Mounting Hole Dimensions (inches) Figure 1 DESCRIPTION This pilot light is an oil tight transformer type unit which includes a red plastic lens. The pilot light is usually wired in a control circuit to indicate operational status of equipment.
Contents of kit, catalog number 49SALOG The pilot light kit contains a Class 52 pilot light with a legend plate and an insulation barrier (commonly referred to as fish paper) as follows:
The flange of the standard width and extra wide enclosures for Classes 17 and 18 control units contains 2 hole plugs and 1 punch mark for pilot control mounting locations. Pilot lights for Classes 17 and 18 horizontal compact and column width enclosures and for other control unit classes are mounted on the enclosure door.

INSTALLATION Check that the pilot light rating is suitable for the application. Using a unit with a rating greater than required results in ineffective pilot light performance.
Using a unit with a rating lower than required can result in lamp and transformer damage.
Mounting Hole 1. Determine pilot light mounting hole location. a. For a flange mounted pilot light, select one of the pilot control mounting locations (hole plug or punch mark). b. For a door mounted pilot light, refer to appropriate drawings or the enclosure for a suitable location. Check inside the enclosure for adequate space and the 1/2 inch air clearance noted in the warning: pilot light base dimensions (in inches) are shown in Figure 1. c. Mounting hole dimensions are shown in Figure 1. When mounting with other Class 52 pilot controls, mount on 21/4 inch minimum centers. 2. Make the mounting hole in the enclosure. a. For the Class 17 or 18 control unit remove the hole plug at the selected location. b. To cut a 17/32 inch diameter hole, use a punch, such as Greenlee Knock-out Punch number 730-S. Then use a keyway punch, such as Greenlee number 730-K or 720, to cut the keyway. The keyway should be at the top of the hole for proper alignment of the legend plate.
3. From inside the enclosure, install the operator base F through the enclosure mounting hole. For flange mounting, position the base with barrier against the enclosure wall. 4. Place legend plate C and index locking ring B on the pilot light base, engaging the tab on the index locking ring in the legend plate and mounting hole keyways. 5. Install lock nut A and tighten to 15 ft.-lbs. 6. Connect pilot light per applicable wiring diagram. Figures 2 and 3 show a typical motor controller application. LAMP REPLACEMENT Replace the lamp with one of exactly the same type and rating. Lamp number 755 is furnished with the pilot light; use the same or an equivalent lamp. To gain access to the lamp, unscrew the red lens from the lock nut A.

Mounting Pilot Light Using wrench catalog number 52MAWA or 52MAWB facilitates assembly and prevents scoring of the lock nut A, however, neither tool is required for installation. 1. Remove lock nut A, index locking ring B and legend plate C, oil seals D, and spacer E from the operator base H barrier. Place one oil seal D on the base. 2. For flange mounted pilot lights, prepare insulation barrier E. The insulation barrier is not used with door mounted pilot lights. a. The insulation barrier is furnished with a crease for bending. Bend the barrier to form a right angle as shown in Figure 1. b. Position insulation barrier E on the base F. Place the second oil seal D on the base.
