What to do: It is necessary to consult with the cochlear implant centre about which program should be used for FM. 1) 2) 3)
Turn off the speech processor, FM receiver and transmitter. Connect the red cable to the MicroLink CI S. Make sure there is size 13 battery in the CI S and it is turned on.
4)
Attach the other end of the cable into the speech processor as follows: Open the cover at the angled part of the device by first pulling back the cover and then lifting it upwards. It is now possible to insert the cable into the socket. The red dot on the cable connector should be on top. Be careful not to force the lead into the socket. When it is in the correct position, it should slide in easily. Lower the cover until it rests on the connector cable. (see below)
5) 6)
Turn the processor on. Turn the FM system on and set the MicroLink CI S gain to 3 – 3.5
Troubleshooting Have you definitely turned on the microphone? Particular care is needed with the Campus transmitter where there is a switch on the microphone itself. Using a test amplifier (eg Radio Shack speaker). Plug the CI S and receiver into the test amplifier using the blue cable. Making sure the receiver is switched to two green dots; speak through the transmitter to ensure the FM is working correctly. To check the FM system you could use the Headset Checker (Phonak part number 052-3126). Remove the receiver from the processor and plug into the headphones. Switch on the receiver and the transmitter. Listen for a clear signal.
Or check the FM using a working hearing aid and audio shoe. Plug the receiver into the audio shoe, switch on the hearing aid and then the transmitter and listen to the signal through a stetoclip.
