GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION 2 When using the vacuum cleaner, basic safety precautions should always be observed, including the following: 1. Only use the vacuum cleaner indoors on dry surfaces. Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands. Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces. 2. Turn off the vacuum cleaner controls before disconnecting or connecting from the mains supply. 3. Always unplug the vacuum cleaner before connecting or disconnecting the vacuum hose and accessories. 4. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision. 5. Use only as described in this manual. Use only Hoover recommended attachments. 6. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water. 7. Do not pull or carry by cord. Do not use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces. 8. Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use with any openings blocked and do not restrict airflow. Keep all openings free of dust, lint, hair or anything that might reduce airflow. 9. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts. 10. Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts, matches or any hot, smoking or burning objects. 11. Do not pick up flammable or combustible materials (lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene etc.) or use in the presence of explosive liquids or vapours. 12. Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic materials (chlorine, bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner etc.). 13. Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc. 14. Do not use without ALL of the filters in place. 15. Take extra care when vacuuming on stairs. 16. Keep vacuuming area well lit. 17. Store the vacuum cleaner in a cool, dry area. 18. Turn off the on/off switch before unplugging the vacuum cleaner 19. Do not use the vacuum cleaner with a damaged cord or plug. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. 20. Plug must be removed from the socket-outlet before cleaning or maintaining the appliance. WARNING: Always switch off and unplug the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet before assembling, opening or emptying the dirt container, or before connecting/disconnecting the attachments. CAUTION: The vacuum cleaner is a very powerful unit. Before plugging the cord into the electrical outlet, make sure the switch is in the ‘off’ position. IMPORTANT: If the inlet, hose or telescopic tube is blocked, switch off the vacuum cleaner and remove the blockage(s) before re-starting the vacuum cleaner. See Maintenance: Clearing blockages. IMPORTANT: Washing filters maintains vacuum performance. Hoover recommends that they should be checked and cleaned periodically (depending on the level of use). Make sure all filters are completely dry before inserting back into the vacuum cleaner. IMPORTANT: The motor is equipped with a thermal cut-out. If for any reason the unit should overheat, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Should this occur, unplug the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet and turn off the switch. Remove dirt container and empty. Clean filters. Allow the unit to cool for approximately one (1) hour. To re-start, plug into an electrical outlet and switch back on. This vacuum cleaner is intended for household use only and NOT for commercial or industrial use. PLEASE KEEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR FURTHER USE.
3 OPERATION PLEASE READ ‘GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION’ AT THE BEGINNING BEFORE USE IMPORTANT: The condition of the filters affects the performance of your machine. For best cleaning results filters require cleaning at least every 3 months. For full cleaning instructions, see page 7 IMPORTANT: Do not use the vacuum cleaner without all of the filters in place. IMPORTANT: Do not use the vacuum cleaner without a bag. Assembling your Vacuum Cleaner CAUTION: This vacuum cleaner is not free standing. In between uses or when carrying out any maintenance always lie flat on the floor in a suitable location so it does not become a trip hazard or can be stepped on.
Push the hose into the inlet until it clicks.
Connect the telescopic tube to the hose and ensure it is fixed firmly into place. Adjust the height to your requirements.
For use on carpet click rocker switch forward. For use on hard floor click rocker switch back. NOTE: The Turbobrush, hard floor tool, crevice tool, upholstery tool and dusting brush can all be attached directly to the telescopic tube or hose handle. The TurboTool should first be attached to the supplied connector before fitting onto the hose handle.
OPERATION 4 Turning the machine on and off NOTE: Fully unwind the power cord. A yellow mark on the cord indicates the recommended cord length. Do not exceed the cord length beyond the yellow mark.
Unwind the power cord and plug it into the socket. Turn the machine on.
Suction can also be controlled by adjusting the air flow button on the handgrip. Close for maximum suction, open for reduced suction.
To adjust the suction power slide the variable power control button. For example, maximum suction can be used for cleaning carpets or hard floors, and reduced suction for cleaning upholstery and curtains.
5 OPERATION Storage
For your convenience, the unit has an onboard tool storage compartment. Press the tool storage release button to open.
Hose, telescopic tube and floor head can be stored in stored in an assembled condition to the cleaner. Coil the hose around the telescopic tube to make it compact and stable. Attach the hose to the parking slot at the bottom or back of the unit.
OPERATION 6 Emptying the dust bag IMPORTANT: Bag Change indicator light will appear if the bag is full. Please empty or replace the bag, otherwise it will reduce the vacuum cleaner performance. IMPORTANT: Never use the appliance without having inserted a dust filter bag. Otherwise the appliance might be damaged.
To remove the bag, press cover release button to open the compartment. Pull the dust bag assembly away from the unit.
Slide the clip off the end to open and empty bag into the bin. To close, slide the clip back on. Fit the bag back into the machine and close the cover.
Holding the plastic assembly, gently slide the dust bag out.
7 OPERATION Cleaning filters IMPORTANT: To ensure best suction power, please clean the filter after each use. IMPORTANT: Do not use detergents to clean the filters. Filters must be thoroughly dry before the machine is used.
HEPA filter is located behind the exhaust grill. To remove it, press cover release button to open the compartment and pull the filter out by the handle.
Rinse filters under a warm running water.
Pre motor filter is located under the dust bag. To remove it, press cover release button to open the compartment and pull the filter out
OPERATION 8 Clearing Blockages IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of electric shock, the power cord must be disconnected before performing maintenance/troubleshooting checks. Turn the vacuum cleaner off and unplug from the electrical socket. HOSE BLOCKAGES The flexible hose may be disconnected from the vacuum cleaner. Carefully remove any blockages found and reconnect the hose securely. ACCESSORY BLOCKAGES Remove accessory from the hose/telescopic tube. Carefully remove the blockage and return to the cleaner.
9 MAINTENANCE SECTION Why does the dust filter bag change indicator appears in the window? • The dust filter bag is full. Change the dust filter bag. See ‘Maintenance: Emptying the dust bag’ section Is there an accessory missing? • Check the ‘machine Overview’ page in this guide to make sure the part is definitely included in your unit. • If it is missing, we’re here to help. Visit Hoover.za.com Why won’t the vacuum cleaner pick up? • The filter may be clogged; refer to ‘Maintenance: Cleaning the filters.’ • The dust bag may be full; refer to ‘Maintenance: Emptying the dust bag’ • There may be a blockage in the hose/tube; disconnect from the vacuum cleaner. Carefully remove any blockages found and reconnect securely. Why is dust escaping from the vacuum? • The filter may be clogged; refer to ‘Maintenance: Cleaning the filters.’ • The dirt container may be blocked; refer to ‘Maintenance: Emptying and cleaning the dirt container.’ • The dust bag may be incorrectly installed; remove the dust bag from the unit and then re-attach it, ensuring it is locked firmly back into place. What do I do if the unit/an accessory becomes damaged or broken? • We’re here to help. Carefully remove any blockages found and reconnect hose securely. • Accessory blockages: remove accessory from handle/tube. Why will the vacuum cleaner not run? • It may not be plugged into the electrical outlet correctly; ensure that the plug is pushed in securely. • The electrical outlet may not be working properly; check the fuse or breaker, or consult an electrician. • The motor thermostat may have tripped; switch off and unplug the vacuum cleaner, and leave for one hour before switching the cleaner back on.
