Online Training Knight Sky has partnered with the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) to offer an integrated training program to its customers. The training program includes both custom and GVF catalog courses. The GVF program has been endorsed by the international industry and was expanded in 2006 with extensive online, award-winning interactive content developed by SatProf, Inc. This popular SATCOM Professional Certification Program includes three levels of certification for fixed VSAT professional installers, field technicians, and engineers.
Basic Training
• Assembly of a basic VSAT • Attaching connector • Determining azimuth, elevation & polarization angles • Finding satellite using meter • Pointing antenna accurately enough to prevent Adjacent Satellite Interference • Accurately adjusting for cross-polarization • Decommissioning of satellite
Advanced Training – Fundamentals
• General understanding of orbits, transponders, footprints, waves & rain fade • TDM, TDMA & SCPC • Signals & noise, antennas, link budget concepts • Linear & circular polarization • VSAT hardware overview • IP networking basics • Mobile VSAT concepts • Gain/loss, levels, dB, dBm & compression • C/N & Eb/No concepts
Advanced Training – Practical • • • • • • • •
Antenna mount & links VSAT hardware details Using a spectrum analyzer Site survey issues Connector and cable types & grounding, Point-of-entry techniques Weatherproofing & safety issues General VSAT troubleshooting
Advanced Training – Specialization
• iDirect, Hughes and Gilat satellite systems o Network operations o Modem models – features, and connections o Installing and activating typical VSAT o Equipment-specific maintenance and troubleshooting
Hands-on Training
Knight Sky also offers hands-on training at its Maryland headquarters or at a customer site • Assemble a VSAT • Pre-set elevation and accurately pre-set feed pol angle • Find designated satellite – peak azimuth and elevation with beam balance method • Terminate a cable with an F connector and weather-seal it
