The AC cord can be replaced for each respective country's approved AC connector. Run the NOMAD® While Plugged into the AC Adaptor or the 12VDC Cigarette Lighter Cord: The Nomad® can be driven for longer periods using either the AC Adaptor, or the DC cord. As long as the unit is plugged into either power source, the light can be turned on, and driven in this manner. • Note: Continuously charging (leaving the Nomad® plugged in) will not damage the electronics. • The batteries are not being charged if the light is ON in any mode. The Nomad® Prime must be OFF. As soon as the light is turned off, the power source will automatically begin to charge the Nomad® Lithium Batteries. Note: The Nomad® light will NOT accept a 24VDC input. DC Cigarette Lighter Cord (12VDC) The Prime can be charged in this manner as well. Battery Charging Indicator When you plug in the AC Adaptor, a small GREEN LED will come on, near the DC cord end. This indicates that the Adaptor has power, and that it is functional. As you plug the Adaptor into the Nomad®’s socket, a GREEN INDICATOR LED will come on, above the socket. A BLINKING GREEN LED indicates that the batteries are being charged with external Power. When the NOMAD® is completely charged, the Green LED will stop blinking and stay ON. Battery Life Indicator Once the battery is charged, the charger removed, and the light has been turned ON the status indicator at the base of the Nomad® indicates: Color Description Green Battery charge is full and adequate for the selected intensity. Orange Red Power is at mid-point. Consider lowering intensity if extended use is needed. The Nomad® will soon run out of power. Lower the intensity and/or charge the Nomad® promptly. OPERATION • Lift spring loaded tab cover to access mode switch. • Operational Modes: • • For P/N 200-800, the Operational Modes are as follows: Approximate Mode Description Lumens 1 Low 500 2 Medium 1,300 3 High 4,000 4 Blinker 4,000 (1.5 Hz/Sec) For all other Nomad® models, Modes are the respective wavelength in Low, Medium and High output (total of 3 modes). Performance/Battery Life: Once the Mode has been selected, the Nomad® is fully operational. Mode Description Battery Life* 1 Low 24 hrs 2 Medium 9 hrs 3 High 3 hrs 4** Blinker 10 hrs *Battery Life depends upon: 1. Battery age (Lithium batteries tend to degrade by 10% of their total charge each year. 2. Ambient conditions. **P/N 200-800 Only NOTES: • If the AC adaptor or DC cord are installed while the Nomad® is ON, the battery life will be preserved. • If the AC adaptor or DC cord is connected to external power and the Nomad® is OFF, the external power will charge the battery. • If the Nomad® is turned ON, the battery will stop charging and the external power is redirected to turn the Nomad® ON. Push down on the Level Tabs until each leg extension is fully retracted. Press on the Leg Lock, and fold leg up and into the enclosure. Repeat for all three legs. Move Sliding Cap over legs, and close lens cover. WARNINGS WHEN STORING The Nomad® depends on “ambient air” for cooling of its light head. After being on for a while, the head will become hot to the touch. The elapsed time will depend exclusively on the ambient air temperature. The warmer it is, the faster the head’s temperature will increase. • When it is time to put the Nomad® away, either wait for the unit to cool off (usually 10-30 min) or protect your hands (with work gloves or cloth) as the light head is pushed down into its housing cavity. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL NOT DAMAGE THE UNIT BY PUTTING IT AWAY WHILE THE HEAD IS HOT. 5. MAINTENANCE Keep your Nomad® Fully Charged • Maintain the light fully charged at all times, so that it is ready for use in the event of an emergency. • Remember that the full re-charge time is roughly 5 hours (summer, warm ambient) or 6 hours (winter, cold ambient). • If used outdoors in cold weather for an extended period of time, allow the Nomad® to warm up to above 10˚C/50˚F before charging. • Note that Lithium-Ion Batteries have a 500 full charge life cycle (CC followed by a CV cycle)*. After this number of cycles, you will begin to see a proportionate decreased usage time between charges. 4. PACK AND STORE • • • Turn power OFF by pressing the Power/Mode switch until the light is no longer ON. Lower the telescope by un-tightening the knurled rings, and push the head into the enclosure. • Make sure to realign the swinging head so it fits inside the housing slots. • Be sure to re-install the diffuser lens. If used, disconnect the AC Adaptor from the Nomad®. • *CC = Constant Current charge (fast rate) CV = Constant Voltage charge (slow rate) The Nomad’s Lithium-Ion Batteries have a top-off or micro-charge life of around 1,200 cycles or more (CV only). If the Nomad® is un-used for 45 to 60 days, plug in the AC Adaptor for (half) 1/2 hour to bring the batteries back up to peak charge. Keep your Nomad® clean & free of dirt • As needed, wash your Nomad® using a soft washcloth, clean water and a mild soap. When done, pat the unit dry with a soft cloth.
