Calibrating the Board The Promethean Board needs to be calibrated: after installation when the projector, computer, or board are moved you are having problems with the board or pen Calibrate by: hovering the pen over the flame in the top left-hand corner of the board until it turns red and following directions on the board right-clicking on the ActivManager icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the task bar

Dashboard Opens automatically by default when you open Inspire Uncheck “Show the dashboard window on startup” to change Dashboard can also be opened by going to Main Menu > View > Dashboard OR F11 shortcut Dashboard provides options to: Create and open flipcharts Import from Powerpoint and SMART Notebook Annotate over the Desktop Use the ExpressPoll (learner response devices) Connect to Promethean Planet Configure Register devices Manage profiles Check for updates

Profiles Dashboard (F11) > Configure > Manage Profiles Authoring At the Board Languages Mathematics Media Profiles can be customized by layout commands (tools) user-defined buttons settings

Primary/Studio Look and Feel ActivInspire has two “look and feel” sides Switch between the two: View Dashboard (F11) Select Configure Tab Check “Launch next time using the Primary (or Studio) look and feel” Close program Reopen ActivInspire

Opening a Flipchart Main Menu > File > Open OR Open Recent (will display recently opened flipchart names) Flipchart will open and a tab will be displayed

Page Scale Options Select options in drop down box Fullscreen Option - Windows Task Bar and Mac Dock will not show o Main Menu > View > Fullscreen o F5 shortcut

Flipchart Tabs Tab for each open flipchart Active flipchart will have bold tab Toggle back and forth between flipcharts

Design Mode Editing mode – edit objects and override locked objects, restrictors, disable actions for editing purposes, and view invisible (hidden) objects Toggle in and out of Design Mode with “snowflake” in top menu bar Orange snowflake means you are in Design Mode

Toolbox Contains tools needed to create and present flipcharts Can be pinned or unpinned Pop-up Menu can be used to change position of Toolbox o Dock left, right, top, or bottom o Floating o Roll up or down Additional tools can be added: o Main Menu > File > Settings > Commands o F11 > Configure > Manage profiles > Commands

Pen Tool Pen nib works as left mouse button Button on side of pen works the same as a right mouse click Select pen width with slider or preset widths in Toolbox Write with a firm pressure on board OBJECTS CREATED WITH THE PEN TOOL ARE CALLED ANNOTATIONS AND DEFAULT TO TOP LAYER OF FLIPCHART

Highlighter Tool Select highlighter width with slider or preset widths in Toolbox OBJECTS CREATED WITH THE HIGHLIGHTER TOOL ARE CALLED ANNOTATIONS AND DEFAULT TO TOP LAYER OF FLIPCHART

Eraser Tool Deletes ANNOTATIONS (created with Pen Tool and Highlighter Tool only

Undo and Redo Tools Undo Tool removes or reverses last action – back to last saved version of flipchart Redo Tool reapplies actions that you have used the Undo Tool to “undo”

Select Tool Selects and moves objects Use to select multiple objects and/or annotations at a time and work with them

Text Tool Place cursor on flipchart page and click with mouse or tap with pen Textbox with two handles will open – adjust size of textbox with handles Use Format Toolbar to format text Edit text already on page by clicking on textbox and opening Marquee Handles Toolbar Click on abc icon to open the Text Formatting Toolbar Reposition/Resize Text Click on textbox to be repositioned Use sizing handles to adjust size

Spellcheck To spellcheck a textbox: o Click on a textbox once o Right-click > Spellcheck Text To spellcheck an entire flipchart o Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Spellcheck flipchart

Shape Tool A box will open to the side of the flipchart Drop down box to access more shapes Select shape Select fill color (or X for no fill) in shape box Select outline color and width in color palette in Toolbox Click on flipchart page and draw out shape Edit shape points with Marquee Handles Toolbar Shape will be an object placed on the middle layer

Fill Tool Change page color – click on page Change color of a word within a textbox Change color within a closed shape

Grouping Objects When the Group Tool is gray, you have one object selected When the Group Tool is green, you have more than one object selected and they can be moved as a group As soon as you release the selection, each object will work independently again When the Group Tool is yellow, objects are a “grouped object,” and they will remain when the selection is released “Ungroup” by clicking on the yellow Group Tool

Reset Page Returns the PAGE (not entire flipchart) to the last SAVED version

Deleting Objects From Page Drag objects to trashcan Click on object and then on trashcan Use Eraser Tool to erase annotations Use Clear Tool options

Saving a Flipchart Main Menu > File > Save As Printing a Flipchart Main Menu > File > Print Select from options in “Flipchart print” box

Page Browser Select a page to make your active page Click and drag pages to change their order Pop-up Menu can be used to work with pages Thumbnail size can be changed with the slider Use to copy objects from one page to another o Pin down Page Browser o Select page you want to copy from o Click and drag object to a page displayed in the Page Browser

Resource Browser Contains resources for creating flipcharts Two resource areas: o Shared o Personal You can add resources to each area by dragging the resources from a flipchart page into a folder in the browser window You can browse out to other locations to obtain resources Search feature to search for resources Changing Resource Path Main Menu > File > Settings Profile and Resources Uncheck the “Use default” box Browse out and select where your default resources are located

Object Browser Shows the order and layer of objects on a page Can drag objects from one layer to another within the browser Pop-up Menu can be used for editing options Can lock/unlock all objects on a page

Notes Browser Add Page Notes (directions, hints, answer keys, cite sources, provide helpful information for using a page) Open Page Notes Browser and type in note Use Format Toolbar at bottom of browser to open text editing tools Page Note icon will display on Menu Bar when Note has been added to flipchart

Property Browser Identification Appearance Set tools to turn on and off automatically Add or remove a grid Add labels Set restrictors Put limits on rotations Create containers Pick through a color Drag a copy – create unlimited copies of an object – does not work in Design Mode

Action Browser Actions can be added to objects. Action categories: All Actions Command Actions Page Actions Object Actions Voting Actions Document/Media Actions Drag and Drop lets you drag pre-assigned actions to objects.

Magic Ink Main Menu > Tools > Magic Ink Makes any object (or part of an object) on the TOP LAYER invisible so you can see through it and view objects on the middle and bottom layers o Move objects to top layer o Drag Magic Ink over object to reveal object(s) underneath

Revealer Tool Main Menu > Tools > Revealer Provides a “window shade” that reveals hidden objects by clicking and dragging the shade from: o top o bottom o right o left Use the pop-up menu to preset the location of the shade Change color of Revealer Tool by going to Edit Profiles > Effects > Reveal Tool

Spotlight Tool Main Menu > Tools > Spotlight Four choices: Circular Spotlight – can write inside the Spotlight Square Spotlight – can write inside the Spotlight Solid Circular Spotlight – can write around the Spotlight Solid Square Spotlight – can write around the Spotlight Size the Spotlight Tool by clicking and dragging any part of the perimeter of Spotlight Move the Spotlight Tool by dragging on any part of the masked area Change settings for the Spotlight Tool in Main Menu > Settings > Effects > Spotlight Can set the Spotlight Tool to turn on and off automatically on a page using the Property Browser Can use Spotlight to take a snapshot and add to your page Use Pop-up Menu to close Spotlight Tool

Clock Tool Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Clock Display as: o analog o digital o both Can be set to: o count down o count up o play a sound o perform an action

Web Browser Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Web Browser Default location is set at www.prometheanplanet.com – You can change this at File > Settings > Online Settings Adjust windows so you can view the web browser and flipchart page Select text and/or images from a web page and drag them onto your flipchart page Reformat, resize, and reposition text as desired Resize and reposition images as desired

Tickertapes Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Tickertape Used to scroll text messages over a flipchart page o Open Tickertape Tool to open a default message o Use “Tickertape Edit” to change the message o Edit font, color, size o Choose options for drop shadow, background, position, speed o Use Tickertape File Menu to save and load Tickertapes TICKERTAPES ARE NOT SAVED WITH A FLIPCHART!

Math Tools Main Menu > Tools > Maths Tools Math Profile Toolbox contains Math Tools by default o Ruler o Protractor o Compass o XY Origin o Dice Roller o Calculator

Ruler o Click on center of ruler to reposition o Click near edge of ruler to rotate o Use Pop-up Menu to change settings o Pen Tool will “snap” to edge of ruler to draw straight lines o Close the ruler with the Pop-up menu or use the Trashcan

Protractor o Use freely move X to reposition o Hover over protractor until you see the rotate arrow to rotate o Click near the edge of protractor to resize it o Use Pop-up menu to change options and settings o Use Pop-up menu or Trashcan to close

Compass o Click on compass where the angle is displayed and use freely move X to move compass o Click and drag the pencil holder to change the radius of the compass o Use compass pencil to draw angle o Use Pop-up menu to change options and settings o Use Pop-up menu or Trashcan to close

XY Origin – used to add an origin point anywhere on a page o Add an object to the flipchart page o Click on the XY Origin Tool and move the origin point to the position that you want to be the center of rotation o Select the object to rotate around it with the Select Tool o When done, click on XY Origin Tool to remove the rotation point o Drag the tool to the Trashcan when finished using it ActivInspire will remember the last origin point and default to this point next time the tool is opened

Dice Roller o Select number of dice to roll – from 1 to 5 o Adjust speed of dice roll o Click “Roll” to roll selected die/dice o Click on “Output to Flipchart” to paste sum of roll on flipchart page o Use X to close out of Dice Roller

Calculator o Move the calculator by click and dragging on its border o Right-click under the display to change between adult and child calculator o Close with X or use Trashcan

Importing Resource Packs Download a Resource Pack from Promethean Planet and save it Go to Main Menu > File > Import > Resource Pack to “Shared Resources” or “My Resources” Browse out and select saved Resource Pack Open
Importing Files From Other Software Main Menu > Import Select type of import

Desktop Annotation Use ActivInspire tools on your desktop or an open application “Desktop Flipchart” is automatically created Desktop flipcharts are transparent NOTE: Objects are saved that are added to the desktop/application, BUT the actual desktop/application is NOT a part of the flipchart and is NOT saved

Screen Recorder Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Screen Recorder Select Fullscreen Recorder or Area Screen Recorder If using Area Screen Recorder – click and drag blue box over area you want to record in Click Launch Recorder Click Record button “Save a Recorder File” box will open Browse out and specify location you want to save to Stop recording and it will be converted to a video file Change settings by going to Main Menu > File > Settings > Recordings

Sound Recorder Main Menu > Tools > More Tools > Sound Recorder or from Desktop Tools wheel Use to capture and create your own sound files Customize settings at File > Settings > Recordings > Sound Recordings o Add to Flipchart – adds icon to flipchart page o Save to Disk – saves to location you name before recording o Both Click on red “Record” icon in Sound Control box to start recording audio Use the Pause and Stop icons as needed

Adding Text From Other Documents Resize (restore down) your flipchart page Open the document you want to copy from and resize it Click on the text and drag it over to the flipchart page Reposition/resize/edit the added text as needed Copy/paste features also work

Inserting a Video Link Main Menu > Insert > Link > File Browse out and find your video file Open file In the Insert File box, choose options o Add link as o Store as o Multimedia o Placeholder options
Inserting a Website Link Main Menu > Insert > Link > Website Enter website Choose desired type of link for page Click OK

Inserting an Image Select Insert Media Tool from Toolbox OR Main Menu > Insert > Media Browse out and locate file you want to insert Select it Link is added to your flipchart page

Layers Top Layer o Annotations (Pen and Highlighter) go to Top Layer by default o ]Magic Ink works on Top Layer only Middle Layer o Images, lines, shapes, text go to Middle Layer by default Bottom Layer o Empty by default Background Layer o Always under all flipchart items o Can be a color, image, or contain a grid o You cannot change the layer of a “true background” Change the layer objects are on with a right click > Reorder OR by using the Object Browser All flipchart objects on a page are ordered within their own layer – this may be changed
