Pole Data Upgrade Utility Overview About the Pole Data Upgrade Osmose O-Calc® Pro Pole Data Upgrade allows you to convert O-Calc™ v3.x databases into O-Calc® Pro .pplx files. The tool will create a set of OCalc® Pro Pole (.pplx) files and mimic the folder structure found in the original C-Calc v3.x database. The new pole files can then be used in the OCalc® Pro application. Due to changes between O-Calc™ v3.x and Pro, after the conversion process has been successfully completed there may be manual updates required. When poles are converted to the O-Calc® Pro format there may be subtle changes to the pole model. For example, insulators are required in OCalc® Pro therefore, during the conversion process j-hook or bolt insulators are placed on the pole to support spans such as Comm or CATV. In general, these changes will not affect the calculated pole loading.
Installation The Pole Data Upgrade Utility is included as part of the standard O-Calc® Pro installation. It is found in the same folder as the O-Calc® Pro executable and can be accessed through Windows Explorer or the command line.

The logon account used to perform the conversion must have permission to read and write to the directories that contain the .mdb files and the specified target directory.
Microsoft Report Viewer 2010 (obtained from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads ) must be installed prior to installing the Osmose O-Calc® Pro and the Pole Data Upgrade Utility.
Microsoft Office 2010 Primary Interop Assemblies2010 (obtained from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads ) must be installed prior to installing the Osmose O-Calc® Pro and the Pole Data Upgrade Utility.

Working With the Pole Data Upgrade Utility Using the Pole Data Upgrade Utility In order to process poles created using O-Calc ™ 3.x with O-Calc® Pro, you must first convert the O-Calc™ v 3.x Database (.mdb) to O-Calc® Pro pole data files (.PPLX). A .PPLX file will be created for each pole found in the O-Calc™ 3.x database. The following section describes this process. Backing up the Database Back up your O-Calc™ 3.x database to a secure location before you convert the database. Complete the following steps to backup your O-Calc™ v3.x database: 1. Open O-Calc™ v3.x. 2. Select the O-Calc™ .mdb file. 3. Select Help>O-Calc™ Maintenance>Backup Database.
4. Browse to a folder where you want to save the backup and select Save. 5. When prompted, click OK to confirm the action. Note: If you have O-Calc ™ 3.x installations that use networked SQL databases you will be required to extract the data to an mdb file using SQL backup. This backup file can then be used as input to the Pole Data Upgrade Utility.

After completing a pole data upgrade it is important that you review the converted pole data and look for “Note:” entries titled “Conversion Warning”. These entries identify data items that have been adjusted. Such items might include:
Non-Standard crossarm adjustments.
Any equipment with an incline angle.
Any equipment with a rotation angle different from its offset angle.
Example of a Note: Conversion Warning
No warnings are issued during the pole data conversion so it is important that you examine the converted pole data. Warning notes do not indicate that any action is required; they simple flag corrections and adjustments that were made to conform to the new pole data mode.
