Special Note to DTV customers using a DVR with 3 streams of TV: As a reminder, due to the configuration and restrictions on bandwidth of the network, the maximum number of streams available to each customer’s home is limited, unless on fiber to the home. DVR uses a “virtual” video stream, meaning it uses or takes up a video stream when recording. This means that a household cannot exceed the maximum of THREE (3) video streams or set-top-boxes (STB) per household even when using a DVR. Therefore, it is important to understand how to work-around this challenge when recording with your DVR. This will ONLY come into play if you currently have THREE (3) TV streams and want to watch one channel and record a different channel. When you watch one channel, record a different channel and the other 2 STB’s are powered on in the home you have exceeded the maximum number (3) of video streams available, you are actually using four (4) TV streams under this illustration. If you exceed the maximum number of video streams, your DTV system will lock-up! But there is a simple solution, if you want to watch one channel and record a different channel it will be necessary to turn off one of your additional STB’s.
