By being derived from biological resources this type of thermoplastic can be biodegradable in an active compost heap, with enough presence of oxygen. It therefore has a much lesser environmental impact than thermoplastics derived from fossil fuels. PLA has low odor and is guaranteed to be free from heavy metals, phthalates or BPA. GENERAL USAGE INFO Our high quality PLA filament is recommended for beginners of 3D printing as it’s more forgiving and easier to work with as it cools & sets faster reducing warpage. PLA filament is easier to use but not as stable as ABS and will eventually dissolve if wet due to its biodegradable properties. PLA is less flexible than ABS but sharper print details can be obtained. PLA has much less tendency to warp compared to ABS, although it can still warp a little in a cold environment or on large objects. PLA can be printed both with and without a heated print bed. We strongly advise applying BuildTak pad to the build area, delivered with the printer. The rough surface of the pad provides enough adhesion for the first layer to stick and print almost without any warping. TIP! A perfect first layer is very important. Take your time leveling the bed to perfectly adjust the gap between printer nozzle and build plate. Having the nozzle set too close to the build plate will cause a pressure build up and as a back flow in most hot ends. TIP! PLA has very minimal warping tendencies, however if your printing parts which take up the maximum of your buildspace you might see some warping. If it’s very important that your part is perfectly flat, otherwise we suggest to turn down the fan that is cooling your part. This allows the material to slowly get rid of heat without warping. STORAGE Store in a dry, clean place, below 50ºC. Protect from dust. When storing your 3d Printing PLA filament for extended periods, place it in a resealable bag (ziplock) along with the included silica packet (few
grains of rice work just as well). This will keep your filament dry & free from any dust or dirt particles & moisture. PRECAUTIONS OF WORKING WITH THE PRODUCT Do not inhale vapors! Filament burning produces carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Ensure proper ventilation in the room where printer is located. Be careful when preparing the filament for printing and during work. Risk of burns through melted filament. FIRST AID MEASURES ■■ Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately. ■■ Skin contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician. Cool skin rapidly with cold water after contact with hot polymer. ■■ Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Call a physician immediately. ■■ Ingestion: Drink water as a precaution. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomiting without medical advice. Call a physician immediately.
