Equipment is stored in zones dependent on its type, and is instantly traceable using the barcode system, which guarantees a quick and efficient dispatch process. Catering equipment is installed into portable kitchens on the Quay, a purpose built preparation and dispatch facility at PKL.

All of our technical support engineers are equipped with tablet computers. This provides an automated process that enables all technical support and preventative maintenance visits to be recorded electronically and reported straight back to our technical support centre instantly, where the details of the visit are stored electronically. Each tablet computer is also equipped with a full range of technical information about each item of our catering equipment, helping to speed up the technical support process by providing our engineers with all the information they need in one place.
As our engineers are in-house, it means that we are able to plan any visits around a time that suits you best.

PKL operates a dedicated design department with a vast amount of experience in providing both permanent and temporary kitchen facilities. We have designed and supplied hundreds of kitchens of all types over the last 20 years. Kitchen design is included as part of the monthly fee and will also include a site survey to determine any issues that will impact on the design, as well as identifying any issues that might impair delivery or installation, so these can be overcome at an early stage.

Contract Length
One of the main benefits of PKL’s KitchenFM offer is the fully inclusive service and maintenance that is provided with every contract. This covers all parts, labour and servicing costs associated with the equipment (excluding any malicious or intentional damage).
PKL will provide training sessions to ensure that all staff receive a proper induction to the items of catering equipment supplied under the contract. Additional training sessions can also be provided if there is a significantly high staff turnover or if new items of catering equipment have been added to the kitchen estate (under the KitchenFM agreement).
KitchenFM is typically offered on either a three-year or a five-year fixed length contract. However, the contract length can be tailored to meet your exact requirements.
A selection of critical spare parts is also kept on site (supplied by PKL) to help increase the chance of a first fix by our engineers should equipment break down. Where an item of catering equipment becomes unusable, PKL will provide a replacement item. As service and maintenance costs are fully inclusive within a known monthly fee, there are no unexpected costs generated by the breakdown, repair or maintenance of catering equipment, giving the end user peace of mind and allowing them to accurately budget costs associated with the kitchen facility.
Project Management
Technical support is covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
PKL provides complete project management of every KitchenFM contract, overseeing each project from inception to its handover. We also manage the service and maintenance of the kitchen once it has been commissioned and handed over.
Preventative Maintenance Visits
Installation and Commissioning Installation and commissioning will be undertaken by PKL engineers. Each item of catering equipment will be tested and commissioned before being handed over to ensure that it is safe and in full working order.

Service and Maintenance
PKL will undertake an agreed number of preventive maintenance visits per year covered by a KitchenFM contract. Preventative maintenance visits assist in reducing the risk of equipment failure, as any potential faults can be identified before they develop into anything serious and action can be taken at an early stage. This ensures that the possibility of equipment downtime is greatly reduced, while the preventive maintenance visits also give kitchen staff the chance to discuss any issues they have regarding the operation of kitchen equipment first hand with PKL catering equipment engineers.
For larger kitchens, PKL can also supply our JACK software free of charge, either on a tablet computer or supplied as a standalone unit for larger kitchens. This provides user instructions for each item of catering equipment, as well as video cleaning and troubleshooting guides. JACK also provides the ability to contact PKL directly at the touch of a button to report any service issues, or request technical assistance. Hard copies of user guides and manuals are also provided for every item of catering equipment supplied under a KitchenFM contract.
Flexibility
Buyback of Existing Estate PKL will consider the buyback of existing items of catering equipment that the client wishes to continue using or where they have recently invested in some parts of the kitchen estate. These can then be incorporated as part of the KitchenFM contract and covered by the service and maintenance agreement.
Public Sector Accreditation PKL is registered with both Crown Commercial Service and Pro-5, ensuring that we are pre-tendered to supply contracts to the public sector. In addition, due to the large amount of work we have undertaken within the education sector, we can supply engineers with the relevant checks and clearances to allow them to work at all sites.
KitchenFM provides users with the ability to upgrade equipment, ensuring that should there be a change to menu or meal take up, the kitchen estate can be modified to suit these new requirements.
Environmental Monitoring PKL is currently investigating ways in which we can implement environmental monitoring systems into both our temporary and permanent kitchen installations, and will soon be in a position to offer water metering and monitoring systems for gas and electricity usage (this is a feature that we can already offer on our permanent modular KitchenPods).

With the implementation of the CRC Carbon Efficiency scheme in April 2012, energy usage, and more importantly wastage, is becoming an ever more important factor in the operation of commercial kitchens. JACK is a simple touch-screen interface which, when sited in a kitchen, can provide constant communication between the customer, kitchen staff and the PKL technical support team. The unit comes pre-loaded with bespoke video and photo walk through guides covering training, troubleshooting and cleaning information for all of the catering equipment supplied by PKL. JACK units can be supplied in a number of languages if required, depending on the nationality of the staff working within the kitchen.

Public Sector Accreditation
PKL is ESPO/Pro 5 accredited and a Crown Commercial Service registered supplier, meaning that we have undergone a pre-accreditation process to supply temporary and modular catering facilities to the public sector.

All project managers, design managers, and operations staff are trained and work in compliance with CDM (Construction, Design and Management) Regulations.
CSCS
