MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Maintain Safe Working Environment. CAUTION! Tools service must be performed only by qualified repair personal. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instruction in the maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury. 2. 1. Keep the palm grip dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Unused tools should be stored in a dry, secure area where children cannot reach them. 3. The tool will operate more efficiently and safely in the specified performance range. Do not use any tools or attachments that are not suited for the work. 4. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents that could attach the plastic parts of the tool Select the Proper Tool for the Task. Wear Appropriate Work Clothes. Do not wear any loose-fitting clothing or jewelry (they could get caught up in moving parts). For outdoor work, it is recommended that you wear rubber gloves and non-slip footwear. Wear ANSI Approved Safety Glasses. Power tools can propel foreign objects and debris into your eyes. Wear ANSI Z87.1 compliant safety glasses at all times. Wear a face or dust mask. Sanding produces dust and debris that could be inhaled. Secure the Work-Piece. Use clamping devices or a vice in order to hold the work-piece in a secure position that allows you to operate the tool with both hands. Do Not Over Reach or Stretch Beyond Your Standing Area. Avoid any abnormal postures. Ensure that you are standing securely and keep your balance at all times while operating a power tool. 10. Properly Maintain Your Tools. Keep your tools ready for use in order to assure proper operation. Follow any maintenance schedule specified and the instructions for tool changes. Check the plug and the cable regularly and if these are damaged, have them replaced by a qualified electrical specialist. Always keep handles free from oil and grease. 11. Avoid Any Unintentional Operation or Starting-up of the Device. Do not place your finger on the switch when carrying tools connected to the power supply. Make sure that the switch is off when connecting the device to the power supply. 12. Disconnect the Tool From the Power Supply. When not in use, prior to maintenance and during sand paper installation, disconnect machine tools of all kinds from the power supply. 13. Be Alert. Observe your work. Proceed sensibly. Do not use the tool if you are physically or mentally impaired in any manner. Do not operate the tool under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other medication that could impair your ability. 14. Repairs Only by an Electrical Specialist. This power tool complies with known safety regulations. Only an electrical specialist may carry out repairs. 15. Use Only Approved Accessories. Use attachments and accessories recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on another tool. 5. Do Not Incorrectly Use the Power Cable. Do not carry the tool by the power cable and do not use the power cable to pull the plug out of the socket. Protect the power cable from heat, oil, and sharp edges. 1 2 DUST COLLECTION (FIGURE 3) 1. Sander may be connected to a dust collection system by means of the 1-1/4" diameter dust evacuation chute (1) at the rear of the sander. An 1-1/2" diameter adapter tube (2) is also provided. 2. Clean the sander regularly of excess dust and debris. FIGURE 4 2. Use Correct Extension Cords Use only UL listed extension cords having a polarized 3-wire, 3-prong grounded outlet with sufficient Amps/Watts rating to supply the power requirements (located on the nameplate) of the tool. Inspect extension cord before use and never use damaged or altered extension cords. Follow extension cord manufacturer safety instruction. Always disconnect the extension cord from the power source before disconnecting the tool. Grounding instructions This tool must be plugged into a 3-wire, 3-prong outlet that is properly working and has been installed and grounded in accordance with all local, state or Federal codes and ordinances. 1 OPERATING THE SANDER (FIGURE 4) WARNING: ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. SANDING CAN PRODUCE FINE DUST THAT CAN IGNITE IF EXPOSED TO OPEN FLAME OR SPARKS. CAUTION: Remove all nails, staples, fasteners, foreign objects or other debris before sanding. Never sand over these objects. 1. To start the sander, depress the On-Off rocker switch (1) to the On position (marked "l" on the switch). Note: The sander will continue running until the switch is moved to the Off position. 2. To stop the sander, move the switch to the OFF position (marked "0" on the switch). 3. Start and stop the sander before contacting the work piece. Allow the weight of the tool apply friction between the sandpaper and work piece. In most cases additional pressure will not be required. 4. Move the sander evenly over the work surface maintaining constant motion. Prolong operation in one location can cause uneven surfaces. 5. For best results change sandpaper frequently and never use the sander without sandpaper or damage to the base could result. DANGER: Failure to connect this tool to a properly grounded outlet can result in DAMAGE, FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK or FATAL INJURY. Consult a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to weather the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the product - if it will not fit the outlet; have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Do not use any type of adapter with this product. 4. Polarized power cord This tool is equipped with a POLARIZED power cord. It has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) and must be connected to a polarized outlet (one slot is longer than the other). The plug is not intended to be mated with nonpolarized outlets (having both slots the same size). If any parts are missing do not attempt to use the product until they have been obtained and correctly installed. This palm sander is designed for use with hook & loop type sand paper that attaches to the base without clamps. 2. To attach the sandpaper, align the paper edges (1) with the base (2) and press firmly together. 3. To remove the sandpaper, carfully peal the edge away from the base (2). NOTE: If attached to a dust collection system, holes in the sandpaper must be aligned with the holes in the sander base.
