OWS G6 to APEX RECORDER UPGRADE PROGRAM INTRODUCTION With the release of OpenEye’s new Web Services Platform, and Apex server software, many customers are looking to upgrade their existing recorders to take advantage of the benefits the new platform has to offer. The good news is there is a free field upgrade program available for select systems that meet our upgrade criterion. The field upgrade program will be available beginning in late Q3 2016. This document is designed to serve as a definitive guide for customers wishing to load Apex on compatible recorder hardware they have already purchased. This guide includes: The Ordering Process - Instructions for placing an order for a FREE Apex software upgrade Compatible Recorders - A list of compatible recorder models eligible for Apex upgrades The Upgrade Process - A basic overview of the upgrade process Feature Comparisons - Comparison matrixes outlining the key differences between the current OpenEye recorder platform and new OpenEye Web Services Please review all sections thoroughly to fully understand the upgrade process. THE ORDERING PROCESS A FREE field upgrade program for Generation 6 recorders to migrate to Apex Server Professional or Traverse will be made available in Q3, 2016. To order an upgrade for a qualifying recorder to migrate to Apex Server and OWS: 1. Submit a $0 PO to OpenEye for part number OE-TRAVUPFREE or OE-PROFUPFREE and include the serial numbers of the recorders you wish upgraded. 2. OpenEye will validate all recorders listed are compatible with Apex server then return a list of registration codes specific to each system and their channel count. a. The registration code includes: i. Apex Server Professional or Traverse free of charge ii. 1 free year of OWS subscription and software updates iii. Additional years of OWS access may be purchased by adding the part numbers OE-OWST1Y (Traverse) or OE-OWST1Y (Professional) to the PO 3. OpenEye will provide a software image disk for each recorder, system specific software registration codes, and reimaging instructions to guide you through the update process. Relay, sensor, spot monitor, mux and any other connections not on the physical motherboard will no longer function. o Any devices with the following part number prefixes are not compatible: ▪ OE5-xxxx ▪ OE4-xxxx ▪ OE3-xxxx ▪ OE2-xxxx ▪ OE1-xxxx ▪ OE-Exxxx ~ CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT ~ 35021AC LAST UPDATED: August 10th, 2016 THE UPGRADE PROCESS To upgrade a recorder to Apex Server and OWS a full system reimage is required. There are several key points which should be understood before undertaking the upgrade process: • • • • Apex uses a completely new and improved video archiving system which requires reimaging and formatting all drives on the system. This process will erase all previously recorded video and system settings. Any hybrid system which is upgraded to Apex Server will require an external encoder to continue to support analog cameras. Relay, sensor, spot monitor, mux and any other connections not on the physical motherboard will no longer function. o OpenEye offers its own compatible encoder at a very reasonable price point. The feature sets of Apex Server and OWS as compared to RADIUS and G6 recorders differ from one another. The OWS platform offers many new and compelling features; it does however not carry over the full feature set of our existing recorder line. Before upgrading a customer’s recorder to Apex Server we recommend you review the feature comparison portion of this document. Contact a sales representative with any questions or to confirm specific features/functions are supported. Apex Server supports ONVIF 1.02 profile S, Arecont, Vivotek and RTSP as the primary camera connection methods. Please consult the IP compatibility page at http://www.openeye.net/support/ip-compatibility to confirm all cameras on your G6 recorder are compatible. Once you have received your software image and registration code you will follow the included reimaging instructions to complete the upgrade process. To connect the newly reimaged recorder to OWS make sure you have registered for an OWS reseller account in advance. This will allow you to enter your company code on site and link the recorder to your account without having to return later for this step. Your upgrade includes one year of free OpenEye Web Services and software updates. At the end of this one year term you will need to purchase additional years in order to continue to receive software updates and access to the features of OWS.
