AND9600/D DAB L-band Amplifier using the NSVF4015SG4 Overview www.onsemi.com This application note explains about ON Semiconductor’s NSVF4015SG4 which is used as a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast). APPLICATION NOTE The NSVF4015SG4 is a silicon bipolar transistor best suited for high-frequency applications which is assembled in the 4-pin surface mount package. For information about the performance, please refer to the datasheet of this product. Since the evaluation board is adjusted to achieve optimal performance in L-band (1452 MHz to 1492 MHz), the product can provide 15.5 dB gain and 1.54 dB noise figure. A standard material FR4 is used for the printed circuit board (PCB). Please note that the losses of the PCB and the SMA connector are not excluded from the noise figure. © Semiconductor Components Industries, LLC, 2017 May 2017 - Rev. 0 1 Publication Order Number : AND9600/D AND9600/D ■ Summary of Data Ta  25C, Input Power = 40 dBm Parameter Symbol DC Voltage DC Current Vcc Icc Gp1 Gp2 Gp3 NF1 NF2 NF3 RLin1 RLin2 RLin3 RLout1 RLout2 RLout3 ISL1 ISL2 ISL3 f = 1452 MHz f = 1472 MHz f = 1492 MHz f = 1452 MHz f = 1472 MHz f = 1492 MHz f = 1452 MHz f = 1472 MHz f = 1492 MHz f = 1452 MHz f = 1472 MHz f = 1492 MHz f = 1452 MHz f = 1472 MHz f = 1492 MHz Pin1dB IIP3 Gain Noise Figure Input Return Loss Output Return Loss Isolation Gain 1 dB Compression Input Power Input 3rd Order Intercept Point Condition Result    11.7 11.6 11.4 11.0 12.0 12.9 19.9 19.9 19.9 2.8 9.4 15.6 15.5 15.4 1.52 1.54 1.62 12.1 11.9 11.5 11.3 12.5 13.5 20.5 20.3 20.3    12.6 12.2 11.6 11.7 12.9 13.9 20.7 20.6 20.6 V mA dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB dB f = 1472 MHz  10  dBm f1 = 1472 MHz f2 = 1473 MHz  0  dBm Pin = 30 dBm www.onsemi.com 2 2.6 8.5 15.5 15.4 15.3 Unit 3.0 10.3 15.8 15.7 15.5 AND9600/D ■ Circuit Design Vcc = 2.8V C6 R1 R2 L3 L2 C1 C2 L1 OUTPUT INPUT C3 TR1 ■Evaluation Board www.onsemi.com 3 C5 C4 AND9600/D ■ Bill of Materials Item Symbol Value Manufacturer Size Bip-Tr TR1 NSVF4015SG4 ON Semiconductor SC82FL C1, C2 100 pF TAIYOYUDEN 1005 Capacitor Resistor Inductor Material C3, C4 3 pF TAIYOYUDEN 1005 C5 1.6 pF Murata GQM1884C2A1R6CB01 1608 C6 0.1 F TAIYOYUDEN 1608 R1 56 Ω Various 1608 R2 22 kΩ Various 1608 L1 1.8 nH TOKO LL1005-FHL1N8S 1005 L2 3.9 nH TOKO LL1005-FHL3N9S 1005 L3 33 nH TOKO LL1005-FHL33NJ 1005  FR4  24.5 x 12.7 mm www.onsemi.com 4 AND9600/D Power Gain ‐ dB ■ Power Gain 20 19 18 17 2.8 V 3.0 V 16 15 2.6 V 14 13 12 11 10 1000 1100 1200 1300 1400 1500 1600 1700 1800 1900 2000 Frequency ‐ MHz ■ Isolation 0 ‐5 Isolation ‐ dB ‐10 ‐15 2.8 V ‐20 2.6 V ‐25 3.0 V ‐30 ‐35 ‐40 1000 1100 1200 1300 1400 1500 1600 1700 1800 1900 2000 Frequency ‐ MHz www.onsemi.com 5 AND9600/D ■ Input Return Loss Input Return Loss ‐ dB 0 ‐5 2.6 V 2.8 V ‐10 3.0 V ‐15 ‐20 1000 1100 1200 1300 1400 1500 1600 1700 1800 1900 2000 Frequency ‐ MHz ■ Output Return Loss Output Return Loss ‐ dB 0 ‐5 2.6 V ‐10 ‐15 3.0 V 2.8 V ‐20 1000 1100 1200 1300 1400 1500 1600 1700 1800 1900 2000 Frequency ‐ MHz www.onsemi.com 6 AND9600/D ■ Noise Figure 3 Noise Figure ‐ dB 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 0 1440 1450 1460 1470 1480 Frequency ‐ MHz 1490 1500 ■ S11, S21, S12, S22 Wide Span 40 S11,S21,S12,S22 ‐ dB 20 S21 S11 0 S22 ‐20 ‐40 S12 ‐60 ‐80 10 100 1000 Frequency ‐ MHz www.onsemi.com 7 10000 AND9600/D S(1,1) ■ Smith Chart Input Return Loss 1472 MHz freq (1.300GHz 1.700GHz) 1.3 GHz toto1.7 GHz S(2,2) ■ Smith Chart Output Return Loss 1472 MHz freq1.3 (1.300GHz 1.700GHz) GHz toto1.7 GHz www.onsemi.com 8 AND9600/D ■ Gain 1 dB Compression Point 15 Output Power ‐ dBm 10 5 0 ‐5 ‐10 ‐15 ‐20 ‐25 ‐30 ‐45 ‐40 ‐35 ‐30 ‐25 ‐20 ‐15 Input Power ‐ dBm ■Input 3rd Order Intercept Point f1 = 1452 MHz, f2 = 1492 MHz, Pin = 30 dBm www.onsemi.com 9 ‐10 ‐5 0 AND9600/D ON Semiconductor and the ON Semiconductor logo are trademarks of Semiconductor Components Industries, LLC dba ON Semiconductor or its subsidiaries in the United States and/or other countries.
