Open for your ideas. System solutions for all areas. For more than 20 years, R. STAHL HMI Systems GmbH as part of the R. STAHL Technology Group has specialized in the development and production of operating and monitoring systems. Since our foundation we have been the only company worldwide covering the whole range of products in this area. We provide equipment both for installation in hazardous areas (Exicom) as well as industrial areas (ProVicom). First and foremost we consider ourselves to be a provider of solutions. We make sure that our products can be easily integrated into overall processes – particularly within integrated systems – by means of perfect coordination of all interfaces. Our product series with clearly outlined, separate areas of application and performance classes, as well as our individual service and support are proof of our consistent customer orientation. Naturally, our devices comply with the strictest safety rules, are certified according to international standards and can thus be installed world-wide. Our new range of Open HMI systems consists of industrial panel PCs with a number of international certificates (including for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22). They can be directly connected to hazardous areas. Any software can be installed on these systems. They may also be used as Thin Clients in a Remote Terminal environment.
As a standard, all Open HMIs are equipped with a touch screen and several interfaces and are based on the powerful Pentium / Celeron M technology (up to 1.6 GHz clock frequency), making them the most powerful devices on the market. Their modular structure makes changes and maintenance easy.

Self-evident: The advantages of the Open HMI systems. Operating systems at your choice The following operating systems are completely pre-installed (ready to run): • Windows XP embedded • Windows XP professional • Linux (available on request) Windows XP embedded Our version of XP is essentially an XP professional, but with certain advantages: • Full licence, activation therefore not necessary • A short boot-time of only 40 seconds • Boot partition with optimum write protection (manipulation by viruses or worms impossible) • Size-optimized image (suitable for flash disks) • Upgradeable image (security patches can be loaded when required and by incorporating authorizations)
Integrated backup and recovery concept As an option, we can supply a factory image on a USB drive (also intrinsically safe), with which you can restore a system to its factory image within minutes. This USB drive also contains a backup software with which you can save various images in addition to the factory image. Thus, new devices can be up and running in practically no time at all. Mouse pointer emulation and soft keyboard The devices can be fully operated without an additional keyboard. A mouse driver supporting both left and right mouse click functions and a soft keyboard pre-installed for 150 different language layouts are integrated and available at the Windows log in.

Robust design, suitable even for marine application The devices have been designed for rough, industrial environments and are also DNV-certified for ship installation.
Pentium M technology These scaleable processors offer highest performance with lowest energy consumption. They are much faster than other Pentium or Celeron derivatives; compared to some they also have a higher clock rate.
A long life time and maintenance free • No mechanical parts that could wear out • No rotating parts (no fan, flash disk) • hard disk option has exchangeable hard drive in the junction box • Use of industrial grade semiconductors • Special cooling system via the front part Robust and service friendly design • Front side from aluminum and polyester (IP66) • Stainless steel housing (IP65 from the back) • Light weight (only 22.5 Kg/49.6 lbs for ET-456/ MT-456) • Internal modular design (CPU modul, power supply modul and other can be exchanged on site) Brilliant TFT displays with touch screens The state-of-the-art displays of our systems are also suitable for installation in hazardous areas: • Brilliant TFT displays • Wide display angles • Sharp contrast • Long service life of 50,000 h • High luminescence and high brightness displays, also suitable for operation in direct sunlight • All devices have touch screens (touch screen driver supports all mouse functions and contains on-screen keyboards)

No ventilator or rotating parts As a standard, the devices are equipped with extremely long-life flash disks without ventilators. The devices can therefore be installed in a rough, industrial environment. Ideal for outdoor installation The devices can be installed in hazardous areas without any additional, special housings. For outdoor installation under extreme conditions we can supply housings with integrated heaters, sun-roofs and protective covers. Open communication As a standard, all devices are equipped with Ethernet, USB and serial interfaces. As options, WLAN, Bluetooth and Profibus interfaces are also available. All interfaces are suitable for hazardous areas. Industrial Ethernet The devices either have twisted pair or optical fiber. With optical fiber, you can set up an intrinsically safe 100 MBit connection for distances of up to 2km. The twisted pair option is Ex-e protected (increased safety) and can cover distances of up to 100m, using CAT5e cables at 10/100MBit for Exicom and ProVicom.

Once purchased, the devices merely need to be customized and, where necessary, have licences entered. Operating systems at your choice Windows XP embedded is perfectly configured for industrial application. It is available in several multi-language installations. Windows XP professional is available in English or German. In the case of Linux we need the distribution type and release, so please contact us. Furthermore, our systems are fitted with a perfectly customized and protected BIOS.
We see our products as part of an overall solution, reached after thorough consultation, based on your requirements and tailored to meet your needs and fit your processes. Our devices have operating systems and applications available for order, such as WIN CC flexible, RSView, In Touch (registered trademarks of Siemens, Rockwell and Wonderware) and others fully pre-installed.
Tools All Windows systems are equipped with a number of useful tools, enabling you to make full use of all functions of our devices. • Setup Wizzard for easy system startup and customization • System partition protection for protection settings and administration • Softkeyboard with 150 language layout (fully integrated into the language function of Windows)

Ready for all combinations: The Open HMI components. Visualization with various displays You can choose between four different fronts with screen sizes ranging from 26 cm (10,4“) to 48 cm (19“). ET-406 and MT-406 have an alphanumeric keyboard; the other models are equipped with function keys.

Operation and data input All models have a touch screen supporting all operation, mouse pointer emulation and data input functions . They can therefore be used without any additional keyboards or mouse pointers. As accessories we provide pointer tools, joysticks and trackballs, all of which can also be combined with industrial keyboards. The following language layouts are available: German (QWERTZ), US (QWERTY) and French (AZERTY). The joystick can be equipped with a USB interface; the trackball with USB and PS/2 interface.
