Lessons Learned and Recommendations ▪ An installation of OpenStack with any complexity is quite manual.
Boot Strap the Fuel node and install an OS (We used Centos 6.5) ▪ Use SSH to access the system and Install Fuel ▪ Allow Fuel to function as the DHCP/PXE and use it to deploy the cluster. ▪
▪ Management and remote access
If you aren’t currently using IPMI for out-of-band management, it is time to start ▪ DHCP, PXE, & Remote Management are essential ▪ OCP nodes do not have VGA, consider a Video card during initial trials ▪
▪ Networking
Very little documentation on vendor specific switch configurations for OpenStack ▪ A default configuration leveraging VLAN 1 on all ports will get basic functionality up ▪ Fuel node designates the first NIC to request a DHCP address for all ADMIN communications ▪

Deliverables and Next items ▪ White Paper detailing the reference architecture, configuration tips and
recommendations
▪ General Testing
Icehouse Release ▪ Juno Release ▪ Integration of Ceph ▪ Advanced workload benchmarking ▪
▪ Additional Test Topics
Datacenter management as a service (Tuskar) ▪ Hadoop on OpenStack (Savanna) ▪ Clustering (Cassandra) ▪
▪ Expanded Cluster Size
Full Rack ▪ Multi Rack ▪
