8
Warning and Safety instructions Correct installation Do not install this dishwasher in an area where there is a risk of explosion or freezing conditions.
To ensure the stability of built-under dishwashers, they must only be installed beneath a continuous worktop that is bolted to the adjacent cabinetry.
In order to reduce the risk of damage from condensation, the furniture in the area around the dishwasher should be designed for commercial use.
Technical safety This dishwasher must only be installed, commissioned, repaired and then maintained by the Miele Service Department or an authorised Miele Service dealer. Installation, repair and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous and Miele will not be held liable.
This dishwasher must only be operated by appropriately trained personnel. They must be instructed and trained regularly.
Before using the dishwasher, check it for any externally visible damage. Under no circumstances should you use it if it has been damaged. It could be dangerous.
In the event of a damaged or leaking dishwasher, switch off at the mains immediately and call the Miele Service Department or an authorised Miele Service dealer.
Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele original spare parts. Only when these parts are fitted can Miele guarantee the correct functioning and safety of the appliance.
9
Warning and Safety instructions The electrical safety of this dishwasher can only be guaranteed when correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety requirement is met. If in any doubt, please have the electrical installation tested by a qualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
Please follow the advice on installation in these instructions and the separate Installation diagram.
Before connecting the appliance, ensure that the connection data on the data plate (voltage, frequency and fuse rating) match the mains electrical supply.
There must be no electrical sockets behind the dishwasher. Danger of overheating and fire risk if the dishwasher were to be pushed up against a plug (see "Electrical connection").
Do not connect the dishwasher to the mains electricity supply by a multi-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
Do not open the dishwasher casing. Tampering with electrical connections or components and mechanical parts is highly dangerous to the user and can cause operational faults.
The dishwasher must not be used if the electrical connection cable is damaged. If the cable is damaged it must be replaced with a special cable available from Miele. For safety reasons this must only be done by the Miele Service Department or an authorised Miele Service dealer.
The dishwasher must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply before any maintenance or repair work is carried out.
The plastic housing of the water connection contains electrical components. It must not be dipped in water.
10
Warning and Safety instructions There are electrical wires in the water inlet hose. Do not shorten the water inlet hose, even if it is too long.
The integrated Waterproof system offers protection from water damage, provided the following conditions are met: – installation has been carried out correctly, – the dishwasher is properly maintained and parts replaced where it can be seen that this is necessary, – the stopcock has been turned off during longer periods of inactivity (e.g. whilst on holiday). The Waterproof system will work even if the dishwasher is switched off. However, the dishwasher must remain connected to the electricity supply.
11
Warning and Safety instructions Correct use This dishwasher is designed for operation with water and cleaning agents suitable for use in commercial dishwashers only. Organic solvents and flammable liquid agents must not be used in it. This could cause an explosion, damage rubber or plastic components in the dishwasher and cause liquids to leak out of it.
Only use cleaning agents formulated for use in commercial dishwashers. Using unsuitable cleaning agents could adversely affect components in the dishwasher, as well as items being cleaned.
Do not sit or lean on the opened door. This could cause the dishwasher to tip up and be damaged or cause an injury.
After any plumbing work the water pipework to the dishwasher will need to be vented. If this is not done, components can be damaged.
Please be aware that the dishwasher may be operating at high temperatures. If the door is opened there is a danger of burning or scalding. Crockery, cutlery, baskets and inserts must be allowed to cool down before they are unloaded. Any water remaining in containers could still be very hot. Empty them into the wash cabinet before taking them out.
The water in the cabinet must not be used as drinking water. Pre-treating items (for example with washing-up liquid and other cleaning agents) as well as some types of soiling and some cleaning agents can cause a build-up of foam in the wash cabinet. Foam can have an adverse effect on the cleaning result.
Foam escaping from the wash cabinet can cause damage to the dishwasher. If foam escapes the programme must be cancelled immediately and the machine must be disconnected from the mains electrical supply.
12
Warning and Safety instructions When using cleaning agents and specialised products, it is essential that the manufacturer's instructions are followed. Cleaning agents must only be used for the purpose they are designed for and in the situation specified, to avoid such dangers as serious chemical reactions and material damage (e.g. oxyhydrogen explosion).
Do not inhale or ingest powder cleaning agent. Dishwasher cleaning agents contain irritant or corrosive ingredients which can cause burning in the nose, mouth and throat if swallowed, or inhibit breathing. Seek medical attention immediately if cleaning agent has been swallowed or inhaled.
Miele cannot be held liable for any effect chemical cleaning agents may have on the material of the items being cleaned. Observe the cleaning agent manufacturer's instructions with regard to storage conditions, use and dosage.
To avoid material damage and corrosion, do not allow any acids or solutions containing chlorides or metals which are not rust-proof to get into the wash cabinet.
Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, grease or paint in the dishwasher. These substances could damage the dishwasher.
Do not hose the dishwasher or near vicinity down to clean it, e.g. with a hosepipe or a pressure washer.
Ensure that the stainless steel outer casing of the appliance does not come into contact with solutions or steam containing acid to avoid any corrosion damage.
Be careful when sorting items with sharp pointed ends and positioning them in the dishwasher that you do not hurt yourself or create a danger for others. Sharp knives, forks, etc. should be placed in baskets with the pointed ends facing downwards.
Remove any coarse food deposits and empty out any containers or utensils before loading them in the dishwasher.
13
Warning and Safety instructions Safety with children Supervise children when they are anywhere near this dishwasher. Do not let them play with it. There is a danger that children playing might shut themselves in the dishwasher.
Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the dishwasher unless they are constantly supervised.
Children aged eight years and older may only operate the dishwasher unsupervised if they have been taught how to operate it safely and understand the dangers of incorrect use.
Keep children away from chemical agents. These contain irritant and corrosive ingredients which can cause burning in the mouth, nose and throat if swallowed, or inhibit breathing. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door is open. There could still be residual chemical agent in the cabinet. Seek medical advice immediately if a child has swallowed or inhaled chemical agent.
Accessories Accessory parts may only be fitted when expressly approved by Miele. If other parts are used, warranty, performance and product liability claims will be invalidated. Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning and Safety instructions.

Caring for the environment Disposal of the packing material
Disposing of your old appliance
The packaging is designed to protect the appliance from damage during transportation. The packaging materials used are selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled.
Electrical and electronic appliances often contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, compounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety. These could be hazardous to human health and to the environment if disposed of with your domestic waste or if handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance with your household waste.
Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites.
Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre for electrical and electronic appliances, or contact your dealer or Miele for advice. You are also responsible (by law, depending on country) for deleting any personal data that may be stored on the appliance being disposed of. Please ensure that your old appliance poses no risk to children while being stored prior to disposal.
15
Caring for the environment Energy-saving washing This dishwasher is exceptionally economical in its use of water and electricity. You can make the most of your machine by following these tips: You may connect the dishwasher to a hot water supply. This is particularly suitable with energy-saving water heating sources such as solar energy systems. If the hot water system is electrically heated and if loads consist primarily of glassware we recommend connecting the machine to the cold water supply. For most economical dishwashing, make full use of the baskets without overloading the dishwasher. Choose the programme to suit the type of crockery being washed and the degree of soiling. Select the ECO programme for energy-saving dishwashing. This programme is the most efficient in terms of its combined energy and water consumption at cleaning normally soiled crockery. Follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations on detergent dosage.
16
When using powder detergent you can use 1/3 less detergent if baskets are only half full.
Commissioning Opening the door
Closing the door Push the baskets right in. Then raise the door up, and push until it clicks into position.
Do not put your hand inside the door as it is closing. Danger of injury.
Safety lock Use the safety lock to prevent children opening the dishwasher door. At the end of programmes with a drying phase (see "Programme chart"), the door will open automatically a little in order to help the drying process. This function can be deactivated, if preferred (see "Settings, AutoOpen"). To open the door, reach under the door grip and pull. If the door is opened during operation all functions are automatically interrupted.
Keep the area around the door free of obstructions.
To lock the door, push the slide underneath the door grip to the right. To unlock the door, push the slide to the left.
17
Commissioning Display General The display is used to select or set the following: – the programme – the delay start time
Settings menu
– settings
The Settings menu is used to alter the dishwasher's electronics to suit different requirements. You access the Settings menu by pressing a specific button combination. For more information see "Settings menu".
During a programme, the display shows the following: – the stage the programme is at – the estimated time left for the programme to run – any relevant fault messages and information To save energy, the dishwasher will switch to Standby-mode within a few minutes if no programme is running and no button is pressed. After several more minutes it switches off completely (see "Operation, Standby"). To turn the dishwasher back on, press the button.
In the Settings menu, the normal functions of the buttons underneath the display are not active allowing you to select and confirm menu options with these buttons. The left and right arrows in the display indicate that additional options are available. You can use the arrow buttons underneath the display, as appropriate, to select these further options. Use the middle button underneath the display to confirm messages or settings and to switch to the next menu or submenu. A tick will appear beside the option which is currently selected.
18
Commissioning Standard settings Switch the dishwasher on with the button. If the dishwasher is being switched on for the first time, the welcome screen will appear. Language The display will then change automatically to the screen for setting the language. See "Display" for more information about the display and controls. Select the language you want and press the middle button to confirm. A tick will appear next to the language that has been set. Water hardness The display will change to the screen for setting the water hardness.
In the event of a fault, it will help the service technician if you know the hardness of your local water supply. Enter the water hardness below: ____________mmol/l or °d The dishwasher is programmed at the factory for a water hardness level of 2.7 mmol/l (15 °d - German scale). Select the water hardness level for your water supply and confirm with the middle button. See "Settings menu, Water hardness" for more information. The following two messages Add rinse aid and Add salt may then appear in the display. Press any button to confirm these messages. The display will change to show the main menu.
– The dishwasher must be programmed for the water hardness level in your area. – Your local water authority will be able to advise you of the water hardness level in your area. – Where the water hardness fluctuates e.g. between 3.1 and 4.5 mmol/l (17 25 °d - German scale) always programme the dishwasher to the higher value (4.5 mmol/l or 25 °d in this example).
19
Commissioning Before using the machine for the first time, you will need: – approx. 1 kg dishwasher salt, – approx. 110 ml rinse aid, – Dishwasher detergent, see "Operation". Every dishwasher is tested at the factory. There will be residual water in the machine from this test. It is not an indication that it has been used previously.
Filling the salt reservoir In order to achieve good cleaning results, the dishwasher needs to operate with soft water. Hard water results in a build-up of calcium deposits on crockery and in the dishwasher. Mains water with a hardness level higher than 0.7 mmol/l (4 °d - German scale) needs to be softened. This takes place automatically in the integrated water softener. The water softener in the dishwasher is suitable for a water hardness level of up to 6.5 mmol/l (36°d - German scale). See "Settings menu, Water hardness" for more information.
20
If the water in your area is very soft and constantly lower than 0.7 mmol/l (4 °d - German scale) you do not need to add dishwasher salt. The dishwasher must however still be programmed for the water hardness level in your area.
Do not fill the salt reservoir with powder or liquid detergent. Dishwasher detergent will damage the water softener.
Only use special coarse grained dishwasher salt for reactivation, or pure evaporated salt. Miele Professional offer appropriate products. Other salts may contain insoluble additives which can impair the functioning of the water softener.
Commissioning When filling the salt reservoir only open the door halfway to ensure that all the salt gets into the reservoir.
Press the button on the lid of the salt reservoir in the direction of the arrow until the flap springs open.
Add salt only until the reservoir is full. The salt reservoir holds approx. 1 kg of salt, depending on the type of salt used. Do not add any more than 1 kg of salt. As the salt reservoir is being filled, displaced water may run out. Clean any excess salt from around the reservoir opening, and then close the flap. Run the "Pre-wash" programme immediately without a load in order to remove any traces of salt from the cabinet.
Lift up the funnel. Do not fill the reservoir with water.
21
Commissioning Add salt reminder
Rinse aid
When Add salt appears in the display wait until the end of the programme and then refill the salt reservoir.
Rinse aid is necessary to ensure water does not cling and leave marks on crockery during the drying phase, and helps crockery dry faster after it has been washed. Rinse aid is poured into the storage reservoir and the amount set is dispensed automatically.
Press the middle button to confirm. The refill reminder will go out. After the salt reservoir has been filled, the refill reminder may still appear in the display if the salt concentration has not yet reached the correct level. If this is the case, confirm again with the middle button. The salt refill reminder is deactivated if the dishwasher is set to a water hardness of less than 0.7 mmol/l (0 - 4 °dH).
Run the "Pre-wash" or the "Short" programme immediately without a load in order to remove any traces of salt from the cabinet.
Fill the reservoir with rinse aid only. Do not fill it with washing-up liquid or cleaning agent. This would damage the rinse aid reservoir. Suitable products are available from Miele Professional. Alternatively household vinegar with a max. 5 % acid content or liquid citric acid with a max. 10 % acid content can be used. The resulting rinsing and drying quality will not, however, be as good as when rinse aid is used.
Do not use vinegar with a higher acid content (e.g. vinegar essence 25 % acid). This would damage the dishwasher.
22
Commissioning Adding rinse aid
Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. This prevents over-foaming occurring during the next programme. You can adjust the rinse aid dosage for best results (see "Settings menu, Rinse aid").
Rinse aid refill reminder When the Add rinse aid message appears, the reservoir contains sufficient rinse aid for 2 - 3 programmes only. Add rinse aid in plenty of time. Press the button on the lid of the rinse aid reservoir in the direction of the arrow until the flap springs open.
Press the middle button to confirm. The refill reminder will go out.
Add rinse aid only until it is visible in the opening. The reservoir holds approx. 110 ml. Close the flap firmly so that it clicks into place. Otherwise water can enter the rinse aid reservoir during a programme.
23
Loading the dishwasher Loading the dishwasher Remove coarse food residues from crockery. There is no need to rinse items under running water.
Notes Ensure that no acid or solvent residues, especially hydrochloric acid or chlorides, get inside the wash cabinet.
Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, lubricating grease or paint in the dishwasher. These substances will damage the dishwasher. Crockery can be loaded anywhere in the baskets, but the following notes should be observed: Load the crockery so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that they get properly cleaned. Load plates symmetrically in the upper and lower baskets with the concave surface towards the centre of the basket (as shown on the following pages). Do not place crockery and cutlery inside other pieces where they may be concealed. Load the crockery so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that they get properly cleaned. Make sure that all items are securely positioned.
24
Hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. must be inverted in the basket. Tall, narrow, hollow items should be placed in the centre of the basket if possible to ensure better water coverage. Wide based items should be placed at an angle so that water can run off them freely. The spray arms must not be blocked by items which are too tall or hang through the baskets. If in doubt, test for free movement by manually rotating the spray arms. Small items can fall through the holders in the baskets. Small items should therefore be placed in the cutlery basket or cutlery tray (depending on model). Some foods may contain natural dyes, e.g. carrots, tomatoes or ketchup. Plastic items in the dishwasher may discolour if large quantities of these foods find their way into the dishwasher on the dishes. The stability of plastic items is not affected by this discolouration.
Loading the dishwasher Items not suitable for dishwashers:
We recommend
– Wooden cutlery and crockery or items with wooden parts: these may discolour and fade. The glue used in these items is not dishwasher-proof and wooden handles may come loose after being washed in a dishwasher.
– When purchasing new crockery and cutlery, make sure they are dishwasher-proof.
– Craft items, antiques, valuable vases and decorative glassware: such items are not suitable for dishwashers. – Plastic items which are not heat resistant: the high temperatures in the dishwasher may cause them to melt or lose shape. – Copper, brass, tin and aluminium items: these may discolour or become matt. – Colours painted over a glaze: these may fade after a number of washes. – Delicate glassware and glassware containing lead crystal: clouding may occur over time.
– Clouding may occur on glasses after frequent washing. If delicate glassware is washed in the dishwasher ensure that only a special glass-care programme with very low temperatures (see programme chart) is selected and that suitable cleaning agent is used. This will reduce the risk of clouding. Please note: Silver and aluminium which has been in contact with foods containing sulphur can discolour.
Aluminium components (e.g. grease filters) must not be cleaned with caustic alkaline commercial or industrial cleaning agents. These may damage the material, or in extreme cases, there is a risk of a severe explosive chemical reaction (such as an explosive oxyhydrogen gas reaction).
25
Loading the dishwasher Upper basket For safety reasons, do not operate the dishwasher without the upper and lower baskets in place.
Use the upper basket for small, lightweight and delicate items such as cups, saucers, glasses, dessert bowls, etc. Shallow pans or casserole dishes can also be placed in the upper basket. Long items such as soup ladles, mixing spoons and long knives should be placed horizontally across the front of the upper basket.
26
Hinged spikes The rows of spikes can be folded down to make more room for larger items such as casserole dishes.
Press the yellow lever downwards , and then lower the spikes . Cup rack Raise the rack upwards to make room for tall items. Glasses can be arranged along the cup rack for support during the programme. Lower the cup rack and lean the glasses against it.
Loading the dishwasher Jumbo cup rack
Glass rail
The cup rack can be set at two different widths so that it can also accommodate large cups.
This rail is designed to hold tall glasses and stemware securely. Lower the rail and lean tall glasses against it. Adjusting the height of the glass rail: You can set the glass rail at two different heights.
Pull the cup rack upwards and click it back into position at the required width.
Pull the rail upwards and click it back into position at the required height. Use the low setting for small glasses and tumblers. Use the high setting for tall glasses and stemware.
27
Loading the dishwasher Adjusting the upper basket In order to gain more space for taller pieces of crockery in the lower or upper basket, the upper basket can be adjusted on three levels with 2 cm between each level. The upper basket can also be set at an angle with one side high and the other side low. This can be useful to help prevent water being left in deep dishes etc. Ensure, however, that the basket can be inserted smoothly into the cabinet. Pull out the upper basket.
To raise the upper basket: Lift the basket up until it clicks into place. To lower the upper basket: Pull upwards on the levers at either side of the upper basket. Adjust the basket to the desired height and then push the levers securely back down into position.
28
Depending on the setting of the upper basket, the following plate dimensions can be accommodated. Dishwasher with cutlery basket Upper basket level

29
Loading the dishwasher Glass rack The glass rack can be raised to make more room for tall items. Stemware, e.g. wine glasses or champagne flutes, can be leaned against the glass rack or suspended from it. The height of the glass rack is adjustable.
Slide the glass rack to the desired height until the catches click into place at the top or rest on the bottom.
30
Hinged spikes The spikes at the front are used for washing plates, soup bowls, platters, dessert bowls and saucers. Both rows of spikes can be lowered to make more room for large items, e.g. pots, pans and serving dishes.
Press the yellow lever downwards , and then lower the spikes .
Loading the dishwasher Cutlery basket
The cutlery basket can be placed anywhere on the front rows of spikes in the lower basket.
Fit it onto the cutlery basket if required.
To avoid the risk of injury, knives and forks should be placed with the handles upwards in the basket. However, cutlery placed handle down in the basket will come out cleaner and drier. Place small items of cutlery in the individual slots on three sides of the cutlery basket.
Cutlery insert for the cutlery basket Use the insert supplied for heavily soiled items of cutlery. The insert separates the items so that they can be more easily accessed by water.
Insert cutlery with the handles facing downwards. Distribute the cutlery evenly.
31
Operation Detergent Powder detergents Use powder detergent or dishwasher tabs only in the door dispenser compartment. Suitable products are available from Miele Professional. Tabs can be used. Only use tabs that are quick dissolving. Suitable tabs are available from Miele Professional. Add powder detergent or cleaning tabs to the detergent compartment. Detergent dosage Unless directed otherwise, use one tab or add 20 to 25 g of powder detergent to compartment II, depending on the level of soiling. With very heavy soiling you can also add a small amount of powder detergent to compartment l (see "Programme chart"). Failure to dispense the recommended amount of detergent may impair cleaning results.
Liquid cleaning agent This dishwasher can be fitted with an external dispenser pump for liquid cleaning agent (DOS module). See "Settings menu - External DOS" to activate the dispenser pump and set the dosage. For special soiling and if using liquid cleaning agent dispensed by a liquid detergent pump, contact Miele for advice on how to set the dosage for best results.
Cleaning agents containing active chlorine must not be used. They can damage plastics and elastomers in the dishwasher. Refilling or changing containers The DOS module is equipped with a level indicator. Add detergent will appear in the display when the level drops below the minimum. As soon as the message appears in the display, refill or replace the container with a full one at the end of the programme. Confirm the message shown with the OK button. Replace the container in good time to prevent the dispensing system being emptied completely. An empty dispensing system must be vented before starting the next programme. Place the container on the open cabinet door or on a surface which is easy to clean.
32
Operation Wipe up any spilled chemical agent thoroughly. Place the container on the floor next to the dishwasher or in an adjacent cupboard. The container must be on the same level as the dishwasher. It must not be placed higher than the dishwasher or on top of it. The DOS system must then be vented.
Unscrew and remove the siphon. Place the siphon on the open cabinet door. Replace the empty container with a full one. Push the siphon into the opening of the container and screw it on tightly. Observe the colour coding.
To vent the system and adjust the dosage amount, see "Settings menu, External DOS". Checking consumption Monitor the amount of chemical agents used by regularly checking the level in the container. Always follow the recommendations of the cleaning agent manufacturer whether using powder or liquid cleaning agent.
33
Operation Avoid inhalation of powder detergents and do not ingest dishwasher detergent. Detergents can cause chemical burns in the nose, mouth and throat. Seek medical advice immediately if detergent has been swallowed or inhaled. Keep detergent and other cleaning agents out of the reach of children at all times. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door is open. There could still be detergent residues in the cabinet. To avoid the danger of children coming into contact with the dishwasher detergent, only add detergent just before starting the programme and close the door, activating the safety lock.
Adding powder detergent
Add the required amount of detergent and close the flap. Make sure that the detergent packaging is properly closed after use to avoid it getting damp and clumping together. Dispensing information Compartment I holds max. 10 ml, Compartment II holds max. 50 ml of detergent. There are markings to assist with dispensing: 20 and 30. The marks indicate a level of approx. 20 or 30 ml when the door is open in the horizontal position. They also indicate the approx. level in grams (depending on the manufacturer and the coarseness of the agent).
Press the opening catch on the detergent dispenser. The flap will spring open. The flap is always open at the end of a programme.
34
Operation Switching on Open the stopcock, if it is closed. Make sure the spray arms can rotate freely. Close the door. Switch the dishwasher on with the button. The ECO programme (which is the factory default programme) will appear in the display and the appropriate indicator light will come on. After a short while, the estimated running time for the programme will appear in the display. You can also change the setting to the programme you last used (see "Settings menu, Programme preselection").
Selecting a programme Choose your programme according to the type of load and how dirty it is.
When the indicator light next to the symbol lights up, you can select further programmes using the > button. With further programmes the name of the programme will alternate with the programme duration in the display. You can now select additional functions (see "Additional functions").
To start a programme Press the Start/Stop button. The programme will begin. If any additional functions are selected, the appropriate indicator lights will also light up. A programme should only be cancelled in the first few minutes, if at all. Important programme stages (e.g. reactivating the water softener) could otherwise be omitted.
The different programmes and their uses are described in the Programme chart later on in this booklet. Select the programme required with the button. The indicator light for the selected programme comes on and the indicator light for the Start/Stop button flashes.
35
Operation Time display
Standby
The duration of the programme selected appears in hours and minutes in the display before the programme begins. During the programme, the time left until the end of the programme is displayed.
To save energy, the dishwasher will switch to Standby mode a few minutes after the last time a button has been pressed or a few minutes after the end of the programme. The display and the indicator lights will go out and only the Start/Stop indicator will flash slowly.
Symbols appear to indicate which stage the programme is at: Pre-wash Main wash Interim rinse Final rinse Drying Finished The displayed programme duration may vary with the same programme. It is influenced by, among other things, the water temperature at each intake, the reactivation process of the water softener and the amount of dishes. When a programme is selected for the first time, the display shows an average programme duration for warm water. The programme duration changes if the electrical connection is changed.
36
Press any button to switch the display back on. If the dishwasher is not switched off at the end of the programme, it will switch off completely after a few minutes in Standby mode (see "Settings menu, Optimise standby"). The dishwasher will not switch into Standby mode whilst a programme is running, if salt or rinse aid needs to be replenished or there is a fault. You can switch off the reminders to replenish salt and rinse aid so that the dishwasher will go into Standby despite a lack of salt or rinse aid (see "Settings menu, Refill display"). You cannot switch off fault messages.
Operation At the end of the programme
Switching off
The programme has finished when Finished or AutoOpen appears in the display and the door has opened slightly (if applicable).
At the end of a programme:
If Extra drying was selected and AutoOpen is active, the drying fan will run for a few minutes after the programme has ended. Open the door completely to reengage the door closing mechanism.
Switch the dishwasher off with the button. The dishwasher will continue to use electricity until it is switched off with the button. Tip: If the dishwasher is not going to be used for a longer period of time, e.g. whilst on holiday, the stopcock should be closed.
You can now empty the dishwasher.
If you have deactivated the automatic door opening function (see "Settings menu, AutoOpen"), but would still like to open the door at the end of the programme, then make sure that you open the door fully. Otherwise steam from the dishwasher could damage the edge of the worktop because the fan is no longer running.
Unloading the dishwasher Dishes tend to break and chip more easily when they are hot. Allow the dishes to cool until they are comfortable enough to handle before unloading them. If you open the door fully after switching off, the dishes will cool much faster. First unload the lower basket, then the upper basket and finally the cutlery tray (depending on model). This will prevent water drops from the upper basket and cutlery tray from falling onto the dishes in the lower basket.
37
Operation Interrupting a programme
Changing a programme
A programme is interrupted as soon as the door is opened. If the door is closed again, the programme will continue from the point it was at before the door was opened.
If the detergent dispenser cover has already opened, powder detergent must be added for the new programme unless liquid cleaning agent is being dispensed.
Water in the dishwasher may be
If a programme has already started and you wish to change it, proceed as follows:
hot. Danger of scalding. Only open the door if absolutely necessary and exercise extreme caution when doing so. Before closing the door again, leave it ajar for approx. 20 seconds. This will enable the temperature in the wash cabinet to settle. Then raise the door up and push until the catch engages.
38
Press the Start/Stop button for at least one second. The programme will be cancelled. Select the programme you want, and then start it.
Additional functions Extra drying
Delay start
For better drying results and to reduce the amount of steam that escapes when the door is opened, the Extra drying function extends the fan runtime at the end of the programme. This function is not available for all programmes (see "Programme chart").
The start time of a programme can be delayed, e.g. to benefit from cheaper electricity tariffs at night. A delay start time of between 30 minutes and 24 hours can be selected. The delay start time is set in 30 minute steps.
When Extra drying is selected, the programme duration will increase by approx. 20-30 minutes, depending on the programme. Switch the dishwasher on with the button. The Start/Stop indicator light will flash. Select a programme. Press the button. The "" indicator light will come on if this function is available for the selected programme. Otherwise Option not possible appears in the display. Press the Start/Stop button to start the programme.
When using the Delay start function, make sure that the detergent compartment is dry before adding detergent. Wipe dry with a cloth if necessary. If the compartment is wet, powder detergent can become lumpy and stick to the dispenser, with the result that it is not fully dispensed. Switch the dishwasher on with the button. The Start/Stop indicator light will flash. Select the programme you require (see "Operation, Selecting a programme"). Press the button. The last delay start time will appear in the display. The "Delay start" indicator light comes on. Set the required time using the button. If you keep the Delay start button pressed in, the time will increase automatically up to 24:00 h. To start at 30 minutes again, press the button twice.
39
Additional functions Press the Start/Stop button. The Start/Stop indicator light will come on. If you do not press the Start/Stop button within a few seconds after you have set the Delay start time, the programme duration will appear in the display again. You will have to set the Delay start time again. The time starts counting down in minutes until the programme start time. At the end of the delay period, the programme selected begins automatically. The time left for a programme to run then shows in the display, the Delay start indicator light goes out and the Start/Stop indicator light comes on.
To prevent children coming into contact with detergent: Do not fill the detergent dispenser until just before starting the programme, i.e. before pressing the Start/Stop button, and activate the safety lock.
40
Starting a programme before the Delay start period has elapsed: A programme can be started before the Delay start period has elapsed. Proceed as follows: Press the Start/Stop button for at least one second. The Delay start indicator light will go out and the Start/Stop indicator light will flash. Press the Start/Stop button again. The programme will start. The Start/ Stop indicator light will light up constantly.
Cleaning and care Periodic checks
All surfaces are susceptible to
To prolong the service life of the dishwasher, it should should be serviced after every 750 hours of operation, or at least once a year by Miele Service.
scratching. Contact with unsuitable cleaning agents can alter or discolour the external surfaces.
This maintenance will cover the following: – Electrical safety according to national regulations (VDE 0701/0702 in Germany) – Door mechanism and door seal – Any screw connections and connectors in the wash cabinet – Water inlet and drainage – Internal and external dispensing systems – Spray arms – Filter combination
Cleaning the wash cabinet The wash cabinet is largely selfcleaning, provided that the correct amount of detergent is always used. If, despite this, limescale or grease deposits accumulate in the cabinet, these can be removed with a proprietary dishwasher cleaner (available from Miele). Washing at low temperatures can allow germs and odours to build up inside the machine. To prevent this, run an intensive programme with detergent after approx. 20 programme cycles at low temperatures.
– Sump including drain pump and nonreturn valve – All baskets and inserts The following operational tests will be carried out within the framework of the maintenance: – A programme will be run as a test run – Thermo electrical measurements will be taken – Seals will be tested for water tightness – All relevant measuring systems will be safety tested including error message displays. – Safety features 41
Cleaning and care Cleaning the door and the door seal Wipe the door seal regularly with a damp cloth to remove food deposits. When the dishwasher is being loaded, food and drink residues may drip onto the sides of the dishwasher door. These surfaces are outside the wash cabinet and are not accessed by water from the spray arms. Any soiling should be wiped off these surfaces before the door is closed.
Cleaning the door front
To avoid damaging the surfaces of the machine, do not use: – cleaning agents containing soda, ammonia, acids or chlorides, – cleaning agents containing descaling agents, – abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. powder cleaners and cream cleaners, – solvent-based cleaning agents, – stainless steel cleaning agents, – dishwasher cleaner,
Remove any soiling immediately.
– oven sprays,
Soiling that is left too long might become impossible to remove and could cause the external surfaces to alter or discolour.
– glass cleaning agents,
Clean the front with a clean sponge and a solution of hot water and washing-up liquid. After cleaning, dry with a soft cloth. A clean, damp microfibre cloth without cleaning agent can also be used.
42
– hard, abrasive sponges and brushes, e.g. pot scourers, – melamine eraser blocks, – sharp metal scrapers, – steam cleaning appliances.
Cleaning and care Checking the filters in the wash cabinet
Cleaning the filters Switch the dishwasher off.
The filter combination in the base of the wash cabinet retains coarse soil from the suds solution, preventing it accessing the circulation system and re-entering the cabinet through the spray arms.
This dishwasher must not be used without all the filters in place. Collection of coarse soil may cause the filters to clog. The level of soiling and time it takes before the filters need cleaning will vary depending on use. The message Check filters will appear in the display after every 50 programme cycles (factory default setting). You can turn off the filter check or set the interval for this message to appear between 30 to 60 programme cycles (see "Settings menu, Check filter"). Check the filter combination. Clean it, if necessary. Confirm the message with the middle button.
Turn the handle anti-clockwise to release the filter combination . Lift the filter combination out of the dishwasher . Remove any coarse particles and rinse the filter well under running water. Use a nylon brush if necessary.
Make sure that when cleaning the filters, no coarse soil falls into the circulation system. This would cause a blockage.
The last selected programme will appear briefly in the display and the appropriate indicator light will come on. After a short while, the estimated running time for the programme will be displayed.
43
Cleaning and care
To clean the inside of the filter, the flap must be opened: Press catches together in the direction of the arrows as shown, and open the filter . Rinse all the filters under running water. Then close the flap so that the catch engages.
44
Replace the filter combination so that it lies flat in the base of the wash cabinet. Then turn the handle clockwise to lock the filter combination in place.
Take care when fitting the filter combination that it is secured in position correctly. Otherwise coarse soil could get into the circulation system and cause a blockage.
Cleaning and care Cleaning the spray arms Particles of food can get stuck in the spray arm jets and bearings. The spray arms should therefore be inspected and cleaned regularly (approx. every 4 - 6 months). Switch the dishwasher off. Remove the spray arms as follows: Take out the cutlery tray (if your dishwasher is fitted with one). Pull the lower spray arm firmly upwards to remove it.
Push the top spray arm upwards to engage the inner ratchet. Then unscrew the spray arm. Push the middle spray arm in to engage the ratchet. Then unscrew spray arm . Remove the lower basket.
Use a pointed object to push food particles into the spray arm jets. Rinse the spray arms thoroughly under running water. Replace the spray arms and check that they rotate freely.

Problem solving guide With the help of the following guide, minor faults in the performance of the machine, some of which may result from incorrect operation, can be put right without contacting the Service Department. The following guide may help you to find the reason for a fault, and to correct it. You should, however, note the following:
Repairs must only be carried out by a Miele technician or a Miele authorised service agent in accordance with local and national safety regulations. Unauthorised or incorrect repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
Technical problems Problem
Cause and remedy
When the dishwasher is switched on with the button, the display stays dark and the Start/Stop indicator does not flash.
The dishwasher is not plugged in. Insert the plug and switch on at the socket.
The dishwasher stops during a programme.
The fuse has tripped. Reset the trip switch (minimum fuse rating - see data plate). If the mains fuse trips again, call the Miele Service Department.
Interruption to the power supply during operation
If a temporary interruption to the power supply occurs during a programme sequence, no action is required. The programme will continue after the interruption. If the temperature in the wash cabinet drops below the minimum value required for the programme block during the interruption to the power supply, the programme block will be repeated. If there has been an interruption to the power supply of ≥ 20 hours, the entire programme will be repeated.

Problem solving guide Noises Problem
Cause and remedy
Knocking noise in the wash cabinet.
A spray arm is knocking against an item in a basket. Interrupt the programme, and rearrange the items which are obstructing the spray arm.
Rattling noise in the wash cabinet.
Items are insecure in the wash cabinet. Interrupt the programme, and rearrange the load. A foreign object (e.g. a cherry stone) has become lodged in the drain pump. Remove the foreign object from the drain pump (see "Maintenance, Cleaning the drain pump and non-return valve").
Knocking noise in the water pipes.
This may be caused by the on-site installation or the cross-section of the piping. This has no effect on the functioning of the dishwasher. If in doubt, contact a suitably qualified plumber.
51
Problem solving guide Unsatisfactory cleaning result Problem
Cause and remedy
The dishes are not clean.
The dishes were not loaded correctly. See notes in "Loading the dishwasher". The programme was not suitable for the load. Select a more suitable programme (see "Programme chart"). Not enough detergent/cleaning agent was dispensed. Increase the dosage. The detergent/cleaning agent used is not suitable for the type of soiling present. Change your brand. Items are blocking the path of the spray arms. Rearrange the items so that the spray arms can rotate freely. The filter combination in the base of the wash cabinet is not clean or is not correctly fitted. This may cause the spray arm jets to get blocked. Clean and/or fit the filter combination correctly. Clean the spray arm jets, if necessary (see "Cleaning and care"). The non-return valve is open and blocked. Dirty water has flowed back into the wash cabinet. Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve (see "Maintenance").
Smearing appears on glassware and cutlery. There is a bluish sheen on the surface of glassware; film can be wiped off.
The rinse aid dosage is set too high. Reduce the dosage (see "Settings menu, Rinse aid").
Crockery is not dry or cutlery and glasses are flecked.
The rinse aid dosage is set too low or the rinse aid reservoir or container is empty. Replenish the rinse aid, increase the dosage or change the brand of rinse aid used (see "Adding rinse aid"). Crockery was taken out of the cabinet too soon. Leave it in for longer (see "Operation").

White residue is visible on the dishware. Clouding occurs on glassware and cutlery; film can be wiped off.
The rinsing agent dosage is set too low. Increase the dosage (see "Settings menu, Rinse aid"). There is no salt in the salt reservoir. Fill the salt reservoir (see "Filling the salt reservoir"). The water softener is programmed to too low a water hardness level. Programme the water softener to the correct value (see "Settings, Water hardness").

The wash temperature of the selected programme was too low. Select a programme with a higher wash temperature. The bleaching effect of the cleaning agent used is too low. Change your brand.
Plastic items are discoloured.
Natural dyes e.g. from carrots or tomatoes may be the cause. The amount of cleaning agent used or its bleaching effect was not sufficient to deal with natural dyes. Use more cleaning agent (see "Operation, Detergent"). Discoloured plastic items will not regain their original colour.
There are rust stains on A programme was not run after dishwasher salt was cutlery. added. Traces of salt have got into the wash cycle. Always run the "Pre-wash" programme without a wash load after refilling salt. The affected items are not corrosion resistant. Purchase cutlery which is dishwasher-proof. 53
Maintenance Cleaning the water inlet filter A filter is incorporated in the screw connection of the valve on the water inlet hose. The filter must be cleaned when dirty, otherwise insufficient water flows into the wash cabinet.
The plastic housing of the water connection contains an electrical component. The housing must not be dipped in water.
Recommendation If the mains water contains a large number of insoluble substances, we recommend fitting a large-area filter in the connection between the stopcock and the water inlet hose threaded union. This filter is available from Miele.
Cleaning the filters: Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains (switch the dishwasher off, unplug it or disconnect or disable the fuse). Close the stopcock. Unscrew the inlet hose.
54
Carefully remove the seal from the threaded union. Withdraw the filter using pointed pliers and rinse clean under running water. Take care when withdrawing the filter not to pull out or dislodge the flow regulator located underneath the filter. Replace the filter and seal, making sure they are sitting correctly. Reconnect the inlet hose to the stopcock, making sure it goes on correctly and is not cross-threaded. Turn on the stopcock gradually to test for leaks. If there is a leak, the inlet hose might not be on securely, or it may have been screwed on at an angle. Unscrew and reconnect the water inlet hose correctly before tightening it.
Maintenance Cleaning the drain pump and non-return valve If the water has not been pumped away at the end of a programme the drain pump or the non-return valve might be blocked. They are, however, easy to clean. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains (switch the dishwasher off, unplug it or disconnect or disable the fuse). Take the filter combination out of the wash cabinet (see "Cleaning and care", "Cleaning the filters"). Scoop the water out of the cabinet using a suitable container or utensil.
The drain pump is situated under the non-return valve (see arrow). Remove all foreign objects from the drain pump carefully (watch out for glass splinters which are particularly difficult to detect). Turn the drain pump impeller by hand to check that there are no more obstructions. You will feel a little resistance when you turn the impeller. Carefully replace the non-return valve.
Ensure that the catch engages correctly.
Press the catch for the non-return valve inwards .
Be very careful not to damage sensitive components when cleaning the drain pump and the non-return valve.
Lift out the non-return valve and rinse well under running water. Remove all foreign objects from the non-return valve.

Electrical connection UK Electrical connection UK All work on the electrical connection must be carried out by Miele, a Miele authorised technician or a qualified electrician. – In the UK it must comply with BS 7671. – Connection to the power supply must be made via a suitable plug and socket which conforms to national regulations and must be accessible for service and maintenance work after the machine has been installed. – For hard-wired machines, connection should be made via a suitable mains switch with all-pole isolation which, when in the off position, ensures a 3 mm gap between all open contacts. – For increased safety, it is recommended to protect the machine with a suitable residual current device (RCD) with a trip current of 30 mA. – Equipotential bonding should be carried out if required. – The mains connection cable may only be replaced by an original Miele spare part. – For technical data see data plate or wiring diagram supplied. The dishwasher must only be operated with the voltage, frequency and fuse rating shown on the data plate.
60
This machine can be converted to a different type of power supply in accordance with the conversion diagram and wiring diagram supplied. The data plates are located at the back of the dishwasher and along the right edge of the open door. The wiring diagram is supplied with the machine. The conversion diagram is attached to the plinth panel behind the plastic plinth cover.
Electrical connection UK Remove the plinth panel.
Equipotential bonding connection
The electrical connection is located behind the front cover in the middle of the dishwasher plinth.
There is a screw connection point marked at the back of the appliance, to which additional equipotential bonding can be connected.
Disconnect the machine from the mains supply.
All work on the electrical connection must be carried out by Miele, a Miele authorised technician or a qualified electrician. Unscrew the 2 screws (left and right) and remove the plinth panel. Screw the plinth panel back on when work on the connection has been completed. Please refer to the installation diagram provided.
61
Plumbing The Miele Waterproof system Provided your dishwasher has been installed correctly, the Miele Waterproof system will provide protection against water damage throughout its lifetime.
Connection to the water supply The water in the dishwasher must not be used as drinking water. – The dishwasher must be connected to the water supply in strict accordance with current local and national water authority regulations. – The water used must at least comply with European regulations for drinking water quality. If the water supply has a high iron content there is a danger of corrosion occurring on items being cleaned in the dishwasher, as well as the machine itself. If the chloride content of the water exceeds 100 mg/l the risk of corrosion to items being cleaned in the dishwasher will be further increased. – In certain regions (e.g. mountainous regions), the water composition may cause precipitates to form, requiring the use of softened water for the dishwasher. – UK only: To comply with water regulation requirements, this dishwasher must be connected to the drinking water supply via the check valve supplied with the machine.
62
– The water pressure (flow pressure at the take-off point) must be between 30 and 1000 kPa (0.3 and 10 bar). If the water pressure is lower than this, the fault message Inlet will appear in the display (see "Problem solving guide"). If the water pressure is too high, a pressure reducer valve must be fitted. 3
– A stopcock valve with a /4 inch male thread must be provided on site. It should be easily accessible so that the water supply can be turned off when the dishwasher is not in use. – The DN 10 inlet hose is approx. 1.5 m 3 long terminating in a /4 inch female thread. A 1.5 m long flexible metal extension hose tested to 140 bar (14,000 kPa) is available as an optional accessory if required. On no account may the inlet filter be removed.
Plumbing To avoid any damage to the machine, the dishwasher must only be connected to a fully vented plumbing system.
The inlet hose must not be shortened or damaged in any way as it contains electrical components (see illustration).
63
Plumbing Connecting the drain hose
Venting the drainage system
– The dishwasher drainage system is fitted with a non-return valve, which prevents dirty water from flowing back into the dishwasher via the drain hose.
If the on-site drain connection is situated lower than the guide path for the bottom basket rollers in the open door, the drainage system must be vented. Otherwise a siphoning effect during a programme can cause the machine to empty itself of water.
– The dishwasher drainage hose should be connected to a separate on-site drain for the dishwasher only. If no separate drain is available, we recommend connecting it to a dualchamber siphon.
To vent it: Open the dishwasher door fully.
– The dishwasher is equipped with a 1.5 m flexible drain hose with an internal diameter of 22 mm. Hose clips are supplied with the dishwasher. – The drain hose must not be shortened. The hose can be extended using a connection piece to attach a further length of hose. The drainage length must not be longer than 4 m and the delivery head no higher than 1 m. – The drainage system must be able to accommodate a minimum drainage flow of 16 l/min.
Make sure that there are no kinks in the hose, and that it is not squashed or stretched.

Pull the lower spray arm firmly upwards to remove it. Cut off the top of the vent valve in the wash cabinet.

Settings menu Rinse aid
AutoOpen
For best results the rinse aid dosage can be adjusted. The dosage can be set between approx. 0-6 ml. The factory setting is 3 ml of rinse aid.
To improve drying, the door automatically opens a little at the end of a programme, except for Pre-wash, Short and Beer glasses (see "Programme chart").
If spots appear on crockery and glassware:
With the Medium, Intensive and Glasses programme, AutoOpen can only be activated by selecting Extra drying (see "Additional functions, Extra drying"). With the ECO programme the door opens during the drying phase.
– Increase the rinse aid dosage. If clouding or smearing appears on crockery and glassware: – Decrease the rinse aid dosage. Select the desired amount of rinse aid and press the middle button to confirm.
This function can be deactivated if wished. Select the desired setting and press the middle button to confirm.
If you have deactivated the automatic door opening function but would still like to open the door at the end of the programme, make sure that you open the door fully. Otherwise steam from the dishwasher could damage the edge of the worktop because the fan is no longer running.
68
Settings menu Optimise standby To save energy, the dishwasher will switch to Standby mode a few minutes after the last time a button has been pressed or a few minutes after the end of the programme. The display and indicator lights will go out and only the Start/Stop indicator light will flash slowly. If the dishwasher is not turned off at the end of the programme, it will switch off completely after a few minutes in Standby mode. Optimise standby can be switched off if you prefer. If you do this the display and indicator lights will not go out and the duration before the dishwasher switches off automatically increases to approx. 6 hours. Doing this will increase energy consumption. Select the desired setting and press the middle button to confirm. The dishwasher will not switch into Standby mode whilst a programme is running, if salt or rinse aid needs to be replenished or there is a fault.
69
Settings menu Refill reminders You can switch off the reminders to replenish salt and rinse aid so that the dishwasher will go into Standby despite a lack of salt or rinse aid. You cannot switch off fault messages. If you want the dishwasher to switch to Standby mode in spite of the Refill messages, you can switch both indicator lights off. Select the desired setting and press the middle button to confirm.
Brightness There are seven different display brightness settings. Select the level of brightness you want and press the middle button to confirm.
Contrast There are seven different display contrast settings. Select the contrast you want, and press the middle button to confirm.
70
Check filters You can adjust the interval at which the reminder to check the filters appears. You can set an interval of between 30 and 60 programme cycles. The reminder to check the filters is set at the factory to appear after every 50 programme cycles. This function can be deactivated if wished. Select the desired setting and press the middle button to confirm.
External DOS Activate automatic dispensing of liquid detergent if you have installed the optional external dosing module. The DOS module is supplied with its own installation instructions. Select the desired setting and press the middle button to confirm. The setting will remain active until you deactivate External DOS.
Settings menu Detergent amount This function only becomes visible when External DOS is activated. When using liquid dispensing via an external dispensing module, you can dispense cleaning agent according to the detergent manufacturer's instructions in millilitres or as a percentage. –
Amount in ml
30 ml is set as standard. The dispensed quantity can be modified between 10 and 100 ml in 2 ml steps. –
Amount as %
0.50 % is set as standard. The dispensed quantity can be modified between 0.17 and 1.67 % in 0.03 0.04 % steps. Setting the dosage: Set the dosage according to the cleaning agent manufacturer's recommendations. The dishwasher uses approx. 6.5 l of water for the main wash cycle. Example: The cleaning agent manufacturer recommends 4 ml (or 0.07 %) of cleaning agent per litre of water. 6.5 l x 4 ml/l = 26 ml. (6.5 l x 0.07 %/l = 0.455 %)
Venting DOS The DOS system will not dispense reliably if there is air in the system. The DOS system must be vented: – if the dispensing system is being used for the first time, – if the liquid cleaning agent reservoir was not refilled in time and the DOS system was emptied. – if the cleaning agent container was replaced.
To ensure that the dispensing system functions properly, prior to venting make sure that the cleaning agent container is full enough and that the dispensing lances are firmly attached to the containers. Select Start venting and press the middle button to confirm. The venting process will begin. The remaining time appears in the display. The "Pre-wash" programme is offered directly after the venting process is finished. Start the programme in order to dilute and drain any cleaning agent that escaped into the wash cabinet.
Select the desired amount of cleaning agent or dosage concentration and press the middle button to confirm.
71
