NY SOFTWARE TIL SOUNDCRAFT VI This release brings a new level of power to existing Vi4 console users, with an input channel-to-mix upgrade as well as complete compatibility with Vi6 show files. Also included is the long-awaited offline editor for Vi1 users, and a number of other user interface enhancements for all Vi consoles.
New features: The following new functionality is included in Version 4.7: - 96-Mix for Vi4! Vi4 Inputs-to-Mix capacity is now upgraded from 72 to 96 (with 3 DSP cards fitted to Local Rack; if 2 DSP cards then upgrade is from 48 to 64) - Vi4 consoles now save and load identical Show files to Vi6. - Virtual Vi1 Offline Editor now available within Virtual Vi - User Interface Enhancements on all Vi consoles:
New EQ Units control allows width in 'Q' or Octaves New Delay Units control shows delay time in ms, metres or ft & inches New scroll encoders in Show list New Sort button in Show list allows alphabetical or date-wise list sorting New warning highlight on channel strip when Oscillator enabled ‘Global Pre/post’ button renamed to 'Set Pre/post' (Vi1 only) INV button in Noise Gate renamed to 'DUCK'
Note re ViSi Remote Please note that the current release of ViSi Remote (V1.1.2) only controls up to 72 channels on a Vi4. A new version of ViSi Remote (V1.1.8) is currently awaiting approval in the App Store which will allow control of all 96 channels on an updated Vi4. This is expected to be available for download within the next two weeks, we will announce this when it happens.
Bug Fixes The following console bugs are addressed by this update: - Time/date stamp of Show file was not updated when saving show - Manual IP addresses in 192.168.1.xxx subnet could not be selected for HiQnet port - Using a wireless router with IP address in 192.168.1.xxx subnet on the HiQnet port could stop connection to DSP core - Console could restart when HiQnet connection unplugged - Error messages generated when starting console up The Virtual Vi Offline Editor software is also upgraded with the above bug fixes. We strongly recommend that you keep your console up to date and install this new release as soon as possible!
Users who did not install the last Update (V4.6.0.192), can still upgrade directly to V4.7.0.195 with no need to install 4.6.0.192 first.
Show File Compatibility Warning Because of the upgrade of Vi4 mixing capacity, and to follow the market demand for better compatibility with Vi6, the layout of the channels within the fixed layers on Vi4 has changed. This means that input channels that were vertically paired in a Vi4 show made on the pre-4.7 software will be split apart and not be vertically aligned any more when this show is loaded on a V4.7 console. This means some work will be needed to reorganise channel layouts where vertical pairs have been used. This would have to be repeated for each snapshot, if individual snapshots exist within the show. Likewise if a show that was made on the new software is loaded onto a pre-4.7 Vi4 console, the same issue will occur, but in this case the recommended solution is to update the console to V4.7. This issue is identical to the issue that used to exist when shows were transferred between a Vi4 and a Vi6, except that it will affect Vi4 users with their own shows made on the older software. With horizontally paired channels, there is only the minor inconvenience that the pairing between the two channels will be removed when an old show is loaded on a 4.7 desk, in this case the pairing simply needs to be re-engaged and the show saved again. Snapshots will not be affected. In the case of Vi1, 2 or 6 Shows, there will be no compatibility issues with shows saved on earlier versions of the software.

Update Instructions for V4.7.0.195 Note that although a common file is now used for upgrading all types of Vi console, the update procedure for Vi1 still differs from the other Vi consoles, so separate update instructions are provided for the two types. Note! If you are a Mac user, please be aware that some browsers automatically unzip the update_updater.zip file during the download process. If this happens, the update will not work properly, so you will need to consult browser documentation for guidance on how to avoid this.
Vi1 Consoles Please note that the update procedure for Vi1 is slightly different to Vi2/4/6. Read the following instructions carefully before starting the update, and refer to them during the process. It is important to note the section (Step 8) about not touching the console after the update may appear to have finished, and also switching the power off using the REAR switches after the fader recalibration (Step 11): 1. Copy the two files V4.7.0.195_Update_console.7z andV3.2.0.23_Update_updater.zip onto the root of a USB stick. (Do not unzip or rename the files and make sure both files are copied). Make sure there are no older update files in the root (you can hide these in a folder if you want to keep them on the memory stick). 2. Put the stick into a running console and press the Power button. 3. From the Power menu, select the Update Console Software option (note, this option will only be seen if there is a USB stick with a valid update file in the console). You will be prompted to save the current show – do so if necessary. 4. You will see the System Updater screen – follow the on-screen instructions to install the new version 3.2.0.23. When the System Updater install has completed, follow the instructions to press the Recall key in the snapshot section again, and the system will now move to the main desk software update screen. 5. You will now see the main System Installer menu, which contains a list of the current and new software, firmware and shows. Not all desk software releases will update all of these items. Using the Up/Down buttons in the Snapshot control area of the front panel, select the option 'Install new version', as indicated by the white highlighted button. NOTE! Check that one of the items in the list is called ‘DB’. If you do not see the DB item, it is likely that you have not completed Step 4 correctly – please check that you have the Update_updater.zip file as well as the Update_Console file on the USB stick. 6. Press the Recall button. You will now see activity with progress bars on the list menu and a green 'tick' mark will appear for each item in the right column after a few seconds. The screen and desk illumination will flash on and off during the Desk Firmware item, this is normal. When all the items have green tick marks, you will see the text: "Update Succeeded. Remove Stick, Stagebox, HiQnet and Keyboard and press Recall to restart". 7. Check that the items referred to are unplugged from the console (but leave any MADI or other option cards plugged in), and then press the Recall button. The console will restart and after 45 seconds of various start-up screens, including a large Soundcraft logo, the console will show a progress bar with the Soundcraft Vi1 logo and text 'Installing...'. 8. After about 2.5 minutes the console may appear to have returned to normal operation. Do not touch the console at this point however, but wait (up to a further minute) until another progress menu appears, this time with a large blue progress bar and a message saying: "Installing... System will turn off when installation complete".
9. Wait for the console to completely power off, then press the power button to turn the console on again. At this point the console will boot up normally, with a large white progress bar at the bottom of the screen (about 40 secs). 10. The update process is now complete and the new desk software version can be viewed in the Menu 'MAIN' page. You can also reconnect the Stagebox, if one was attached. 11. Since the desk firmware has been updated, it is advisable to carry out a Fader Recalibration following this update, as follows: - In the Menu screen, press the 'System' tab on the right, and select the DESK view. - Press the FADER CAL screen button and answer Yes to the warning dialogue. - The faders will now calibrate in four steps: Calibrate odd faders at bottom; calibrate even faders at bottom; Calibrate odd faders at top; calibrate even faders at top. The procedure will take approx. 7 minutes and when finished all the faders will return to the bottom and will have green fader glow, indicating a successful calibration. - After the calibration has finished, it is essential that the desk is switched off USING THE MAINS SWITCHES AT THE BACK OF THE CONSOLE. This ensures that the fader calibration data is stored. Do not shut the desk down using the Power button on the front panel otherwise the data will not be stored! If you wish to roll a Vi1 back to previous software after the V4.7 install for any reason, please run the update process again but using the previous update console file which is still available on the website under 'older software versions'.
Vi2/4/6 Consoles 1. Copy the two files V4.7.0.195_Update_console.7z and V3.2.0.23_Update_updater.zip onto the root of a USB stick. (Do not unzip or rename the files and make sure both files are copied). Make sure there are no older update files in the root (you can hide these in a folder if you want to keep them on the memory stick). 2. Plug the key into the front of a running console, which has the Local Rack connected and switched on, and press the Power button – select the Update Console Software option (Note, this option will only be seen if there is a USB stick with a valid update file in the console, otherwise it will say ‘Fast Restart the Console’). You will be prompted to save the current show – do so if necessary. 3. You will see the System Updater screen – follow the on-screen instructions to install the new version 3.2.0.23. When the System Updater install has completed, follow the instructions to press the Recall key in the snapshot section again, and the system will now move to the main desk software update screen. 4. You will now see the main System Installer menu, which contains a list of the current and new software, firmware and shows. Not all desk software releases will update all of these items. Using the Up/Down buttons in the Snapshot control area of the front panel, select the option 'Install New Version', as indicated by the white highlighted button. The console will then restart. (There is no need to unplug external items as with the Vi1). NOTE! Check that one of the items in the list is called ‘DB’. If you do not see the DB item, it is likely that you have not completed Step 4 correctly – please double check that you have the Update_updater.zip file as well as the Update_Console file on the USB stick. 5. When the console has booted, check the installation of the software as follows: Press Menu and check the software version build number says V4.7.0.195.
