Adobe Customer Story Pioneering a new genre of online entertainment. The Viral Fever creates India’s two most successful web series with Adobe Creative Cloud for teams and Adobe Premiere Pro CC. “All Creative Cloud apps work together so smoothly that it’s exciting to think what we’ll be able to do with the deeper integration that Creative Cloud offers.” Gaurav Rungta, Manager-Post Production, The Viral Fever SOLUTION Adobe Creative Cloud for teams RESULTS QUICK project turnaround with easy ingest and faster rendering FORMAT-AGNOSTIC editing without transcoding SAVED costs with scalable licensing model Sped up video post production with INTEGRATED apps Adobe Customer Story The Viral Fever Leading the web series revolution Established in 2010 Founded in 2010 by Arunabh Kumar, the idea behind The Viral Fever (TVF) was to reach out to the younger generation in India, who seldom watch television for entertainment, and provide them with new-age content on an online digital entertainment platform in the form of web series. In less than six years, TVF created India’s three most successful web series, Permanent Roommates, TVF Pitchers, and TVF Tripling, with more than 50 million views and IMDb rankings surpassing global shows such as Seinfeld and House of Cards. In addition to multiple short videos, TVF has created seven original web series that are broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, mobile apps, and on its own collaboration platform tvfplay.com. Employees: 350 Mumbai, India www.TVFPlay.com CHALLENGES • Produce great shows that keep audiences excited • Support multiple video formats in post production and integrate content from variety of cameras • Integrate visual effects with editing workflow • Reduce the turnaround time of video production Since its inception, TVF has used the Adobe video toolset to create video content, including the popular TVF Pitchers and Permanent Roommates web series. TVF started with Adobe Creative Suite and then quickly moved to Adobe Creative Cloud for teams. “We needed tools that would best suit our needs of high-quality editing and enable us to offer top-quality content,” says Gaurav Rungta, Manager Post Production, TVF. Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, provides TVF with the editing flexibility for rapidly working on projects without wasting time formatting or dealing with compatibility issues. Streamlining production workflows At TVF, the editing work typically begins with obtaining footage from the video shoots. Many times, the footage is received in multiple formats with different resolutions and must be converted to a standardized format. This footage is then synched on the timeline and visual effects and other motion graphics effects are added. Video cutting and editing is done in Adobe Premiere Pro CC while VFX, animations, and motion graphic assets are designed in Adobe After Effects CC. TVF’s editing team is particularly impressed by the ability of Premiere Pro to ingest almost any raw camera format without transcoding and then extract the footage directly on the timeline. Director of Photography, Vaibhav Bundhoo says, “It’s easy to shoot and experiment on various new cameras without worrying about inconsistency. This offers tremendous flexibility while on a shoot.” Today, TVF can shoot on the latest high-end digital cameras and simultaneously start the editing work without waiting for things to be ready to edit. “There is absolutely no need to lose days to sync issues or rendering, going through every shot and knocking it into sync,” says Sahil Verma, Editor at TVF. “With Premiere Pro CC, the footage can be directly placed on the timeline. So, it’s possible to quickly deliver high-quality work.” Adobe Customer Story The streamlined workflow of video production helped TVF during the web series production. Amit Golani, Director of TVF Pitchers and the Executive Creative Director at TVF shared his experience while working on TVF Pitchers. “The Adobe workflow is integrated, intuitive, and easy to understand,” says Golani. “Once the shoot is done, I never had to worry about anything in post production.” Meeting demand with an integrated video toolset As part of Creative Cloud, Premiere Pro and After Effects are fully integrated and help speed up the organization’s workflows. Users can edit text in After Effects compositions directly within Premiere Pro and share tracked masks and other assets between both applications using Dynamic Link. For TVF, the ability to make changes in After Effects and add them into a Premiere Pro sequence, without the need to re-transcode or render out effects in the timeline, is a big advantage and has allowed the company to create great content with tight turnarounds. “For compositing and adding animations and visual effects to a shot we use After Effects CC,” says Lengdon Phukan, Graphics/VFX Lead at TVF. “With Dynamic Link, we can work on files in Premiere Pro and After Effects simultaneously and see updates in real time. This saves us a lot of time that we would have spent manually exporting and importing clips.” “With Dynamic Link, we can work on files in Premiere Pro and After Effects simultaneously and see updates in real time. This saves us a lot of time that we would have spent manually exporting and importing clips.” Lengdon Phukan, Graphics/VFX Lead, The Viral Fever TVF also uses Adobe Audition CC for laying down tracks for voice-over recordings and other audio touch ups and Adobe Photoshop CC to look at shots in detail to make sure colors are correct. The integrated Creative Cloud applications help TVF work simultaneously on different post-production activities such as editing, graphic design, laying sound tracks, and color grading. “All Creative Cloud apps work together so smoothly that it’s exciting to think what we’ll be able to do with the deeper integration that Creative Cloud offers,” says Rungta. Sahil also appreciated the support Adobe provided along the way. “Adobe is strongly advancing its platform and we continue experimenting with multiple new features for enhancing our production workflow,” he says. Amit Kulkarni, Colorist at TVF appreciates the new features in Premiere Pro CC that his team has been using in the last few months. “With the Lumetri Color panel in Premiere Pro, we can isolate and fine-tune colors, and make subtle shade adjustments,” says Kulkarni. “Using the lightweight proxies creation feature, we are able to switch easily between high-res and low-res formats to edit on any device without overloading the system.” Adobe Customer Story SOLUTION AT A GLANCE Fast, affordable and consistent access to software • Adobe Creative Cloud for teams. Apps used include: Adopting Creative Cloud for teams proved to be an incredibly cost-effective measure for TVF. With Creative Cloud for teams, TVF can more affordably give its editing and graphic designing team access to all the latest tools, while simplifying administration and management. Adobe Creative Cloud for teams provides better value to TVF due to the regular software updates and cloud storage. • Adobe Premiere Pro CC • Adobe After Effects CC • Adobe Audition CC • Adobe Photoshop CC In the past, deploying and managing the software was a challenge. Software licenses were often purchased just in time, creating an inconsistent timetable for installation, resulting in gaps in software versions and additional work for system administrators. Adobe Creative Cloud for teams gives TVF creative staff, editors, and graphic designers instant access to new features and eliminates the need to manage software upgrades. “I think the licensing is absolutely one of the standout features of Adobe Creative Cloud for teams,” says Gaurav. “The flexible cost enables us to be more profitable while we know that everyone’s going to be on the latest versions of software.” Further enhancing the video production workflow The streamlined administration in Creative Cloud for teams has helped TVF eliminate many time-consuming manual processes, such as installing packaged software or maintaining version consistency. The increased team productivity with Creative Cloud has enabled TVF to reduce the turnaround time for video production. Adobe Creative Cloud helps support the company’s rapid growth and efficiently manage the workflow of large and complex projects. “Ultimately, making a web series is about complex problem solving and to solve complex problems you need an intuitive and user-friendly tool,” says Gaurav. “Adobe is providing tools to solve more complex problems much faster, and that helps us create better, more gripping content with fewer resources.” For more information www.adobe.com/creativecloud/business/teams.html Because of the good results achieved with Creative Cloud video apps, TVF is determined to use Creative Cloud apps, especially Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in its every venture. “We can see that Adobe is really listening to its customers to make the software even better, and we see ourselves working with Adobe even more closely in years to come,” says Gaurav. www.adobe.com/creativecloud/video/pro-videotools.html Adobe Systems Incorporated 345 Park Avenue San Jose, CA 95110-2704 USA www.adobe.com Adobe, the Adobe logo, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Creative Cloud, Creative Suite, and Photoshop are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated in the United States and/or other countries.
