Using H.323+ based wireless IP handsets, you have access to the robust suite of Meridian SL-100 features. You can lower your costs, simplify management, and add the freedom and flexibility of wireless IP telephony powered by the reliability of the Meridian SL-100 system.
802.11 Wireless IP Gateway for the Meridian SL-100
802.11 Wireless IP Gateway components
• Easily add high-quality wireless voice transmission to an IEEE 802.11compliant Wireless LAN (WLAN) IP network by adding the SL-100 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line card to your Meridian SL-100.
Systems package for the 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway for Meridian SL-100, which includes the Meridian SL-100 Wireless IP Gateway line card pre-loaded with application software and required cables.
• Delivers a reliable suite of Meridian SL-100 features over an 802.11 Wireless LAN IP network to third-party H.323+ based wireless IP handsets. The H.323+ based wireless handsets use third-party Access Points (APs) to communicate with the Meridian SL-100. • Supports up to 24 third-party H.323+ based wireless IP handsets for each 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line card. To support more wireless handsets on your network, simply add additional line cards (each IP shelf supports eight dual-slotted ITG-W line cards). The H.323+ based handsets utilize the third-party Nortel Networks specific firmware to deliver the Meridian SL-100 feature suite and can be easily configured using third-party administrator software. • Introduces the new Meridian SL-100 Internet Telephony Gateway (ITG) Configuration Tool. This Web-based GUI software tool generates and transfers configuration files for the 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line cards. Use it from a Web browser in a client-server environment.
The 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line card:
• Is a Pentium-based, two-slot Intelligent Peripheral Equipment (IPE) card • Emulates a Digital Line Card (XDLC) on the SL-100 • Functions as a gateway converting voice streams between the packet-switched IP network and the circuit-switched Meridian SL-100 network • Acts as Terminal Proxy Server (virtual line card) for the wireless IP handsets registering handsets and tracking the maximum number of handsets that can be registered for each line card • Contains one 10BaseT Ethernet interface connecting the card to the private LAN (E-LAN) for management, and one 10/100BaseT Ethernet interface connecting the card to the IP network for voice transmission (T-LAN) • CD-ROM package for the 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway for Meridian SL-100, which includes: – 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway application software – ITG Configuration Tool – Meridian SL-100 features.txt file for handset Administrator Tool > FTRSL100.txt – Meridian SL-100 prompt.txt file for the handset Phone Administrator Tool > PRPSL100.txt – Customer documentation and HTML Documentation Interface used to access the documentation
The Meridian SL-100 ITG Configuration Tool is a Web-based software tool used to generate, edit, and transfer configuration files to 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line cards. Install it on a server and access it with a Web browser from any client on your IP network. Using Nortel Networks Developer Program, Symbol Technologies Inc. has verified their NetVision H.323+ based wireless IP handsets, Spectrum24 802.11 WLAN Access Points, and NetVision Administrator software for compatibility with the 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line card. Please refer to: http://www.nortelnetworks.com/developer for specific details on which related Symbol products have completed this compatibility testing. Other components include: • Spare line card package for the 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway for Meridian SL-100 • E-LAN/T-LAN/RS-232 ports cable • PC maintenance cable • Meridian SL-100 100 Mbit I/O Backplane filter • 802.11 IP Enablers (24 IP Enablers for every 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway line card package)
Meridian SL-100 features on wireless IP handsets The 802.11 Wireless IP Gateway for the Meridian SL-100 uses a standard protocol to communicate with the wireless IP handsets. Call setup and call disconnect use the industry-standard H.323 messaging. Two-way H.323 “Location Request” and “Location Confirm” messages provide telephony functionality.
Lower your costs, simplify management, and add the freedom and flexibility of wireless IP telephony powered by the reliability of the Meridian SL-100 system.
