Poker Rules and information Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards of the four suits ♥, ♠, ♣ and ♦; the suits are all of the same value in deciding the game. Every suit has thirteen cards of ascending value: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, jack, queen, king and ace. The aim is to have the best combination of fi ve cards at the end of the game (the showdown) or, if the other players leave the game early, to be the last player to hold any cards. Four poker variants are played at Wiesbaden Casino: Seven Card Stud, Texas Hold‘em, Omaha Hold’em and Draw Poker. Poker can be played with a minimum of two players. The dealer manages the game. Players play for themselves and against all the others. General progress of the game 1. The dealer shuffles and cuts the cards. 2. Before the initial deal, if playing Draw and Stud Poker each player pays an agreed starting bet, the „ante“; for Texas and Omaha Hold’em only a certain number of players have to pay „blinds“. 3. Moving in a clockwise direction, the dealer deals every player a card in turn, keeping the cards face down; for Stud he also deals cards face-up. For Texas Hold‘em and Omaha Hold‘em he puts the face-up cards in the middle of the table as common cards. Following the initial deal and after each successive round there is a betting round. 4. The first betting round a) The opener, i.e. the first player to speak, has the following options: he can • pass (fold), i.e. opt out (not possible with Stud) • place a bet (must do in Stud – „Forced bet“) • raise (Texas and Omaha Hold‘em only) b) The next players clockwise have to declare, either by passing, calling (bringing the highest previously placed amount) or raise this. c) Only a player who has also matched the bets placed by all the other players in this betting round can remain in the game. The game is continued when all the players have declared, and if at least two players are left in the game at the end of the betting round. 5. Further betting rounds: From the second betting round onwards, the opener has the following options: he can either check, i.e. remain in the game without betting, bet or pass. The next players then have to declare as under 4.b), but can also check if the previous player has also checked. If at least two players remain in the game after the last betting round, then there is the ... Dealer Button (Draw, Hold‘em and Omaha only): In every game, one of the players is designated the „dealer“ and identified by the dealer button in front of him. After each game the dealer button moves clockwise around the table to the next player. This means each player assumes, in turn, the strategic advantage of being the last to speak in a round. Tax: The bank raises a fixed charge for organising the game, which is on display and taken from the pot. 6. The showdown: Moving in turn, the players still in the game turn their cards over and the dealer declares the player with the best five-card combination the winner. 7. If only one player is left in the game before the final betting round is over because all the others have passed, then this one receives the pot without having to reveal his cards. ... and the rest Table stakes: All Poker games are played with table stakes, i.e. no player can stake more money in a current game than he currently has in front of him on the table. The following rules are to be observed: 1. Before starting a game or before playing for the first time, a player must have the minimum amount he will play (minimum buy-in) in chips on the table in front of him. 2. No player may reduce his table stake during a game except for the pot. The table stake may only be increased between games, and then only to at least the amount of the current minimum buy-in. Limits: The betting amounts that a player whose turn it is may place or by which he may increase, are determined by the casino in the following limits: 1. Split limit: The amounts of the bets are set: the lower amount applies for the first betting rounds and the higher one for the last ones. Example: With a split limit of 20/40, stakes in steps of 20.- are fixed and increased in the first betting rounds and in increments of 40.- in the last betting rounds. 2. Spread limit: The amounts vary between a set minimum and a set maximum. Example: with a spread limit of 10 - 50, between 10.- and 50.- may be placed and increased in each betting round. 3. Pot limit: Bets range from a fixed minimum and the respective current amount of the pot. The amount of the pot is defined as follows: The pot consists of all the stakes placed so far, i.e. including that of a player who may then wish to raise it. 4. No limit: Bets are only limited at the bottom and not at the top, except by the table stake. The various poker versions Draw Draw is the original version of poker and is played only with hole cards; each player is given a total of five cards. After the fi rst betting round, each player may exchange up to four of his five cards (once). Playing: 1. Starting bet: Before the initial deal every player pays an Ante of the agreed limit. 2. Initial deal: As the initial deal the dealer gives every player, in turn, each of his five concealed cards, starting with the first player next to the dealer button. And now … 3. The first betting round: The player next to the dealer button is the first to speak (opener); the following players then declare in the usual manner. 4. Draw: Now the players have the option of exchanging up to four of their hole cards: Starting with the player next to the dealer button, players take it in turn to replace the cards they want to exchange over the line towards the dealer. The dealer takes these cards and now passes that player the corresponding number of cards in exchange. Once all the players have received the number of replacement cards they desired ... 5. The second (last) betting round: The first active player next to the dealer button is the first to speak. The showdown follows once all the players have spoken. Seven Card Stud Texas Hold‘em and Omaha Hold‘em Seven Card Stud is a version of open poker in which each player is given a total of seven cards; four of these are handed out face up, three face down. In order to establish the best hand at the showdown, every active player has to select the best five-card combination from his total of seven cards. Texas and Omaha Hold‘em are versions of poker that are played with common cards. In Texas, every player is given two hole cards and in Omaha four hole cards. For the rest of the game, the players are given five common cards in total (the board), placed face up in the middle of the table. To establish the best hand at the showdown, every active player has to select the best five-card combination from his hole cards and the five board cards. In Texas it does not matter whether he uses three, four or all five board cards, but in Omaha he must use two of his hole cards and three board cards. Playing: 1. Starting bet: Before the initial deal, every player pays an Ante of the agreed limit. 2. Initial deal: As the initial deal, the dealer hands each player two hole cards and one face up, starting with the player on his left. And now … 3. The first betting round: The player with the lowest value face up card (the highest with Pot and No limit) opens the game with a forced bet, i.e. he may neither check nor pass. The following players declare in the usual manner until the first betting round is complete. The dealer then hands each still active player a fourth card face up, which is followed by ... 4. The second betting round: Starting with this betting round, the player with the highest hand of open cards is the opener. Once all the players have declared, every still active player is given a fifth card face up, which is followed by ... 5. The third betting round: Once all the players have declared, every active player is given a sixth card face up, which is followed by ... 6. The fourth betting round: Once all the players have declared, every still active player is given a seventh card face down, which is followed by ... 7. The fifth (final) betting round: The showdown follows once all the players have spoken. Playing: 1. Starting bet: Before the initial deal, the first player moving clockwise from the dealer button plays the small blind, and the second player the big blind. None of the other players have to make a starting bet. 2. Initial deal: As the initial deal, the dealer gives every player in turn his hole cards, starting with the first player next to the dealer button. And now … 3. The first betting round: The player after the big blind speaks first (opener). Now all the following players must declare, including the one with the dealer button. When it is his turn, and provided he wants to stay in the game, the small blind player must play the difference between his blind and the highest bet so far. When it is the big blind player‘s turn, he has another option: if all the players have only played the amount of the big blind, he can raise it. However, the big blind player only has this option in the first betting round, and then only once. Once all the players have declared, the fi rst betting round is complete and the dealer places three cards face up in the middle of the table, known as the „Flop“. And now … 4. The second betting round: The first player after the dealer button has to speak first starting from this betting round and in all further ones. Once all the players have declared, the dealer uncovers a fourth board card, known as the „Turn“, which is followed by ... 5. The third betting round: Once all the players have declared, the dealer now uncovers the final, fi fth board card, the „River“, and this is followed by … 6. The fourth (final) betting round: The showdown follows once all the players have spoken. The house decisions are final. We will be pleased to explain the game to you on request.
