Electrical equipment - description: Thermostat
TS2, adjustable from 60-90°C. Temperature is adjusted by turning the arrow on the temperature adjustment scale to the preferred temperature. IMPORTANT: When the internal temperature in the water heater is set close to 60°C there is a slight risk of bacterial growth in the unit. A temperature setting of 65°C or above is preferable. The factory setting is 75°C.
Reset button
Located on the upper part of the TS2 thermostat, this button will release and cut all power to the heating element if the internal temperature in the water heater rises above 98°C. If this occurs, the function of the thermostat must be checked by authorized personnel before the reset button is pressed.
Internal wiring
All internal wiring is factory fitted. 2.5 mm² wires are standard. The unit is also factory fitted with a standard external power cable, complete with plug for grounded sockets. Lenght 3 m.
Heating element RG 5/4” - 3 kW - 230V 1-phase. The element is resistant to up to 250 mg. Cl/litre. An RG 5/4” - 3 kW - 400V 2-phase element is also available as an option.

All other parts including, but not limited to factory fitted electrical elements (damage caused by lime scale and aggressive water excluded), expansion vessel, thermostats and valves are guaranteed against material defects or manufacturing faults for 2 years from the date of purchase. In the event of a replacement component being required OSO Hotwater will supply such part(s) free of charge and freight paid, on condition that the defective component is delivered, freight paid to OSO Hotwater within 2 weeks of written notice being given to OSO Hotwater of the defect. Such replacement parts shall be guaranteed under the terms of this guarantee to the unexpired period of the aforementioned 2 year period. This warranty is conditional upon the OSO cylinder being installed in compliance with the OSO Installation & Maintenace Instructions, all current legislation, codes of practice and regulations governing the installation of unvented hot water cylinders in force at the date of installation and provided that: 1. The water quality shall be in accordance with European Council Directive 98/83 EC, or revised version at the date of installation, and is not fed with water from a private supply. Particular: Chloride content: Max. 250 mg/l Sulphate content: Max. 250 mg/l Combination Chloride/sulphate: Max. 300 mg/l (in total) 2. The OSO cylinder is filled with water before turning the electricity supply on to the heater elements. 3. If the newly fitted water heater is not in regular use then it must be flushed through with fresh water for at least 15 minutes. Open at least one hot water tap once per week, during a period of at least 4 weeks. 4. The OSO unvented cylinder has not been modified in any way other than by OSO Hotwater and is only used for the storage of potable water. 5. No factory fitted parts have been removed for unauthorised repair or replacement. 6. Defects caused by frost, excess pressure, salt dehardner process, transient voltage, lightning strikes or incorrect installation, repair or use, are not covered by this warranty. A laboratory evaluation of possible defects can be ordered by the user, however the user must pay for this where the above mentioned conditions have not been fulfilled. Evidence of the purchase date and the date of supply must also be submitted with your claim. This guarantee does not confer any rights other than those expressly set out above and does not cover any claims for consequential loss or damage. This guarantee is offered as an extra benefit and does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Diagnostics and fault finding guide
IMPORTANT: All maintenance or repair work must be executed by an approved installer. Type of failure
Possible cause
Diagnostic and what to do
No power supply to the water heater No hot water The thermostat may be set too high and cause the fuse or safety cut-off to operate.
Check if there is any power on the power supply terminal on the thermostat (4). Reduce thermostat setting by 5°C and press the reset button.
Heating element (5) or internal electrical wiring out of order. No heating
Check if there is any power on the power supply on the connector of the heating element between black and yellow/green wires. If this is OK, press the reset button on the fuse/safety cut-off.
Thermostat (4) is set too low. Heating element (5) or the internal electrical wiring partially out of order. Water not warm enough UX mixing valve (1) (fitted on top) is incorrectly adjusted
Adjust the thermostat up using a std. screwdriver. Check the resistance of the heating element on the connector of the heater bundle, and the condition of the internal wiring. See page 7 of this manual to see how to adjust the mixing valve to the preferred temperature.
Safety valve (SV) is dripping (10)
Water expands when heated. If there is no consumption of hot water over a period of time pressure builds up, causing the safety valve to open.
If drip from the SV is severe it might need to be replaced. Some dripping is normal. Alternatively an expansion vessel can be fitted.
Leak warning outlet (13) is dripping
The heating element (5) may not be properly tightened, or there may be a leak.
Check the heating element o-ring seal and all connections.
Other problems, or if none of the above solves the problem
Contact the installer/supplier regarding any other failure.
WARNING: Incorrect handling of thermostat, safety valve or other valves may lead to tank rupture. When servicing the unit follow instructions carefully: 1. Always turn off main power supply (8) when water supply is being shut off. 2. Test the free operation of the safety valve regularly by opening the valve ensuring the water flows freely. 3. Electrical connection and all servicing of the electrical components should only be carried out by an authorized electrician. 4. Fitting and all servicing of plumbing fixtures should only be carried out by an autorized installer. 5. When replacing the thermostat, safety valve or any other valve or part supplied with this unit, use only approved parts of the same specification. CAUTION: • Before resetting the safety cut-off or altering the thermostat setting, always remember to isolate the electrical supply to the unit. This must be done prior to removing the electrical box lid. • If the electric element (5) or thermostat (4) is defective, contact authorized electrician. • After adjustments are completed, ensure the lid to the electrical box is refitted correctly and that the retaining screw is properly fitted. Subject to changes without notice

Service and parts replacement Spare parts list, see page 8.
Replacing the heating element 1. Disconnect the power cable (8). 2. Remove the electric box lid (3). 3. Shut mixing valve (1) by turning knob (A) fully clockwise until the valve is completely closed. 4. Open Safety Relief valve (10) for a few seconds to relieve some of the pressure. This is done by turning knob counter-clockwise. Close the valve by turning the knob (A) fully counterclockwise until it snaps shut. 5. Disconnect all wires from the element. 6. Remove the element (5) by using an element socket tool (see spare parts page 8). Some water will flow from the element connection when removing it. 7. Quickly clean the O-ring slot. Enter the new heating element (5) , with a new O-ring fitted, into its connection. Important: Make sure the element enters the thread correctly and that the O-ring is placed in its correct position. Tighten element. 8. Open mixing valve (1) using knob (A) and check the element connection for leaks. 9. Refit the wires to the element in their correct positions, tighten properly. 10. Refit the electric box lid and reconnect the power cable (8). Adjust the mixing valve to the preferred temperature setting (see diagramme on page 7) using knob (A).
Fig. C
A
Replacing the thermostat 1. Disconnect the power cable (8). 2. Remove the lid (3) covering the electric box. 3. Loosen screws labelled 1, 3, 4 and A (see fig. D) and disconnect the electric wires. 4. Remove thermostat (4) by pulling back slightly on steel clip S using two fingers, then lifting the thermostat slightly horizontally out of the clip before removing it from the electrical box. 5. Replace thermostat by again pulling back on steel clip S before slotting the new thermostat into place. 6. Reconnect the wires to connections 1, 3, 4 and A (see fig. D), tighten properly. For further description and details regarding the thermostat see page 6.
