Polycom HDX setup (V0.1). N.B. The initial system password is the Serial Number (which can be found on the back of the unit). If I'm setting up the unit manually, this is normally the first thing I change as it saves a lot of remote-control typing. If you're personally doing the installation it's handy to have a laptop with you (assuming you can get your laptop onto the same LAN – apart from the HDX 6000 the HDXs have a pass-through for LAN connections on the rear). If you have a laptop it makes sense to open a text editor and type the serial number in there – useful for cutting and pasting. By default the systems are set up on DHCP. Cable system together and turn on screen (to the correct input source1) then turn on the system (the systems take a few minutes to start/restart) – there's an initial setup which automatically starts – go through this and add the sensible bits (such as language). Get the IP address from the bottom of the home screen and get to the web interface assuming you have a laptop with you. The following are the things I change from their default settings (for NHSB, NHSDG, NHSF and NHSL). System Settings System Name: Fill in Auto Answer Point to Point Calls: Yes, if appropriate (muting these is done in the Audio Settings) Numeric Keypad function: Tones (allows DTMF tones to be easily generated – useful for entry into password protected meetings) Power Button Function: Sleep or Wake Remember to press Update (top of web page) before continuing. Home Screen Setting System Name: Tick Button 1: Directory (want the end user to place as many calls through their directory entries to minimise dialling errors) Button 2: Place A Call Button 3: None (we find recent calls/last dialled numbers are all to often used by mistake) Button 4: None My SIP: Untick (may want left depending on NHS Region) My IP: Untick (once you've set up the system fully – often erroneously given instead of E164) Place a Call: Untick All (e.g. Last Number Dialled often used by mistake) Security Security Settings (you'll need to enter the password again). This is where you can change it (the Room password) – when asked for current password it'll be the serial number. Now enter the new passwords (NOTE IT DOWN). Press Update. AES Encryption: When Available. Press Update. Location Change to UK and British English if not already set You can change the type of output to the screen by pointing the remote to the camera (where the RI sensor is) and pressing and holding the Display button. 1 Date and Time Change if necessary and Update Options If you have paid for any extra options enable them here by entering the appropriate codes – please ensure all certificates are kept (do not tick to enable multi-point trial if it's an option. Multipoint confuses a great number of users – and support staff – there's no need as we have a bridging service which should be used for such calls). Software Update This should be done, if necessary, after the rest of the system is set up Network: IP Network H323 Name: Add (should be same as system name) H323 Extension: Add (in line with your existing systems) Use gatekeeper: Specify then fill in the details for Primary Gatekeeper and press Update (if your unit registers correctly you'll see the gatekeeper address with :1920 after it in the greyed out box). Maximum Transmit Bandwidth: Set as appropriate to your network Maximum Receive Bandwidth: Set as appropriate to your network. Press Update Network: Call Preference Preferred Speeds: Set as appropriate for your network Network: Network Dialling Ensure H323 is first Monitors Set as appropriate Screen Saver: 3 minutes Auto Answer Multipoint Video: No Cameras Ensure that the Source setting for Camera 2 (or whatever is set to Computer) is set to Content otherwise PC content cannot be shared. Audio Settings Mute auto Answer Calls: Tick then press Update LAN Properties For NHSL systems I leave on DHCP. Your networks will vary – change settings as appropriate. Global Services: Directory Servers Once the system has been successfully added to the National TMS these settings need changed… Polycom GDS: Tick and press Update. Fill in TMS's IP address, tick New and Register, set title for Group Name (the Phone Book Name) and press Update (try Update a couple of time until you see a large Green Tick). Global Services: SNMP Complete once system is registered to TMS. Contact Name: Booking Contact and Telephone Number Location Name: Enter Latitude and Longitude and Telephone area code here where xx.xxxxxx is the latitude, yy.yyyyyy is the longitude and nnnnn is the area code for the unit’s ISDN lines or gateway e.g. 55.930524 -3.248241 0131 Console IP Address: TMS's Now press Update (restarts system)
