OneTouch 4.0 Quick Start Guide OneTouch 4.0 provides a quick and easy way to scan documents using preset scan settings then send the scan to a destination application like PaperPort, Paint or Word. Each of the nine buttons can have their own unique settings. Configuring OneTouch 4.0 1. Open the OneTouch properties a. Option 1 (see figure 1) i. Hold down the button on the scanner you want to configure. b. Option 2 (see figure 2) i. Left click on the OneTouch icon in the system tray (by the Windows clock). ii. In the OneTouch panel, right click on a button to configure it. c. Note: Once the properties window is open, select the tab corresponding to the button you want to change. (see figure 3 step 1) 2. Select a Destination Application (see figure 3) a. From the list on the left, select which application should receive the scanned image. (see figure 3 step 2) b. If the desired application is not listed: i. Click on the “Options” tab and select “Show all destinations”. ii. Click back on the tab you were are modifying. iii. All applications detected by OneTouch will now be listed. c. Common destinations are: • PaperPort – Easily view and manage scanned documents. • Transfer to Storage – The scan is simply saved on the hard drive, no application is opened. • Email – A blank email is opened with the scan attached. • Word – The scan is automatically converted to a text document then opened in Microsoft Word (Requires OmniPage). 3. If “PaperPort” or “Transfer to Storage” is the selected destination, choose where the scan will be saved a. For PaperPort: i. Click on “Properties”. (see figure 3 step 3) ii. Select where the scanned document will be saved. iii. Note: If the desired folder is not listed, it will need to be added to PaperPort first. Open PaperPort, click “Tools” then “Folder Manager” (or “PaperPort Folders”) and add the folder. b. For Transfer to Storage: i. By default, scans will be saved in ‘My Documents’ under a folder called ‘My OneTouch Archive’. ii. The destination folder can be changed in the scan configuration properties. See step 6 for more information. iii. Note: If the folder is changed using the “Properties” button, it will be changed for all 5 scan buttons. 4. Select a File Type (see figure 3 step 4) a. In the upper right corner, select the desired file type. b. Right click on a file type to select advanced options. c. Commonly used file types are: • JPG – ideal for pictures; does not support multiple pages. • PDF – best for documents; supports multiple pages. • sPDF – or Searchable PDF, gives the ability to search for text within a scanned document. d. Note: The selected destination application determines which file types are available (e.g. Paint can only open BMP and JPG files).

OneTouch 4.0 Quick Start Guide Cont’d 5. Select a Scan Configuration from the list on the right (see figure 4 step 1) 6. To customize the scan settings a. Option 1: Modify an existing configuration. i. Select a configuration from the list on the right. (see figure 4 step 1) ii. Click the ‘Edit’ button. (see figure 4 step 3) iii. To the far right of the configuration’s name, click on the ‘lock’ to change it into a ‘key’. (see figure 5 step 1) b. Option 2: Create a new configuration. i. Click on the ‘New’ button. (see figure 4 step 2) c. Use the tabs to access the various settings. (see figure 5 step 2) i. Storage Options – If ‘Transfer to Storage’ is the destination, use this tab to configure where the scan is saved. (see figure 6) ii. For information about the different settings, see the user guide. d. Common scan settings are: i. Text Document – Black and White at 200 – 300 dpi. ii. Document with Images – Grayscale at 200 – 300 dpi. iii. Pictures – Color at 300 – 400 dpi.

7. Click OK to close the OneTouch 4.0 properties. Scanning With OneTouch 1. Load the paper by placing the document on the scanner glass face down with the corner aligned to the reference mark. (see figure 7) 2. Start the scan using one of the following a. To start the scan from the scanner (see figure 1) i. Press the button on the scanner. b. To start the scan from the computer (see figure 2) i. Click on the OneTouch icon in the system tray (by the Windows clock) to bring up the OneTouch panel. ii. Click on the desired button to start the scan.

FAQ Q1: How do I unlock a configuration? A1: In the ‘Scan Configuration Properties’ window, click on the “Scan Settings” tab then click on the lock to the far right of the configuration’s name. See step 6a. Q2: How do I scan to multiple folders with Transfer to Storage? When I change the folder for one button, it changes it for all the buttons. A2: If you change the folder using the “Properties” button, it will change it for ALL buttons. To set a different location for each button, use the scan configuration properties. See step 6. Q3: When PaperPort is selected as my destination and I click on ‘Properties’, the folder I want to scan to is not listed.

A3: Before a folder will be listed in the properties for PaperPort, it must be added to PaperPort first. Open PaperPort then go to “Tools” and “Folder Manager” (or “PaperPort Folders”) and add the folder. Q4: How do I scan slides or negatives using OneTouch? A4: To scan slides, select ‘Configure Before Scan’ as your configuration (see figure 4 step 3) or scan in another program like PaperPort or Paint Shop. Once the TWAIN interface opens, select ‘Scan 35mm Using’ or ‘Scan Negative Using’ from the drop-down menu in the upper left. Page 2
