Close all doors and windows in the area. The unit is most effective in an enclosed space. 3. Plug the unit into a 120-volt power source. Off Auto defrost On Fan 3 4 11 Timer 5 6 1. Filter button: The Filter light illuminates after 250 hours of operation as a reminder that the filter needs to be cleaned. To reset this function after cleaning the filter, press the Filter button. 2. Cont. button: Press to activate the continuous dehumidifying mode. 3. Fan button: Press to select the Normal or Turbo fan speed. 4. Power button: Press to turn the unit ON and OFF. 5. Timer button: Press to program auto-ON and auto-OFF times. 6. Up and Down (+ and -) buttons: Press to raise and lower the set humidity level within the range of 35 to 85 percent relative humidity (RH) in 5 percent increments, or use to adjust the timer settings. 7. LED display: Displays the set humidity level or timer settings while settings are being adjusted. Displays the ambient humidity level from 30 to 90 percent RH with an accuracy of ±5 percent. 8. Filter light: Indicates that the filter needs to be cleaned. 9. Full light: Indicates that the water tank is full, removed from the unit or incorrectly positioned. 10. Cont. light: Indicates that the continuous dehumidifying mode is active. 11. ON and OFF lights: Indicate that the timer-ON and timer-OFF settings are active. 12. Turbo and Normal lights: Indicate the fan speed. 13. Auto defrost light: Indicates that the unit is defrosting. Operating Instructions Programming the Timer 1. To set the auto-OFF time, press the Timer button until the Off light illuminates. 2. Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust the timer setting in half-hour increments up to 10 hours and hour increments up to 24 hours. 3. To set the auto-ON time, press the Timer button until the On light illuminates. 4. Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust the timer setting. 5. Wait five seconds for the unit to accept the setting. Continuous Mode Press the Cont. button to constantly run the dehumidifier. The humidity level cannot be manually set when the unit is operating in continuous mode. 3 Operating Instructions Emptying the Water Tank When the water tank is full, the unit beeps eight times, the Full light blinks and the display reads “P2.” If the unit is ON, the compressor turns OFF and the fan runs for 30 seconds to dry the condenser. 1. Grip the handles on the sides of the tank and slowly pull the tank out of the unit. Do not place the tank on the floor as its uneven bottom may cause it to spill. 2. Empty the tank and carefully replace it in the unit. Continuous Drainage To continuously drain water from the unit, 1. Remove the water tank and the cover from the drain hose outlet on the back of the unit. 2. Attach the provided drain hose to the drain hose adapter. 3. Insert the opposite end of the drain hose through the drain hose outlet and attach it to the connector at the front right of the unit. Ensure the drain hose fits securely to the connector. 4. Use the provided screws to secure the drain hose adapter to the unit. 5. Thread the female end of a garden hose [or other hose (5 /16 -inch-ID or greater) with garden hose thread, not included] onto the unit’s drain hose outlet. Ensure the hose is securely attached to the outlet. 6. Direct the other hose end to a floor drain or other suitable disposal area. For proper drainage, the entire length of the hose must be positioned lower than the drain hose outlet. 7. Remove the drain hose from the outlet and replace the outlet cover when the continuous drain function is not in use. Auto-Shutoff The unit will turn off 30 seconds after the water tank reaches capacity. The unit will also turn off automatically when the set humidity level is reached. Auto-Defrost When frost accumulates on the evaporator coils, the compressor will turn off and the fan will continue to run until the evaporator coils defrost. Auto-Restart After a power interruption, this unit will restart automatically using the previously programmed settings. To protect the unit, the compressor will not restart until three minutes after shutting down. Storage and Maintenance Cleaning the Air Filter For optimal operation, clean the air filter every two weeks. With the unit powered OFF, 1. Slide the air filter out from the top of the unit. 2. Rinse the filter in warm water. 3. Allow the filter to dry completely before replacing it in the unit. Cleaning the Unit With the unit powered OFF, • Use a soft cloth dampened with water and mild detergent. • Use a vacuum or brush to clean the air intake and outlet grilles. • Clean the tank with water and mild detergent every few weeks to prevent the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria. Do not put the tank in the dishwasher. Storing the Unit 1. Wait one day after turning OFF the unit before emptying the water tank. 2. Clean the unit, water tank and air filter. 3. Wrap the power cord and secure it to the back of the unit. 4. Cover the unit with a plastic bag. 5. Store the unit upright in a dry, well-ventilated area. 4 Error Codes Error Codes The following error codes may appear on the unit’s display panel. Error Code Cause Solution AS Humidity sensor error ES Temperature sensor error Disconnect the unit from the power source and reconnect it. If the problem persists, the unit may require service. See warranty information. P2 Water tank is full or incorrectly positioned Empty the tank and ensure it is correctly positioned. EC Unit error Ensure the ambient temperature is between 41ºF and 95ºF. If the problem persists, the unit may require service. See warranty information. Troubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Unit is not running. • Unit has reached its preset level. • Water tank is full. • Circuit breaker tripped. • Unit is unplugged. • Empty water tank and reinstall in unit; ensure tank is seated properly. • Reset circuit breaker; do not plug other devices into the same outlet as the dehumidifier. • Ensure unit is fully plugged into power source. Unit is not removing enough moisture from the air. • Unit must operate longer. • An object is obstructing the air intake. • The humidity control is not set low enough. • Doors or windows are open. • Room temperature is too low. • There is a source of excessive water vapor such as a kerosene heater in the room. • Allow unit more time to operate. • Move any objects, including curtains or furniture, away from the unit. • Set the unit at a lower humidity level. • Ensure all doors and windows are securely closed. • Raise room temperature above 41°F. • Remove the device creating excessive water vapor. Noisy operation • The air filter is clogged. • The unit is tilted instead of upright. • The floor surface is not level. • Remove and wash the air filter. • Ensure the unit is on a level surface and is sitting upright. • Move the unit to a level surface. Frost appears on the coils. • Normal operation • The unit has an auto-defrost feature which will activate until frost disappears. Water on floor • Hose drain outlet cover is loose or missing. • Replace or tighten outlet cover. • Hose connection is loose when using • Ensure hose connection is tight continuous drain mode. and free of leaks. 5 Utopian Systems Limited Warranty Utopian Systems Portable Dehumidifier Limited Warranty What This Warranty Covers This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, with the exceptions stated below. Who This Warranty Covers This warranty applies to the original purchaser of this Utopian Systems product with the original proof of purchase. How Long Warranty Coverage Lasts This warranty is in effect for a period of one year from the original date of purchase. What This Warranty Does Not Cover This warranty does not cover damage or defects resulting from the improper installation, alteration, abuse, accidental damage, unauthorized repair or misuse of this product. Misuse includes but is not limited to outdoor use. This warranty does not apply to cosmetic defects or other defects that do not affect the functionality of the product, and is void if the product has been damaged as a result of fire, flood, or other natural disaster. Sunleaves Garden Products (“Sunleaves”) shall not be responsible for any incidental or consequential damages of any nature, including damage or injury caused to other products, machinery, buildings or property; loss of profits, time or product; or inconvenience. The original proof of purchase MUST accompany the Utopian Systems product for this warranty to be valid. This warranty is given in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including without limitation merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental and consequential damages, or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation(s) may not apply to you. What Sunleaves Will Do If Sunleaves determines the warranted product is defective in materials or workmanship during the warranty period, then Sunleaves, at its option, will either repair or replace the product.
