Operation and installation instructions no. 90728 Central ventilation with heat recovery unit KWL-Center 1200 It is important for safety reasons, that you read and observe this instruction fully before proceeding.
RECEIPT Please check delivery immediately on receipt for accuracy and damage, please notifiy carrier immediately. In case of delayed notification, any possible claim may be void.
isolation must be provided to reduce heat losses. Fresh air should be taken into primary rooms, extraction takes place in secondary rooms. To regulate the whole system use adjustable valves (HELIOS-valves). The opening for the kitchen extract needs a filter. A kitchen hood must not be connected up (danger of grease build-up). There must be enough air flow facilities (e.g. door grilles) within the building to guarantee air flow between intake rooms and extract rooms. Fire and building regulations must be observed.
STORAGE When storing for a prolonged time the following steps are to be taken to avoid damaging influences: protection by dry air and dustproof packing (plastic bags with drying agent and moisture indicators). The storage area must be free of water, vibration and temperature variations. When storing for several years or non rotation of motor an inspection of the bearings with possible relubrication and an installation inspection in accordance with VDE 0530 are absolutely necessary before starting operation. Damages due to improper storage, transportation or installation are not liable for warranty.
– Thermal humidistat This thermal humidistat works all-electronic and has a sensor which is installed in the heat exchanger to measure the degree of humidity. Is the degree of humidity low, the thermal humidistat will switch off the function of the frost protection and the unit continues its normal work. In addition, the thermal humidistat contains an electronic thermostat, which controls the function of the frost protection, when there is a higher degree of humidity. The sensor is installed in the “cold corner“ and thus measures the temperature correctly in a optimum position. The components are provided with a voltage of 24 V.
OPERATION / USE The unit is designed for the central ventilation of residential and commercial used rooms. The unit is equipped with a heat recovery battery. It must not be connected to kitchen hoods or laboratory extract fans. The standard equipment allows a working temperature range from -20°C up to 40°C. For operation under difficult conditions, e.g. high humidity, long periods of standstill, high air pollution or through climatic (e.g. operating temperature over 40°C), technical or electronic influences other than standard operations may not be suitable. For this reason please enquire and obtain operation release. A release by a third party is not valid.
– Electrical connections (pic. 5) Electrical connection may only be carried out by a qualified person. All work only in disconnected state. An appliance is required for cut off from the mains with a minimum of 3 mm contact opening of each pole. All relevant safety and installation regulations (for example DIN VDE 0100) as well as TAB of EVK's are to be adhered. Electrical connections are to be made according to wiring diagram.
MODE OF ACTION In the heat exchanger the cold outside air and the warm extracted air "crosses over " without touching. Through this method approx. 70% of the energy of the warm air is tranfered to the incoming air. Additionally a thermostat controlled heating element warms up the inlet air (in extreme cold weather conditions) to the required temperature. The intake air is directed to the primary rooms, where intake air is required, through pipes and valves. The used air is extracted from the bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. It flows back to the fan via the ducting systems, transfering heat before being released into the open air. PERFORMANCE DATA To achieve the given performance, the unit must be correctly installed. Varying from the design and/or by bad construction and also by incorrect operation can lead to a reduction in the discharge capacity. Noise figures are stated as sound power levels LWA in dB(A) (conforms to DIN 44635 T.1). Sound pressure levels LPA depend on room specific attitudes. INSTALLATION-ASSEMBLY (pic. 2) The KWLC 1200 is to install vertical. As an "undercover" we recommend plaster of chipboard on a secure mineral wool board (approx. 70 x 190 cm). The board must be even. The KWLC has differently high consoles so that an incline arises in direction of the condensate waterflow. The mounting of the same should use the shortest possible pipework and should be easy to connect up. Tight bends can lead to a high pressure loss and flow noise. The ductwork must not be bent. A secure and tight connection of the ductwork has to be assured. For maintenance and installation work, the unit must be reachable. Before installation, take out summer-heat exchanger and operating switch from the unit. It must be checked that the installed unit has a drop in the direction of the condensate water flow. – Condensation Run-Off The condensation spout is to be connected to the water run off by means of a flexible pipe of 15mm diameter. If the same is not in a room which is heated, it must be isolated. A copper drain trap is to be provided. It must have a minimum height of 100 mm, otherwise water could be sucked back through the fan. To avoid an odor, fill in water into the drain trap before putting into operation. The regulations of the water board and other legislation must be observed. – Air ducting, Ventilation circuit When designing the ductwork, try to achieve the shortest possible runs. To avoid the collecting of dirt, pressure loss and noise, use smooth pipes (plastic or rigid ducting). For main pipes (outside air, extract air, inlet air, discharge collection) a diameter 315 mm has to be used, for side pipes an appropriate reduction of the diameter. To reduce condensation in the extract pipes, the ducting has to be isolated where appropriate. Also if inlet and extract ductwork cross unheated rooms
TECHNICAL DATA voltage 3~, 400 V, 50 Hz current 16 A connecting cable 5 x 2,5 mm2 dimensions (LxWxH) 1700 x 634 x 1055 mm condensate waterflow outside ∅15mm, spigot ∅ 315 mm motor power 670 W heater power 6 kW OPERATION - ADJUSTMENT The KWLC is controlled with an operator device with 2 switches. The 3 speed step switch controls the fan speed. Speed step 1 Basic air flow, for less intake air needs Speed step 2 Normal air flow Speed step 3 Full R.P.M., for maximum intake air needs The switch control light operates when the heating coil is on. Speed step 2 (or air flow volume) of the unit can be adjusted to the size of the rooms to be ventilated. All servicing when electrically isolated. Therefore the electric connection room (10) of the unit has to be opend. Therefore open up the terminal box of the unit and change the marked speed step 2 wire at the transformer in the unit according the wiring diagram. Attention: For good room conditions and to reduce condensation water damages, the unit should not be completely switched off, except when servicing / maintenance or by breakdown. – Regulating the electric heater battery The electric heater battery is controlled by a thermostat (1) on the KWLC and by the on/off switch (S2) on the operator device. With the thermostat the desired temperature of the intake air is adjusted in intake air spigot. The thermostat is factory set at 15° C. 1) On/Off switch at operator device 15 set to „Ein“: If the temperature of the intake air drops in the intake air spigot under the adjusted temperature at the thermostat the electric heater battery is switched in automatically. 2) On/Off switch at operator device is set to „Aus“: The electric heater battery remains turned off even if the temperature of the intake air drops under the adjusted temperature at the thermostat in the intake air spigot. Attention: The temperature sensor is located in the intake spigot. When intake ductwork are laid through cold areas, heat loss on the way to the valve must be considered. A control light in the 3 step switch indicates use of the heater battery (7). The heater is protected against overheating by a thermal overload thermostat. It switches off automatically when the temperature of 55° C has been reached and restarts after cooling. As an additional safety control, a second thermostat switches off the whole unit, if a temperature of 80° C is exceeded. The thermostat can be manually re-set by pressing the red push button, which is accessible by removing
Operation and installation instructions no. 90728 Central ventilation with heat recovery unit KWL-Center 1200 the red push button, which is accessible has to be investigated and remedial action is to be taken – Frost Protection of the Heat Exchanger Unit A thermal humidistat avoids ice build up on the heat exchanger unit of the KWLC. This sensor controls the intake air fan so that ice cannot build up. Warm air e.g. from the bathroom contains high humidity and therefore it is very likely that condensation occurs. Therefore the temperature in the heat exchanger must not drop too low that water freezes in it. The thermal hunidistat controls the hunidity of the air. In addition he measures the temperature of the heat exchanger unit. In case of frost danger and high humidity in the heat exchanger the speed of the intake air fan is reduced and the bypass flap opens simultaneously to the protection of the heat exchanger unit. The lower speed of the intake air fan as well as the open bypass flap remain unchanged until the heat exchander has warmed itself sufficiently. In case of frost danger und dry air in the heat exchanger the KWLC keeps its adjusted operating state ( no reduced output) – Summer Service (pic. 3) During the warmer months (apart from the heating period) it is not necessary to recover heat. If the temperature at the summer thermostat at the outside air spigot increases above the adjusted temperature (e.g. 17°C) the bypass flap will open and let the air flow through. Attention: The thermostat of the additional heating (1) and a possible separate room thermostat have to be set to "0" to avoid unnecessary waste of energy.

MAINTENANCE All servicing when electrically isolated. - Opening of doors (pic. 3) Open all claims (14). Then remove the door completely (12/13). Set the door back in reverse order. Attention: The unit has a door on both sides so that entry can be made through the side required. - Filter The unit comes with several filters: • Outside air/Extract air: fine filter F5 Ref.no. 0179 The outside and the extract pre filter are to be changed or cleaned at least every three months. The fine filter should be replaced at least after 1 year of use for hygienic reasons. When replacing the filter the correct air flow direction through the filter has to be observed. When the outside air is very dirty an air filter box (LFBR 315) should be fitted in the ductwork and the filter should be cleaned or replaced frequently. - Filter control (pic. 3) To control the filter automatically, two differential pressure switches are connected to the KWLC. Is the filter dirty, the control lamp of the filter at the operator device will light up. - Fans The fans are to be maintained and cleaned every 12 months at least. For cleaning use a small brush and an oil free cleaning fluid. Make sure that no water gets into the motor. Fan must be completely dry before re-mounting. To dismantle the fan, unplug the electrical plug-socket facility (pic.3)
