DESCRIPTION The OSD8600 is a flexible 9-bit digital video multiplexer offering very high performance. The basic unit supports four 6MHz video channels and two 400kbps data channels, one RS232 and the other RS422/RS485. These data channels can be one-way with the video or full duplex as an option. This can be extended by a 10/100Base T Ethernet interface. Transmission over singlemode fiber in either direction is via a laser light source operating at 1310nm or at 1550nm including the eight CWDM wavelengths between 1470 and 1610nm. Various transmitter power levels and receiver sensitivities are available, to provide cost effective operation over up to 100km. Operation is also optionally available over multimode fiber: in this case the forward path is at 1310nm and the reverse path is at 850nm. One fiber is normally employed: this is the most common requirement but OSD can also supply the unit to operate with two fibers as can be appropriate in some unusual system configurations.
