Meibes Heat Interface Units (HIUs) facilitate the use of centralised systems for space heating and domestic hot water in multi-residential buildings. They are high performing units, engineered with fully tested and approved components, designed to provide optimum performance for end users, while ensuring that they are easy to install and maintain. Pegler Yorkshire also holds a comprehensive range of spares for fast delivery throughout the UK. Meibes HIUs are pre-fabricated units linked to the central heat source(s) via a network of three pipes – heating flow and return and a separate potable water feed. A zone valve in each unit, linked to a standard timer and room thermostats, controls the space heating for each apartment. A patented Proportional Modulating (PM) valve intelligently prioritises the requirement for domestic hot water (DHW) over heating, in a similar way to a combi boiler. A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS The Meibes HIUs offered by Pegler Yorkshire have been designed to meet the specific needs of the UK market. For example, Meibes HIUs for the UK are configured for top-entry pipework for ease of installation in ceiling voids The breadth of the Meibes HIU range delivers solutions for all types of centralised heating networks serving multi-residential accommodation, ensuring effective control of heating and DHW in apartments and other spaces. The design of HIUs facilitates a balanced system that delivers consistent performance, irrespective of variation in hot water demands or how far the units are from the plant room. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Private apartments Local Authority accommodation Housing Associations Student accommodation Nurse accommodation Sheltered housing. 4 “Whatever the application, Meibes HIU have the authoritative solution” DESIGN BUILD Performance Installation innovation Pegler Yorkshire has various high performance Meibes HIU products that are suitable when designing apartments with multiple bathrooms. These ensure reliable performance for individual use and against the overall building requirements. Guidance on network and temperature flow rates can also be provided by the Pegler Yorkshire team. The Meibes HIU range is part of Pegler Yorkshire Connect & Control, which fully recognises the importance of minimising installation costs whilst ensuring the building performs efficiently and optimally. Meibes HIUs were one of the first to be designed with a first fix rail which is available to aid staged installation, supporting the primary network set-up. Allocating design space No special commissioning required Meibes HIU headline A2 RX Indirect Heating and Domestic Hot Water units are compact in size at only 500mm wide, enabling them to be fitted into minimal cupboard space. This also provides the option to fit them into an appliance space. Further options are also available for direct heating units at 650mm wide. Meibes HIUs are designed to remove complications and provide clarity on installation. There is no need to have a specialist for commissioning as the standard installation process requires a competent installer to simply follow the specifier’s set-up parameters. UK solution Pegler Yorkshire is one the leading manufacturers of commercial plumbing and heating systems. Our expertise and experience enables contractors to benefit significantly when it comes to project costs, and technical and service support, by using a connect and control system they can trust. Pegler Yorkshire ensures that UK experience, system design and installation and practices drive the solution to the product, which is why the Meibes range of HIUs is designed to meet UK needs. As a result there is no need to compromise and adapt to HIU’s with a European configuration. Expertise 5 ENERGY EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS SUITABLE FOR CENTRALISED BOILER PLANTS SERVICE Guarantee Pegler Yorkshire provides ultimate engineering and performance confidence. Down time can lead to client frustration and experience is the key to a well-managed building project. Meibes HIUs combine high quality components and reliability to deliver a peace of mind proposition which prevents expensive call backs. Service Pegler Yorkshire is committed to providing an after service experience that allows peace of mind for contractors and facility managers. A network of service teams is available with dedicated telephone support lines providing technical advice. 2 year guarantee on moving parts 6 ENERGY EFFICIENCY WITH IMPROVED SAP RATINGS Centralised heating systems are becoming increasingly popular for multi-residential properties as they offer a number of key advantages over decentralised systems with individual boilers in each apartment. These include: Improved energy efficiency 11% improvement in SAP ratings (compared to decentralised systems) No gas installation throughout the building Energy-saving features of Meibes HIUs Meibes HIUs operate on a ‘no demand-no flow’ basis, so that when there is no demand for heating or DHW the unit effectively goes into standby. The arrangement minimises the demand on the main network, reduces energy consumption and ensures the apartment is not over-heated. The performance of the units is based on primary flow temperatures of 65°C, enabling use with low carbon heat sources such as heat pumps. The resulting low return water temperatures also help to maximise condensing when condensing boilers are used. No flues in apartments Ease of access to heating plant for maintenance Simple integration of low carbon and renewable heat sources. To help ensure minimum heat losses from the system, all pipework is pre-insulated to save energy and reduce onsite insulation work. For further energy savings an A-rated pump aligns water flows with heating demand to minimise pump energy consumption. 7 A TOTAL SUPPORT PACKAGE FOR SPECIFIERS, CONTRACTORS AND FACILITIES MANAGERS Meibes HIUs deliver key benefits for all parties in the supply chain, from initial system design through to everyday operation and maintenance. All backed by the expertise and support of Pegler Yorkshire. INDIRECT SYSTEM – A2 RX/A2 UX SYSTEM BENEFITS The indirect system provides both indirect space heating and indirect DHW. The system uses twin heat exchange units to supply instantaneous DHW and space heating. The Proportional Modulating Valve operates in the same way as a combi diverter valves. Whenever there is a call for DHW, the PM valve diverts the primary flow through the heat exchanger to generate DHW, using all available energy to support the DHW demand. Typically, this results in the heating circuit being closed for just a few minutes, having minimal impact on occupant comfort. Reduces heat losses Reduces pumped volume around primary circuit Removes peak load issues CENTRAL HEAT GENERATOR HEAT INTERFACE UNIT Protects against variation in flow and return rates between apartments (Primary heating separate to apartment circuit) Separate heating circuit Flexible temperature control Mains water Primary flow Primary return When the DHW demand has been satisfied the primary flow reverts to the space heating system. RADIATOR/ UNDERFLOOR HEATING Heating flow Heating return Potable water DHW flow DIRECT SYSTEM – A1 RX Low maintenance requirements. SYSTEM BENEFITS The direct configuration delivers the primary heating direct to the apartment circuit, with indirect DHW. Reduced cost Less space required in apartment CENTRAL HEAT GENERATOR Low maintenance requirements. HEAT INTERFACE UNIT (Primary heating direct to apartment circuit) Mains water Primary flow Primary return HEAT EMITTER Heating flow Heating return Potable water DHW flow INDIRECT FOR CYLINDER SYSTEM – A1 CX When using a cylinder system the primary circuit is separate to the secondary circuit, so that hot water is supplied from the cylinder, ensuring hot water is always available. The system incorporates a zone valve which is controlled by standard controls such as a time clock and a room thermostat to switch off the unit when there is no demand, thereby reducing network load. SYSTEM BENEFITS Simple design DHW CYLINDER Heat usage metered Hot water reserve in apartment. For example, the first fix may be carried out in the early stages, with the HIUs themselves being installed later in the project schedule. This reduces the risk of onsite damage to the HIUs. The first fix rail is secured to the wall in the appropriate position allowing all plumbing connections to be made, pressure tested, flushed and filled. Depending on the nature of the contract, this may also support staged billing for work carried out and products installed. HEAT METERS FEATURES WRAS approved ball valves Factory sealed flow/ return connections Primary Bypass Module Available with bypass for easy system flushing Fix rail supports primary pipe work testing. First fix Rail (also available with Primary Bypass Module) FEATURES Meibes HIUs can be factory-fitted with optional heat meters, allowing for accurate, measurement of heat energy use in individual apartments. Use of factory-fitted heat meters reduces onsite work and enables optimum use of skilled labour for more complex tasks. Factory-fitted units are pressure tested before delivery to site. Heat meter measures the differential between flow and return temperatures Data from the heat meters can be collected manually or via a wired or wireless network. Pre-payment can also be incorporated. RHI and OMS compliant MID approved factory fitted ultrasonic heat meters Conforms to EN1434-3;1997 Common Mbus output into data extraction 10 year battery life Permanent display (shown in kWh). DATA EXTRACTION The most popular form of data extraction from heat meters is an Mbus network connection, which can be pre-fitted to the heat meter. The data extraction unit sends a master signal to slave meters, which then report on energy consumption data. The readings can be sent via email or pulled directly from the data logger. Where required, heat meters can be fitted with radio-based data extraction systems. FEATURES Ability to consolidate readings from up to 400 meters Allows data extraction to be directly or remotely configured Flexible programming allows meter readings to be time defined Data can be retrieved or sent automatically via email as CSV-file or xml-file Available May 2014 SD card as back-up to prevent risk of data loss. 13 PRODUCT DETAILS MEIBES HIU INDIRECT UNIT A2 RX BLU-CLIMATE RANGE 14 MEIBES HIU A2 RX BLU-CLIMATE RANGE The A2 RX is a higher capacity version of the A1 RX, suitable for apartments with two bathrooms. Comprehensive spare stocks available in UK. Top entry connections Top entry pipework facilitates pipework runs in ceiling voids for quicker, simpler and more cost effective connection. First fix rail Enables faster installation and facilitates staged installation to suit the project timetable and contractor’s schedule. Also allows earlier primary testing of the main heat network. The first fix rail allows all plumbing connections to be made, pressure tested, flushed and filled before installation of the main unit, thereby reducing risk of damage and supporting staged applications for payment where appropriate. All pipework is pre-insulated Minimises heat loss for higher energy efficiency, while also improving end user comfort by preventing heat transfer to property during summer. Integrated Differential Pressure Control Valve (DPCV) Integrated DPCV make the system ‘self balancing’ and ensures each unit only draws as much energy/flow as it requires in conjunction with a Proportional Modulating Valve. Results in a simpler design with improved control and less noise. Vertically mounted, un-insulated Domestic Hot Water heat exchanger (DHW) Uninsulated vertical heat exchanger accelerates cooling of DHW heat exchanger through convection and thermal radiation, minimising limescale formation, maintaining high performance and extending life of units. Proportional Modulating Valve (PMV) Gives priority to DHW generation over space heating to ensure full DHW performance. Primary flow rates are matched to cold water input. Carbon coated operating rod in PM valve, with ceramic disk Carbon coating provides self lubricating operation, with ceramic disc removing limescale each time the valve operates to deliver a longer, trouble free, service life. Indirect energy supply Separates main primary circuit from secondary circuits, ensuring issues in either do not impact on the other. Also provides clear demarcation where different contractors are used for primary and secondary circuit installation. No demand – no flow With no demand for hot water or heating the unit is effectively on standby with no flow (see trickle bypass). Minimises demand on main network, reduces energy costs and avoids ‘overheating’ of space where unit is fitted. ‘A-rated’ pump The electronic pump is an ‘A-rated’ Wilo pump which delivers energy-savings due to only using the minimum amount of electricity. Blending valve Controls maximum temperature of DHW from the heat exchanger at 60ºC. The blend valve allows the temperature to adjust from 60ºC down to 35ºC depending on the application requirement. Trickle bypass (included) Ensures that the prime flow is hot when the unit is switched off, ensuring quicker response times for DHW demand and eliminating ‘cold legs’ in network where HIUs are some distance from the main network. Avoids need for bypasses on risers, thereby simplifying network design. Performance based on lower primary flow temperatures – 65ºC Ensures maximum performance with condensing boilers and supports use of low carbon heat sources (e.g. heat pumps) with lower primary flow temperatures. Return temperature limited (RTL) valve An optional RTL is available if required to allow the return temperature to be limited. This protects the boiler from excessive temperatures. Optional factory fitted, heat meter Allows accurate measurement of individual energy use. Pressure tested and fitted at factory, reducing on site labour and risk. Range of options to suit project requirements – ultrasonic or mechanical. M-Bus, radio, manual reading, prepayment. Potable water circuit WRAS approved to meet UK requirements and compliant with European Drinking Water directive, in line with Pegler Yorkshire’s commitment to highest quality and safety. Warranties 2 year warranty on the unit and moving parts such as pump (on selected units). Designed for ease of servicing Ease of access to all components ensures annual servicing can be completed quickly and efficiently. Reduced lifecycle costs Product quality and ease of servicing ensure minimal cost of ownership with sustained high efficiency and performance. Flexible stainless steel pipework Reduces thermal expansion stresses for quieter operation during warm up and cool down. Easier future servicing due to flat face connections. In the unlikely event of a need for component replacement, flexible pipework makes re-connection easier. Test points Allows confirmation of flow pressure and temperature. Strainers on primary and secondary circuits Help to capture debris from either circuit, thereby protecting heat exchangers and/or other components, as well as extending service life. Strainer cleaning is included in annual servicing. Vertically mounted insulated heat exchanger for heating circuit Ensures heating circuit heat exchanger remains at temperature without introducing ‘heat’ to the unit. Lack of cycling and appropriate water treatments ensure that limescaling is not an issue. Simple, straightforward control wiring External control wiring is similar to a conventional combi boiler and therefore familiar to installers.
