PORLEX CERAMIC COFFEE MILL : Please read the instructions below thoroughly before use.
HOW TO USE
Take off the lid and fill with the amount of coffee beans you wish to grind. Replace the lid and place the handle securing on the shaft. Turn the handle clockwise while holding the body tightly until you feel no loading at all. Coffee grinds are found in the cup at the bottom of the grinder.
Note : It is easier to remove the lid or the storage cup by gently twisting in either direction. The same is true for putting them back together.
To adjust the grind for coarse or fine, simply turn the adjusting wheel clockwise for fine grinds and counter-clockwise for coarse grinds.
Note: If the adjusting wheel is tightened too much, the ceramic blades may get stuck preventing the handle from turning. If this happens, the wheel must be turned back to the point where the handle can be turned. This point is considered the finest grinds setting.
When removing the adjusting wheel out of the shaft, the ceramic blades may be removed as well. This should be done when washing the grinder completely.
CAUTION Make sure coffee beans are dry and free of any foreign matter.
If during the grinding any unusual resistance or sound is encountered, stop turning the handle immediately. It may be necessary to remove everything from the body to check and/remove any foreign matter.
Roasted coffee beans are best for grinding. If unroasted coffee beans need to be ground, double-check for foreign matter.
Roasted nuts and beans can be ground as well, but do not grind anything which contains too much oil as it will become sticky and impair the grinding process.
When the grinder has not been used for quite some time, it is suggested to wash it and remove residue with a soft-brush (i.e., a toothbrush), particularly when washing the ceramic blades. Make sure that special care is paid when handling ceramic blades as they are breakable. Make sure the grinder is completely dry before using it again.
Do not turn the handle if the grinder is empty, especially after adjusting the wheel as this could damage the ceramic blades.
If the grinder has been damaged by grinding a stone or something very hard (or if has been dropped on the floor), stop using it immediately.
RE-SETTING CERAMIC BLADES TO A GRINDER When re-setting ceramic blades inside the grinder, please follow these steps:
-
Ensure that the 3 recesses on the outside of the female blade are clean & free of any residue.
-
The 3 recesses must be fitted on the 3 projections inside the bottom part of the body. Make sure it sits completely flat and will not
turn.
-
The male blade fixed on the cone base is inserted onto the shaft.
-
The adjusting wheel must be inserted on the shaft and fastened until it touches the female blade lightly. This position is considered to
be at fine grinding grade.
ADJUSTING WHEEL FOR COARSE TO FINE GRADE Coffee grinds could cause trouble in setting the wheel appropriately. Ensure that no coffee grinds are lodged in any part of the grinding mechanism.
When relaxing the adjusting wheel too much for coarse grade grinding, it could slip out of the shaft during grinding, along with the ceramic blades. If this happens, stop turning the handle and re-set them as per the above steps. Make sure the wheel is inserted onto the shaft from the correct side.
