GENERAL INTRODUCTION The modern and functional VEDO system offers the best possible response to the technical and performancerelated demands of modern security systems. This manual provides information regarding the day-to-day use of the VEDO system. Please refer to the Glossary if you wish to check the meaning of the terms used in this manual.
USING THE KEYPAD The LCD keypad allows an authorised user to enable and disable the system, to check the system status and manage its general features, to check the event log history and to perform functional tests. A more complete version of the User manual for Art. VEDOLCD, VEDOLCDPROX is available for download from www. comelitgroup.com.

System status display
When a 6-digit user code is entered, the code is validated on the sixth digit; if the user is authorised, the name associated with that user appears on the first line.
User 1 UUUUUUUU Once a valid user code has been entered, the system switches to 'System Status Display' mode, where the user can view the status of the Areas on the second line of the display (as described in "Area status display" see page 8) and the system status is indicated on the LEDs (as described in "Key to the indicator LEDs" see page 7). The system will remain in System Status Display mode for the period of time set by the installer during the programming phase; the factory setting is 120 seconds. If the time is set as unlimited, the code does not need to be entered in order to view the system status on the display and via the LEDs; it will always be visible. Until the time has elapsed, the standby screen appears as follows:
20:41 11-11-2015 UUUUUUUU Pressing C again will return the screen to standby mode, with no indication of the current status of the areas (immediately hiding the information on display).

Partial activations P1 and P2 To activate partial scenario P1 or P2: 1. Enter the code then press the key associated with the desired scenario. The screen in the figure illustrates what happens after P1 is pressed (the same thing will happen for P2).
SCENARIO ↵ ↓ Scenario P1 2. Press ‘ENTER’ to confirm activation, or select a different scenario using the up and down arrow keys, then press ‘ENTER’. 3. The keypad shows confirmation message “SCENARIO EXECUTED”. IMPORTANT: the installer can program the P1 and P2 keys to activate scenarios other than partial 1 and 2, selecting other scenarios from the 16 programmable options.
Using the function keys The function keys F1/F2/F3/F4 can be used to perform various actions, such as: total activation, total deactivation, reset alarms, stop alarms. To use them: 1. Enter the 6-digit code. 2. Press the function key associated with the desired action. 3. At this point the activation or command confirmation screen will appear. When using the function keys, you do not need to press 'ENTER' to confirm the action after pressing the function key itself. IMPORTANT: to change the action associated with the key, contact your installer.
Quick activation Quick activation is used to activate the system without entering the user code. This type of activation is available for the following keys: • ON: total activation • P1, P2, F1, F2, F3, F4 : to perform the action associated with the key To use it: press and hold the key corresponding to the desired action for 2 seconds. IMPORTANT: these activations which do not require the user code are applied to all areas for which the keypad is enabled. IMPORTANT: the use of quick keys can be enabled or disabled by the installer during programming.
Activation with zones open If zones are open during system activation, before confirming the action the keypad will display:
OPENED ZONES! ↵ FORCE? ↓ Different methods can be used to continue with activation: A. (recommended option) Cancel the operation by pressing 'C', close the open zone and retry activation. B. Force activation by pressing "ENTER". This method forces activation, generating a fault condition 10
for the open zones (to be used only when the zone cannot be closed, because it reduces the security level of the system). C. Exclude the zone. This method allows you to exclude the open zones from activation (to be used only when the zone cannot be closed, because it reduces the security level of the system). To exclude opened zones, proceed as follows: √√ From the following screen:
OPENED ZONES! ↵ FORCE? ↓ 1. Press the arrow
to display the open zones
Kitchen Window EXCLUDE?
↓
2. To confirm exclusion of the zone you are viewing, press ‘ENTER’. 3. For activation to take place, ensure all open zones are excluded, then repeat the process described in steps 1 and 2 for all open zones. 4. After the exclusion procedure has been completed for all open zones, the following screen will appear:
EXCLUDED ZONES! ENTER?
↓
5. Press ‘ENTER’ to activate, or press 'C' to cancel. 6. If the operation is completed successfully, an ‘I’ will appear in correspondence with the activated areas to indicate total activation of these areas. IMPORTANT: If an Exit time is set, the keypad will signal it by beeping (see "Buzzer" on page 8) for the duration of the Exit time period. If the exclusion procedure has not been performed for all open zones, the following screen will appear to indicate that activation has not been carried out.

to display all tampering.
TAMPER Zones Tamper
Alarm lock in progress There are two ways to lock an alarm in progress: A. Deactivate the system (with the system activated) (code +OFF) B. Send the ‘Stop alarms’ command. There are two ways of sending a 'Stop alarms' command: A. Enter the user code and then press and hold the 'prog' key for at least two seconds. B. Alternatively, enter the code to access the user menu; under the "Commands" option, press 'ENTER' when you reach the "STOP ALARMS" command. An alarm lock causes the outputs (sirens, etc.) to switch off and cuts off any calls which are in progress or in a queue. CAUTION: The STOP ALARMS procedure does not deactivate the system. If a system was activated, it will remain so; only outputs and telephone calls will be blocked for that specific alarm.
User not recognised If an invalid code is entered, the user unknown message will appear:
USER UNKNOWN
If 3 attempts at entering an invalid code are made, the keypad will be locked for two minutes.
20:41 09-11-2015 KEYPAD LOCKED IMPORTANT: the "user not recognised" keypad lock can be disabled, plus the number of attempts and the lock time can also be changed by the installer during programming.
Robbery Code A robbery code is associated with every user code. The robbery code is the user code + 1. Example: user code 111111, the corresponding robbery code is 111112. Code 119999, robbery code = 120000. Code 123459, robbery code = 123460. It is not possible to register a user code corresponding to an existing user code + 1, since this new code corresponds to the robbery code of the existing user. Use of the robbery code triggers the configured calls without requiring activation/deactivation action, plus the keypad will not indicate that calls are being made. This code must only be used in the event of deactivation under duress (burglar present). 12

The user menu consists of a certain number of options, divided into sub-menus. IMPORTANT: When the product leaves the factory, only User 1 is available and enabled with the code 111111. Use the keys to move about in the menu and the key to pass to the next level or to confirm the entry of a new data item. Press C to return to the previous menu. N.B.: user menu presentation is dynamic. Menu options are only displayed if the user logged in to the control panel possesses the required authorisation. The menu tree is shown in full below.
Modifying a numerical value
To modify a numerical value, type in the desired value, following the format shown on the display, omitting non-numerical characters, but filling in all the numerical characters of the proposed format. e.g. date DD-MM-YY must be entered as DDMMYY; 2 September 2015 will become 020915, without dashes but with a zero at the beginning to fill the tens digit for the days. e.g. Setpoint 1.14 is entered as 114, without the decimal point.
Modifying an alphanumerical value
Once you have selected the string you wish to change (for example, the description of a zone) the first character available for editing will start to flash. At this point characters can be entered or replaced using the same technique as used in mobile telephones with a pushbutton keypad. Press the same key several times to change the suggested character in accordance with a set sequence. The table below shows the sequence of characters available for each key. Press the C key when the first character is flashing to exit the string without saving any changes. To move around within the string, use the right and left navigation keys. Pressing the C key while inside the string deletes the character to the left of the flashing character. The new character, when necessary, will be entered to the left of the flashing character. Press Confirm to save the changes. The table below lists the character sequence for each key.

USING DIGITAL KEYS (RFID) The main control unit functions can be carried out quickly and easily using the electronic key. The digital keys (RFID) can be used with the following control unit command channels:
• Safekey keypad with RFID reader (Art. VEDOLCDPROX) • RFID Reader (Art. VEDORF)
Before it can be used, a digital key must be associated with a user, who will then use it to log on to the control unit and carry out the main functions. One user can be assigned several digital keys belonging to the same system. The same digital key can be used on different systems at the same time.
Using digital keys on the keypad Area activation To perform a total activation, simply pass a key over the sensing area of the reader while the system areas are deactivated. The reader will beep as soon as the key has been read; remove the key after this sound. A beep after removal confirms successful activation. IMPORTANT: to perform total activation the key should not be held in front of the sensing area for longer than two seconds, as this could cause cycle mode (described below) to be enabled.
Activation with open zones / faults present / tampering present Behaviour is the same as described previously, except that the open zones screen is shown after the key is passed over. The procedure described previously for the keypad and for the Vedo Touch also applies in this case.
Area deactivation To carry out a total deactivation place a key over the sensing area of the reader, while the system areas are activated. The reader will beep as soon as the key has been read; remove the key after this sound. A beep after removal confirms successful deactivation. IMPORTANT: for total activation, the key should not be held in front of the sensing area for longer than two seconds, as this could cause cycle mode (described below) to be enabled.
65
Using cycle mode Cycle mode can be used to select the desired action via a digital key, without pressing buttons or entering codes. The cycle actions set as default are: • • • •
Action 1: Full activation Action 2: Scenario P1 Action 3: Scenario P2 Action 4: Scenario P1+P2
IMPORTANT: The actions associated with the cycle can be changed by the installer during system programming. To enter cycle mode hold the key over the sensing area for at least two seconds. The reader beeps once when it detects the key; after the key has been held in the sensing area for at least two seconds it will beep a second time. At this point remove the key; the following screen will appear on the display:
CYCLE ACTIVE The actions associated with the cycle mode are shown in sequence on the second line, to allow selection of the desired option. To select the desired action simply position the key back in the reading zone when that action appears. The keypad will show the confirmation screen when the action has been executed. Example: if you want to perform a Partial 1 activation you need to wait for the screen:
CYCLE ACTIVE Scenario P1 During the cycle, the keypad indicates a change of action - available for selection and shown on the second line - with a beep.
Alarm lock in progress There are two ways to lock an alarm in progress: A. Deactivate the system (with the system activated) B. Send the ‘Stop alarms’ command To send a ‘Stop alarms’ command, you can use the RFID key by passing it over the sensing area, or you can follow the keypad procedures described previously.
Keys not valid For invalid keys, the situation is the same as when incorrect codes are entered on the keypad. If an invalid key is detected, the following message is displayed:
KEY NOT VALID If an invalid key is detected 3 times, the keypad will be locked for two minutes.
20:41 09-11-2015 KEYPAD LOCKED IMPORTANT: the "key not valid" keypad lock can be disabled, plus the number of attempts and the lock time can also be changed by the installer during programming.
66
Using the RFID reader The RFID key reader can be used to operate the system using digital keys. The procedures which can be carried out from the reader are: • Total activation • Deactivation • Scenario activation (via cycle) IMPORTANT: procedures which can be carried out via a key are linked to the authorisation levels of the user to which the key is associated. The procedures are carried out in areas for which the reader and the user associated with the key are authorised.
RFID reader indications
In standby the RFID reader does not show the system status; to display the LEDs you need to pass a key over the sensing area. This mode lasts for a period of time set by the installer during the programming phase; the default value is 120 seconds. If the time is set as unlimited, the key does not need to be used in order to view the system status via the LEDs; it will always be visible. IMPORTANT: if the installer has configured the reader with unlimited 'system status display' time, conformity with standard EN 50131-1 will be lost. All procedures described below are intended for unlimited display time. For use with limited time, pass the key an extra time before each procedure.
Key to the indicator LEDs
The reader has 4 indicator LEDs, the meaning of which varies according to reader status: • reader in standby (no cycle in progress): the LEDs indicate the operating status of the areas enabled on the reader • the LEDs light up in sequence to provide users with an indication of which scenarios are available, allowing them to make a choice • during key presentation The cycle actions associated with the LEDs by default are: • Red LED: Full activation • Yellow LED: Scenario P1 • Blue LED: Scenario P2 • Green LED: Scenario P1+P2 IMPORTANT: The actions associated with the LEDs can be changed by the installer during system programming.

Buzzer
The buzzer integrated into the reader beeps to signal successful reading of an RFID key, and confirms the procedures completed using the key.
68
Procedures using the RFID reader Area activation To carry out a total activation simply pass a key over the sensing area of the reader, while the system areas are deactivated. »» The reader will beep as soon as the key has been read; remove the key after this sound. A beep after removal signals successful activation. IMPORTANT: for total activation, the key should not be held in front of the sensing area for longer than two seconds, as this could cause cycle mode (described below) to be enabled.
Area activation with zones open Using the reader, activation with open zones is only permitted if enabled by the installer during programming; in this case activation will always be executed. If the reader from which you are working is not enabled for forced activation and you try to carry out an activation, after the key has been removed the reader will beep quickly twice to indicate that activation has not taken place.
Area deactivation To carry out a total deactivation place a key over the sensing area of the reader, while the system areas are activated. »» The reader will beep as soon as the key has been read; remove the key after this sound. A beep after removal signals successful deactivation. IMPORTANT: for total activation the key should not be held in front of the sensing area for longer than two seconds, as this causes cycle mode (described below) to be enabled.
Using cycle mode Cycle mode can be used to select the desired action via the reader, by selecting the LED associated with the action. To enter cycle mode hold the key over the sensing area for at least two seconds. The reader beeps once when it detects the key; after the key has been held in the sensing area for at least two seconds it will beep a second time. At this point remove the key and the LEDs will begin to light up in sequence: red, yellow, blue, green. Each LED will remain lit for 3 seconds and passage from one LED to the next is signalled by a beep. To select the desired scenario, simply hold the key in position again when the corresponding LED is lit. After the scenario is selected the reader will beep to confirm.
Alarm lock in progress There are two ways to lock an alarm in progress: • System ON: deactivate the system • System OFF: send the ‘Stop alarms’ command by passing a valid key over the sensing area of the reader.
Keys not valid For invalid keys, the situation is the same as when incorrect codes are entered on the keypad. If an invalid key is detected 3 times, the reader will be locked for two minutes. The four LEDs flash simultaneously to signal this lock (all 4 lit, all 4 off). IMPORTANT: IMPORTANT: the "key not valid" reader lock can be disabled, plus the number of attempts and the lock time can also be changed by the installer during programming.

USING THE RADIO CONTROL The main system functions can be managed remotely (within range of the control unit receiver) using the radio controls as described in this paragraph. The radio control has 4 buttons which can be used to carry out the desired action, plus 3 indicator LEDs.
LED 1 LED 3
LED 2
Radio control indications The radio control has three indicator LEDs, one at the top and two underneath buttons 2 and 3 respectively, as illustrated in the figure. The indications described in the table all consist of a single flash. LED 1
Description One flash - Red
Command not implemented: radio control out of range of control unit receiver
One flash - red, then one green
Command being processed by the control unit. (Not yet executed).
2
One flash - red
Command not executed (command processed but not executed)
3
One flash - red
Action executed (confirms execution of all actions)
Actions via radio control To operate the system using the radio control, press the key corresponding to the action you wish to carry out. The actions configured as default are: • • • •
Key 1: Deactivation Key 2: Full activation Key 3: Partial 1 Key 4: Medical emergency alarm
IMPORTANT: The actions associated with the buttons can be changed by the installer during system programming.
Exhausted battery The control unit signals an exhausted battery in a radio control through the illumination of the yellow LED (number 2), while showing the following message on the display of the supervisor (keypad/Vedo Touch):
Fault: RadioCntrlBatt.
Alarm lock in progress To stop an alarm in progress from a radio control, press the deactivation button (regardless of whether the system is activated or deactivated); this will deactivate the system and stop the alarm. 70
USING REMOTE COMMUNICATIONS IMPORTANT: for management of both signaller and voice guide telephone calls, multi-frequency (DTMF) telephone equipment is required.
Telephone signaller When configured appropriately the signaller can send event alerts (alarm, tampering, fault, etc.) as follows: • • • •
Telephone calls SMS (GSM module required) Email MMS (GSM module required)
Telephone calls When the user receives a telephone call from the signaller, he/she will hear a voice recording giving instructions on how to listen to the message. To be specific, you will hear: "Press 1 to listen to the alarm message" Once button '1' is pressed you will hear the message relating to the event, followed by instructions for ending the call. The instructions for ending the call are: "Press # to end the call", "Press * to end all calls" Press * to end the call in progress; all queued calls will not take place. IMPORTANT: if voice message expansion is not present, the control unit will make the call but instead of the voice message an alert tone will sound. In this case you do not need to press button '1' to listen to the alert.
SMS When the user receives an SMS it will contain an indication of the event which has occurred, or a customised message entered by the installer.
Email When the user receives an email it will contain an indication of the event which has occurred, or a customised message entered by the installer.
MMS The signaller sends an MMS containing images of a zone in alarm mode. The MMS will consist of a description of the zone in alarm, plus the images acquired by the camera associated with the zone. An example of the description: "Zone burglar alarm - Hall way zone (7)". IMPORTANT: The number of images can be configured by the installer to a value between 1 and 4. It is possible to select screen capture on pre-alarm*. *The pre-alarm images will only be captured if the "pre-alarm" function has been assigned to the camera. The number of images captured in the pre-alarm stage will depend on the length of the pre-alarm time period; once the pre-alarm period has expired images will be captured during the course of the alarm until the maximum number of images, set during the programming stage, is reached. For example, if the pre-alarm is set to the maximum value, the 4 images shown will all be pre-alarm images, whereas if the pre-alarm time i set zero, then all the images will be captured during the alarm.

Glossary Area: This is a group of zones allowing the system to be divided into independent subsystems, each controlled with its own times, codes, keys, etc. Zone: The Alarm zone is a single wired input, to which a single environmental control device generally belongs. Partial exclusion: Exclusion of a group of zones when the system is activated. This creates a non-covered part, in which you can move around without causing an alarm, even when the system is activated. Tamper: a mechanism which protects against the opening of devices (control unit, siren and sensors) by activating a 24-hour alarm in the event of tampering. Chime: a long note emitted by the keypad which can be enabled at the user's discretion to indicate - when the system is disabled - that someone has entered a specific zone. The "Chime" tone can be used, for example, to indicate a customer entering a shop. Fault indication: the system is capable of monitoring all faults or malfunctions (of the system or individual zones), so as to provide an efficient assistance and maintenance service. Entrance/Exit delay time: the system sets an entrance/exit delay time which allows the user to complete the necessary deactivation/activation steps without the alarm being activated. User code: a six-digit code which allows the user to operate the system and send commands. Events Memory: a list of the events which occur in the system can be displayed on the LCD keypad or received by the technician via the configuration software. Quick activation: can be used to ACTIVATE the system quickly, without entering the user code. Not ready for activation: there are situations preventing activation without forcing, such as open zones or the presence of faults/tampering.
