PNM-200/R Portable Unit for Neutron Dosimetry Description PNM-200 is the lightest portable neutron survey meter based on polyethylene sphere in the market. It measures both the neutron dose equivalent since the instrument was last powered on and the neutron dose rate equivalent. PNM-200 comes in a compact housing that features an ergonomic handle. It is self contained, needing no external device or connection to operate. PNM-200 is largely used in Nuclear Power Plants, fuel processing and spent fuel reprocessing plants, and accelerator facilities. It represents the right solution for transportation shield leakage measurements and for all measurements that must be performed in contact. PNM-200 is the instrument of choice when gamma background may impact the final neutron measurement taking its good gamma rejection into account (>1000:1). The backlight (selectable via the power switch) makes the LCD display easy to read even in dark areas. A rotary switch gives access to the following data: Internal test procedure Integration time (since powered on) ■ Integrated dose equivalent ■ Dose-rate equivalent ■ ■

PNM-200/R Portable Unit for Neutron Dosimetry DISPLAY ■ LED with intensity proportional to the irradiation level Variable lighting LCD display with one line of 16 alphanumeric characters. ■ DOSE RATE – 0.2 to 999 mrem/h in 0.2 mrem/h steps; 1 to 20 rem/h in 0.01 rem/h steps and RATE >20 rem/h beyond this limit; an arrow indicates the evolution trend: increasing or decreasing. ■ DOSE – 0.2 to 999 mrem in 0.001 mrem steps, 1 to 20 rem in 0.001 rem steps and the message DOSE >20 rem beyond this limit. ■ TIME – Hours, minutes, seconds. ACCURACY OVERALL ACCURACY – 10% under reference conditions. ■
Display of the statistical accuracy (95% probability at 2 s): “***” <4%, “**” 4 to 50%, “*” 50 to 90% and no sign beyond 90%. ■
■
NON LINEARITY – <10%.
OPERATING THREE POSITION KNOB – Off, on without lighting, on with screen lighting (intensity depending on the outer luminosity). ■ FOUR POSITION FUNCTION KNOB – Normal operation test, elapsed time from the time it has been started, integrated dose and dose rate. ■ NORMAL OPERATION TEST – On the “Test” position, high voltage plateau control of the detector for 50 s: dose rate at initial, middle and end of the plateau, calculation of the slope. ■
ELECTRICAL
TWO R14/C TYPE BATTERIES – Alkaline 1.5 V. BATTERY LIFE – 10 hours without backlight, 7 hours with backlight, battery check every two seconds with low battery indication. ■ DATA OUTPUT – RS-232 serial output: dose rate and accuracy values every 10 seconds. ■ ■
MECHANICAL
DIMENSIONS – Sphere diameter: 200 mm; overall length: 310 mm; case length: 180 mm. ■ MASS – 6.4 kg including the battery; handle and carrying belt. ■
ENVIRONMENT
TEMPERATURE/MOISTURE – –10 to +50 °C (+14 to +122 °F) in operation (drift <±10%); humidity <90% at +50 °C. ■ ENVIRONMENT – Aluminium molded case with decontaminable painting; moisture proof. ■ STANDARDS – CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission) system, in conformity with the CEI 1005 standard – good fitting of the ICRP curve. ■
