing to play, pause, step backwards or forwards.
# Description 1 Step Backward: Moves backward one frame at a time. 2 Play: Plays the current video clip. 3 Pause: Pauses the video playback (does not stop the download) 4 Step Forward: Moves forward one frame at a time. 5 Audio Channels: Turns audio channel 1 or 2 on and off. 6 Playback Speed: Changes the playback speed of the video. 7 Current Playback Time: Indicates the current playback time. 8 Time Slider: Indicates the position of the current images in the complete video clip. It also allows you to move through the downloaded clip. 9 Last Image Time: Indicates the time of the last downloaded image.

Creating Still Images and Video Clips During playback of live or recorded video, you can save, print or export a single frame as an image. You can also export portions of the live or recorded video to an external storage device such as a hard disk, optical drive (CD or DVD) or USB flash drive. NOTE: If you did not select the Buffer Live Video To File option, found in the Video tab settings, then you can only save or export the current image. You will not be able to save the live video as an lwx file. The available export formats are: Format

Saving a Still Image Use the following procedure to save a still image of a video playing in the Video tab.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. Play a live or recorded video. a. Right-click a video, then select Export this Frame. 4. Click Browse to set the location, name and image type, then click Save. 5. (Optional) Select Include event data in exported image to add event data to the image. 6. Click OK.

Creating Still Images and Video Clips
Printing a Still Image Use the following procedure to print a still image of a video playing in the Video tab.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. Play a live or recorded video. 4. Right-click on the playing video, then click Print this Frame. 5. Click Browse to set the location, name and image type, then click Save. 6. Select the printer to use, then click OK.
Saving a Video Clip as an LWX file Use the following procedure to save the video clip as an LWX. You can view this file only in VidCenter. If many cameras are displayed, all their contents are saved to the same file.

Saving a Video Clip as an AVI Use the following procedure to save the video clip as an AVI. This is a standard video format that can be viewed using any media player. One AVI file is created for each camera in the Video tab.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. Play a live or recorded video. 4. From the menu, click File > Advanced > Export Clip to Avi File.
5. Under the Time Period area, set the start and end time of the video clip. 6. From the Video Encoding list, choose the video encoding format. 7. (Optional) From the Audio Encoding list, choose the audio encoding format. NOTE: The available video and audio formats will vary depending on the codecs installed on the computer. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, the mp3 audio codec is not available due to licensing restrictions. 8. From the Include Checked Cameras list, choose the cameras to include. 9. (Optional) Under the Camera Audio Channels area, select Include Audio Channel 1 and/or Include Audio Channel 2 for each camera.

Click Browse and select the target folder. 13. In the File Name Pattern box, type the prefix for the AVI file. 14. Click Begin Export. 15. Click Done.

When you create the file, the contents of each camera that are displayed in the video pane are saved to the same file.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. Play a live or recorded video. 4. From the menu, click File > Wrap Video As.
5. Click Browse and set the location and name for the file, then click Save. 6. (Optional) In the Enter the password to use to protect the file box, type a password to protect the video clip. 7. Select the player type for the video. You can wrap the video into an .exe file that contains video and the LWXViewer player using one of the following options:

Exporting Video to an External Storage Device You can export recorded video from the DVR to an optical disc (CD or DVD) or USB drive so that you can view the video at another time or location. NOTE: The CD/DVD option is only available for DVR that have factory installed CD/DVD drives. An EdgeVR running firmware version 15.3 and higher does not close the session after writing video allowing you to reuse the CD/DVD for multiple exports. Video can be exported in one of the following file formats: LWX: This file is only playable in Vid-Center. EXE: This option wraps a video clip and the viewer application into a single self-running .exe file that can be played on any computer without Vid-Center.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the menu, click File > Advanced > Record Video to DVR Storage Device.

Editing Video Clips for Export In addition to saving entire clips, Vid-Center allows you to trim video to only save the video of interest. All edited clips are saved as LWX file, which you can later wrap or export to AVI.

Receiving and Acknowledging Instant Alerts Instant Alerts allows an EdgeVR to immediately notify the Nextiva Op-Center server or Alert server of high priority emergency events. Dispatchers configured in Op-Center to process the alerts and notify or forward the alert to the appropriate destination. Vid-Center is one of the applications that can receive Instant Alerts. When an alert is triggered, the Instant Alert Notifier dialog appears. From this dialog, you can acknowledge the alerts, view the associated video, or write comments. There are three different alert states represented with the background color of red, yellow and green: Unacknowledged: You have not viewed the alert to determine its urgency or you decided to change the status of an acknowledged alert. Acknowledged: You have begun investigating the alert and added comments. Cleared: You have completed the investigation of the alert and cleared it from the notification dialog.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. From the Instant Alert Notifier, select an alert.
3. Right-click an instant alert and select one of the following: Mark as Acknowledged: Mark the Alert as Acknowledged as you begin an investigation for the alert. Mark as Not Acknowledged: Mark the alert as Not Acknowledged in case you change the status of the alert. Mark as Cleared: Mark as cleared when you have completed the investigation of the alert. Using Virtual DVRs
Using Virtual DVRs Virtual DVR is a collection of physical DVRs that are treated as a single device and manage them during a single session. On older DVRs such as the NetDVR II or MicroDVR II, a license is required on the DVR to create virtual DVRs. Users who have the EdgeVR series already have a license to create virtual DVRs. You can use one of two methods to create a zone. 1. You can use the Virtual DVR Wizard. 2. You can save a set to connected DVRs as Virtual DVR.
Using the Virtual DVR Wizard to Create a Virtual DVR Use the Virtual DVR Wizard to create a virtual DVR and optionally a zone and guard tours. A zone is a collection of cameras that you want to view live or recorded video. Zones can help you organize cameras that provide relevant information, such as a collection of all exit cameras for a site or a collection of cameras that cover all teller stations. A guard tour is a collection of zones. You can use a guard tour to automatically rotate through zones when monitoring live video for a site. NOTE: To use the wizard, you should not be connected to any DVRs.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. From the menu, click Tasks > Connections > New Virtual DVR Wizard. 3. In the Virtual DVR Name box, type a descriptive name for the Virtual DVR 4. From the All DVRs in database list, choose one or more DVRs. 5. Click the right arrow to move the selected DVRs to the DVRs in new Virtual DVR list.

Using Zones A zone is a collection of cameras that you want to view live or recorded video. Zones can help you organize cameras that provide relevant information, such as a collection of all exit cameras for a site or a collection of cameras that cover all teller stations. A zone can include any 16 cameras from any DVR in the virtual DVR. NOTE: A virtual DVR must exist to be able to save a zone. Otherwise you will lose the zones when exiting Vid-Center. You can use one of two methods to create a zone. 1. You can create a zone from the cameras in the Video tab. 2. You can create a zone using the Create New Zone feature.
Saving Cameras As a Zone You can save the cameras playing live video as a zone. Use the following procedure to save live camera video as a zone:

Using Guard Tours A guard tour is composed of one or more zones where each zone is given a predefined amount of time to play video from its assigned cameras. Guard tours allows you to view the entire premise at regularly scheduled intervals.
Creating Guard Tours Use the following procedure to create a guard tour composed of one or more zones.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Live Video.

Using Audio Messages
Using Audio Messages Vid-Center allows you to record audio messages that can be played through the DVR to communicate requests, instructions, or other information to a site, while watching live video. The permission management feature of Op-Center allows control over which messages users have access to. You do not need to connect to a DVR in order to record and save messages. Permission may be disabled for some features or functionality listed below. Contact your Op-Center administrator for assistance if you are unable to access certain features or functionality.
Audio Out Requirements In order to use the audio message feature, the DVR must support audio out. DVRs must support Audio Out: NetDVR II can supports audio out with the correct audio board installed. MicroDVR II support audio out EdgeVR supports audio out Amplified speakers attached to DVR PC running Vid-Center with properly configured microphone and speakers NOTE: This is only necessary if you need to record and then send messages. If you only need to send messages that have been pre-recorded then you do not need microphones and speakers on the PC running Vid-Center.

Recording an Audio Message From Vid-Center, you can create and save messages to send at a later date. Saved messages are stored as PCM in the Vid-Center database. The different quality levels correspond to different sampling rates. NOTE: You do not need a connection to a DVR to record and save messages. In an EdgeVR environment that includes Op-Center, the system administrator can configure which messages you can have access to. If you are unable to access certain features or functionality, contact your Op-Center administrator.

Using the At-a-Glance Feature The at a glance options provides a snapshot of video taken at specific a time interval. This allows you to review a period of time without having to watch hours of video. The video tree provides you with two at-a-glance viewing options. Day-at-a-glance: For every camera in the system, displays a video snapshot at the specified interval for the selected day. Default value is 60 minutes. Hour-at-a-glance: For every camera in the system, displays a video snapshot at the specified interval for the selected hour. Default value is 4 minutes.
Configuring the At-a-Glance Time Interval Use the following procedure to set time interval between each video image for the Day-at-a-Glance and Hour-at-a-Glance.

Using PTZ Cameras Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras are capable of remote directional and zoom control. Operators can control PTZ cameras for live video using the PTZ controls in Vid-Center.
Controlling a PTZ Camera The pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) controls allows you to control PTZ cameras connected to the DVR through Vid-Center and access the On-screen Display (OSD) to configure the PTZ camera.

Chapter 2: Advanced Features
Playing a PTZ Preset or Pattern A preset is a custom-defined PTZ camera position. When you select a preset, the camera instantly pans to that particular angle, focusing on the area of interest .
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Live Video.
4. Expand the DVR camera tree and drag the PTZ cameras (
)to the Video tab.
5. From the Video toolbar, click View Live. 6. From the Video tab, click Camera Properties . 7. Click PTZ Controls to view the PTZ controls. 8. Click on a PTZ camera tile to enable the PTZ controls. 9. From the Presets list, choose a preset to play. 10. From the Pattern list, choose a pattern from 1 to 9 to play.

Adjusting Image Quality
Adjusting Image Quality For each video playing in Vid-Center, image properties such as brightness and contrast can be adjusted to improve the quality. NOTE: The Image Adjustment tools are only available when using a Verint Renderer Type. Adjusting the camera properties does not affect the recorded video files. However, you can print an image with the adjusted camera properties.
► Perform the following steps: 1. Start Vid-Center. 2. Connect to a DVR or Virtual DVR. 3. From the Task Center pane, click Live Video or Recorded Video . 4. Select the cameras to view. 5. From the Video tab, click Camera Properties 6. Click Image Adjustment Controls.
7. Configure the image quality. Move the Brightness Move the Contrast
slider to adjust the amount of radiant light. slider to change the degree of difference between light and dark
extremes. Move the Saturation Move the Hue
slider to adjust the intensity of color in the image.

Move the Sharpen/Soften Image

8. Select Apply to all cameras to apply the same settings to all cameras playing.
