OPERATION MANUAL INDUCTION CERAMIC HOBS CI76 COD. 208176 - REV 4 - 07.07.2006 INDUCTION COOKING The induction cooking is a radical change on the traditional way of cooking. The heat is generated from directly in the cooking vessel and maintains a cold cooking surface. For this reason it presents many advantages when compared to other cooking methods. High speed cooking and frying. The efficiency is greater than other systems because there is no heat loss as you are warming the vessel directly and not the cooking surface. It is economic. It is proven that cooking with an induction hot plate dramatically reduces electrical consumption in comparison with other cooking methods. Cooking and security control. As soon as the control is used, the hob produces or suspends the electrical output. If a vessel is removed without previously switching off the hob, it will automatically stop the output of heat. If any combustible material; ie a rag, is left on the hob, it will not burn even if the cooking area is actived. This is because after using the hob, the glass surface retains only the remaining heat transmitted by the vessel. Cleaning. As the glass absorbs only a small part of the vessel heat, it relatively cool. This helps to avoid any foods that may spill from burning onto the surface. Although it is not entirely necessary, wait for the hob to completely cool to clean it. PROTECTIVE MEASURES FOR THE SURROUNDING CABINETRY This product complies with EU Directive 2002/96/EC. The crossed-out rubbish bin symbol seen on the appliance indicates that the appliance must be disposed of separately from other domestic refuse at the end of its useful life. This is required to assist the electrical controls should temperatures reach over 85°C, where upon the hob controls will automatically turn the appliance off until the temperature returns under the limit required. To ensure temperatures in the control area are maintained during operation the appliance’s cooling fan will start automatically. Ensure sufficient air flow in accordance with the diagram opposite including an escape area to the front of the cabinetry to a minimum of 4mm. This swill ensure that temperatures will not exceed 85 degree C and will protect the electronic control systems. If this installation is not followed the manufacturer and supplier warranty is void. Electrical connection The installer is responsible for the correct electrical connection and all local safety rule compliance. • The appliance must be installed by a qualified technician who knows the relevant security and assembling rules in force. In particular, local power institution rules must be observed. • Check that the voltage displayed in the appliance indicator plate corresponds to the voltage used in your house. The indicator plate is placed on the back side of the hob. • Grounding is compulsory according to the law. All the electric wires and grounding conductors should have the appropriate dimensions. • The electrical connection between the hob and a possible oven must be provided individually. In the case of a direct connection to the supply, it is necessary to install a mono-pole switch between the appliance and the supply with a minimal 3mm opening between the contacts. • The manufacturer/supplier is not responsible for any damages to persons or property caused by the non-observance of above installation rules. Before effecting the connection, make sure that: • The tap has the grounding and is in accordance to law. • The tap can bear the highest load of the machine, shown in the indicator placed on the appliance. • The charging voltage is included in the characteristics indicator. • The tap is plug-compatible with the appliance. If it is not, replace the tap or the plug. Do not use extensions or multiplexes. • The grounding wire (yellow/green coloured) is connected to the terminal board on the point indicated with the respective sign and is longer than any other conductor wires. • The cable must not undergo folding or compressions. • The cable must be periodically controlled and changed only by authorized technicians. • The manufacturer declines all responsibilities if these rules are not respected. 8 START AND USE Practical advise for the appliances use and for best performance: • Use flat bottom pots with elevated thickness to be sure that these perfectly adhere to the heating areas. • Use cooking vessels which are compatible with the induction principle (ferromagnetic material). It is recommended that you use enameled steel or special induction inox pots. To assure the compatibility of a vessel it is sufficient to check with a magnet. SUITABLE MATERIALS NOT SUITABLE MATERIALS Magnetic cast iron, enameled steel, magnetic stainless steel Copper, aluminum, cast iron, enameled glass, terracotta, steel, non magnetic stainless steel. • Use pots with a diameter big enough to cover the heating area completely. This will guarantee the exploitation of all available heat. • Make sure that the pot base is always dry and clean to ensure the correct contact. • Avoid using the same pots that may be used on gas burners. The gas burners heat concentration could deform the pot bottom which will degrade the adhesion to the hob. 9 START AND USE Switching on the applicance: Attention: The “Booster” function brings the power to 3000W for the Ø 220 and to 2800W for the Ø 190. This means that during the operation, the front areas will have the power of 600 W for that of Ø220 and 800 W for that of Ø 190. This is due to the appliance having two generators of 3600W. The hob switches on by selecting the n°5 sensor on the controls area. When this sensor is selected a sound is made. If it is the first time the appliance is switched on, the appliance lights up all of the displays on the control panel and switches off after 10 seconds. This puts into action the sensor n°6. Disconnect the key selecting the sensor. The heated areas switch on and all stay at “0” until a power level is selected. If this does not succeed in 10 seconds, the hob will automatically switch off. Key Function (lock) This function can be activated whether with the appliance is switched on or off. The purpose is to exclude the command sensors to avoid accidental changes. In case the sensor is activated when the appliance is functioning, all the power zones and the timer controls will be blocked. Ignition control will remain operative (n°5 of the picture above). If the key is selected when the appliance is switched off, the switchon/switch off sensor will be excluded (n°5). The commencement of the function is reported through a pilot light placed over the key symbol. When the light is switched on the key is activated, when it is switch off the key is not activated. Select the key (+) for the appropriate cooking area, which will position itself at level 1. The highest level achievable is 9. With the sensor (-) the power reduces until 0. If, with the 0 level selected, the sensor (-) is pushed, the power becomes level 9. Booster Function This function brings every power zone to the highest level (position 10) for a maximum period of 10 minutes. Passed this period the power returns to the level it was previously at. Timer Function The timer can be activated by pushing on the corresponding sensors (+) (-). Between 1 and 99 minutes can be selected, which can be modified at any time. To cancel the function, press on key (-) or simultaneously press on keys (+) and (-). With the timer on “00” push on (+) sensor to increase the minutes. By pressing on (-) sensor the timer will positioning itself on “99”, and fall until the sensor is released at the time needed. On the selected area display appears the letter “P”. This function can be excluded any time by reselecting the command zone “Booster”. The same will bring the power back to the one preselected with a confirming sound. This function can also be excluded by pressing the keys (+) or (-). In this case the power level will be immediately higher or lower than that selected before the connection of the “Booster” function. 10 START AND USE Timer running with cooking areas Switching off the Appliance You can use the timer on all cooking areas, however they can operate only one at a time. To make the cooking area function with the timer, operate as specified below: • Activate the timer. • Select one cooking area. A LED will light both the timer and the selected cooking area. • Within 10 seconds select the time to pre-set on the timer. If this does not happen, the area will automatically switch off. It is possible to use the timer with the cooking area power at “0“. Time alterations have to be made with the (+) and (-) sensors. To switch off the appliance it is necessary to push on n°5 sensor. When the hob is switched off a sound is made and an “H” symbol appears on the cooking areas, which indicates the afterheat or a possible failure. Display directions If the heating zone is switched on, the “0” symbol appears on the display. If the cooking is terminated and the area is already hot, the “0” and “H” symbols are alternatively visualized. If a power level between “1” and “9” or the Booster function is selected and a suited pot is not put on the cooking area, the sign starts flashing. If a suited pot is not put placed on the hob, the power level will return to “0” after 30 seconds are passed. If the pot is suitable, the power sign remains fixed in the display. When selecting the timer amount, the speed of the timer will increase as sensors are pushed for a longer time. When the timer on the cooking is finished, the timer starts flashing with “00” values on the display and a sound is made. This sound can be stopped by pushing one of the touch sensors or it stops automatically after a minute. The cooking area can also be switched off manually by pushing on the (+) and (-) sensors simultaneously or by bringing the (-) sensor to “0” position. Automatic switch-off. If, during the functioning, the power level is not changed the cooking areas automatically switches off after a time indicated in the table below for to safety reasons: POWER LEVEL MAXIMUN TIME OF FUNCTIONNING (HOURS) 1 10 2 5 3 4 4 4 5 3 6 3 7 2 8 2 9 1 P 10 (min) 11 CARE AND CLEANLINESS with a wet cloth. If the cooking zones are switched on and there is residual detergent still there, these could damage the ceramic. Never use vapour machines to clean. • The vapor can reach the electrical conductor components and cause it to short-circuit. Vapor pressure can also cause permanent damage to the surface of the appliance. The manufacturer/ supplier is not responsible of these damages. • For this reason, clean all impurities immediately so that they do not burn onto the surface. Make sure that the bottom of the cooking vessels are clean, dry and without grease before using them on the hob. • Do not use pointed objects on the appliance as these can damage washers between the ceramic surface, the frame and between frame and working surface. • Do not put metallic objects on the hob. • Clean the appliance regularly and always after use. • Do not use products with sands, alkali, acids or chlorides, oven spray, detergents used to clean dishwashers, steel wool, abrasive dampers or a hard bristle brush. Also, do not use dampers or other products which have abrasive detergent residuals because they could scratch the surface. • Before cleaning, wait until the hob has cooled. • Clean the hob with a special ceramic detergent and kitchen paper or with a smooth, wet cloth. • Always dry the appliance after cleaning it with a wet cloth to avoid the formation of calcareous deposits. • If an incorrect cleaning detergent is used, the surface may appear bleached or with permanent blue stains. • Use special detergent for ceramic cooktops and follow the manufacturers’ directions. • Eliminate all detergent from the cooking zones 12 PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS Afterheat For safety reasons this information is the most important: • If the hob is switched off, the zones which show the power are fixed on “H”. • if the hob is switched on, the zones which show the power display alternatively “H” and “0”. Listed below are some possible fault messages for which professional technical support is necessary: Cooking zone temperature sensor • Short-circuit: in the corresponding cooking zone, the symbols “F” and “1” are alternatively displayed. • Open circuit: in the corresponding cooking zone, the symbols “F” and “2” are alternatively displayed. Cooking zone without or with an inadequate cooking vessel: • If the selected level is “0”, this one is also shown in the indicator. • If it is different from “0”, it is also shown in the indicator, but it flashes. Power temperature sensor • Short-circuit: if the 2 elements controlled by the induction generator are in short-circuit, “F” and “3” are displayed alternatively. • Open circuit: if the 2 elements controlled by the induction generator have an open circuit, “F” and “4” are displayed alternatively. Automatic actions in case of failure • If there are failures on the temperature sensor and on the cooking zones power sensor, these are immediately switched off and the keys (+/-) are blocked. Communication loss • If the 2 elements controlled by the induction generator lost communications, “F” and “5” are displayed alternatively. • This happens also if there is loss of communication with the induction generator or overloading. Generator over current • If a cooking zone is selected for more than 30 seconds without a pot on it the zone will automatically switch off. • If the 2 elements controlled by the induction generator are overloaded, “F” and “9” are displayed alternatively. Generator overheating • If the 2 elements controlled by the induction generator are overheated, “POWER LEVEL” and “C” are displayed alternatively. 13 14 Warranty Porter&Charles products are designed and built to the highest standards.
